James A. Nicholson

James A. Nicholson, 80, Stone Circle, Watertown and Bonita Springs, FL, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017, at the Frances Georgeson Hospice House in Naples, FL.

Jim was born on October 31, 1937, in Watertown, son of Maitland J. and Dorothy Allen Nicholson. He graduated from Watertown High School and Canton ATC with a degree in business. Jim served in the United States Army. On November 4, 1961, he married Ellen J. Bastian at Holy Family Church with Reverend John Pendergast officiating. Ellen died December 25, 2004.

Jim owned and operated CR Allen Office Products, a family owned office supply company that had been in business in Watertown since the early 1900’s, where he worked with his wife, Ellen, son, Robert Nicholson and daughter in law, Kathy. Robert took over the company in the mid 1990’s. The Nicholson and Allen families have deep roots in the Watertown community. Jim continued this strong connection with his participation in many city organizations. He was a member of the Watertown Rotary Club for many years and was president from 1990 to 1991. Jim played an instrumental role in the development of Bicentennial Park located next to The Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds. Jim sat on the Board of Directors for Mercy Hospital during the 1990’s. He was a member of the Crescent Yacht Club for many years and was a member of The Black River Valley Club. Jim was an avid private pilot and enjoyed the friendships he formed with his airport buddies. He was a member of the Watertown Flying Club, a local experimental aircraft club, where he was a key member of the team that rebuilt a 1941 J5 Piper Cub over the period of 13 years. Jim enjoyed his summers with his family in Chaumont Bay on Lake Ontario where he and his wife had a cottage next door to his parents and sister, Jean. He loved being outdoors, going boating and fishing and especially enjoyed when his grandchildren came to visit him at the lake. Jim had a knack for fixing just about anything and even had a number of inventions including a self-dialing telephone device. Those who knew Jim enjoyed his quick wit, sense of humor and ability to pull off practical jokes. Jim enjoyed his later years with his companion Kay Woodruff, spending summers on the St. Lawrence River and winters in Bonita Springs, Florida. Jim and Kay volunteered at Bargain Box Thrift Store in Naples, Florida where Jim was affectionately known as “Bargain Box Jim”. Jim will be remembered for his deep love of family, friends, the CR Allen team and the Watertown community.

Jim is survived by his companion Kay Woodruff, a son, Robert (Kathy) Nicholson, Brownville, NY, a daughter, Katherine (Chris) Masi, Trumbull, CT, a sister, Jean Lawton, Watertown, five grandchildren, Shawn Nicholson and his fiancé Alisha Markanich, Andrew Nicholson, Chris Masi, Libby Masi and Josh Masi, and many nieces and nephews. Kay’s family, which were very close to Jim, her son, Bruce (Kelly) Woodruff, a daughter, Rebecca (Wells) Patterson, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Friday, December 29th from 4pm – 7pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 30th at 11 am at Emmanuel Congregational Church. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in the spring with military honors. William Walter Arthur

William Walter Arthur of Adams, NY, passed away on December 24, 2017 at his home.

Born at St. Luke’s Hospital in Utica, New York on April 15, 1935 to Beatrice (Walter) and Hubert Arthur. He attended West Canada Valley High School and graduated in 1952 and went on to get his Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education and Health from Cortland in 1956. He went on to complete graduate work for Director Certificate at the State Universities of Potsdam and Oswego. He married Bonnie Buchanan on August 1, 1959 at the Rodman Congregational Church with the Rev. John Wetzell officiating.

He was a United States Air Force veteran. He enlisted April 23, 1957 and was deployed in 1961 with the Air National Guard at Hancock Field in Syracuse, New York where he served as a medic. He was deployed for 12 months serving in aero-medical evacuation flying mainly on C-35’s. He was discharged as a Sgt. First Class and received an honorable discharge in August 1962.

He started his first job in Adams Center in 1956. From there he followed through at Adams Center/Adams and retired from South Jefferson Central School in 1991 to complete a 35 year career. During his teaching years he also coached football (1 year), cross country, boys and girls basketball (35 years), baseball and track and field (35 years). He was affectionately known as “Coach” and believed if you found a job you like you’ll never have to work the rest of your life. In his coaching career he produced the first ever South Jeff championship team in cross country while having numerous runners qualify for sectional and state competition. In track and field he sent 43 athletes to the state meet which included one state champion. All that time he served on just about every Section III Committee with the longest one being 17 years on the track and field committee. His greatest accomplishment was the success of the students he taught and the athletes he coached.

During the summers he worked for the New York State Parks at Cedar Point, Westcott’s and Southwick’s Beach.

The family lived in Adams Center for a while before moving to their home on Church Street in Adams. He is survived by his wife Bonnie of 58 years; children Vicki (Tim) Phillips, Watertown, Robert (Justine) Arthur, LeRoy, Penny (Brian) Clark, Adams, Barbara Arthur (companion Doug) Smithville, Lisa (David) Ferrell, Virginia and Bill (Carin) Arthur, South Carolina. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Robert who died in infancy along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed many activities including golf, bowling, pitching softball (almost 40 years), riding his motorcycle and feeding his birds. He was an avid fan of Syracuse sports and the New York Yankees. Coach Arthur was a fixture at many local sporting events. Most of all he enjoyed watching and cheering for his own children and grandchildren all of whom he was very proud.

A Celebration of Life Program will be held at the South Jefferson Central High School gym, on Friday, December 29th beginning at 1:00 sharp.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Henry Coffeen Scholarship fund at South Jefferson School or the South Jeff Rescue Squad.

Dennis G. Whelpley

Dennis G. Whelpley, 61, of Sackets Harbor, was called unexpectedly to the Lord on December 20, 2017.

Dennis was born on February 29, 1956 to Robert and Agatha Whelpley in Wellsville, NY. Dennis was a star theatrical performer in high school who remained an entertainer for his entire life.

After attending Alfred University, he received his J.D. from Albany Law School and then served his country in the office of Judge Advocate General’s Corp, in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and at Ft. Drum. He then moved to private practice first at Lewis, Bell and Niles in Plattsburgh NY before settling in the Watertown area. He was proud to have worked with many talented attorneys at Bond, Schoeneck &King, Schwerzmann & Wise and most recently with Conboy, Mckay, Bachman & Kendall.

In August of 1978, Dennis married Deborah Peangatelli, who survives. Dennis and Debby have lived on Black River Bay outside Sackets Harbor for almost thirty years. They loved the lake in all seasons with duck hunting, their dogs and beautiful gardens to fill their free time. Dennis was very proud of the historical role his homestead played in the War of 1812 and the artifacts that were discovered there.

Dennis was predeceased by his father, Robert J. Whelpley and a brother David Whelpley. He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Deborah, his mother, Agatha Whelpley, brother, Robert (Joan) Whelpley, brother, John (Karen) Whelpley, sister, Janet Whelpley and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 9am until 11am on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. Robert J. Kelly

Robert J. Kelly, Jr., 58, of Stone Street, Watertown, died December 19, 2017, at his home after a difficult and well fought battle against ALS.

Bob was born on July 2, 1959, in Watertown, son of Robert J and Dorothy H. (Jobson) Kelly Sr. From 1979 until 1983 he served in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge. On April 17, 1994 he married Judee K. Wiertalla in Brownville, NY. Bob worked most of his adult life as a skilled flooring and carpet installer, earning respect in his chosen field for over 35 years. Bob loved his family, his friends, and all animals- especially his dogs. He enjoyed listening to music, playing billiards, telling jokes, fishing, and many outdoor activities.

Surviving besides his wife Judee are a daughter Laura Rachel (Keith) Baughman, Canandaigua, three grandchildren Megan, Jasmine, and Cameron, three brothers Terry (Gayelynn) Babyak, Dexter, Allen (Andria) Capone, Watertown, Matthew (Becky) Capone, Watertown, three sisters Stacey (Paul) Mack, Watertown, and their daughter, Bob’s first born niece, Michelle Kelly, Catherine Cunningham, Watertown, Julie Capone, Watertown, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Bob’s family will be holding a private graveside ceremony at a later date. Arrangements are with the

Eileen C. French

Massena: Eileen C. French, 87 of St. Regis Nursing Home and formerly of LBSH of Brasher Falls, NY, passed away on Dec. 23, 2017 at St. Regis Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Friends and family may be received on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 from 3:00 P.M. until the time of funeral services at 7:00 P.M. at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family in the spring.

Eileen was born on May 25, 1930 in Norfolk the daughter of James and Julianne (Christain) Brothers. She attended local schools and married Melvin French on Nov. 29, 1947 he predeceased her on April 27, 1993.

She enjoyed snowmobiling, camping and loved to garden, play bingo, and visit the casino were her luck seemed to be in her favor. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Brasher.

Eileen is survived by her daughter, Karen and Allen Rush of Massena, and a son Bruce and Kathy French of Fort Wayne, IN. Nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Gary French and two brothers, Herbert, Nelson Brothers, and sisters, Roberta Warner, Beatrice Olmstead, Eunice Stevens, Jean Beauliea, Barbara Doxetator, Eva Murry.

MASSENA—A Mass of Christian Burial for 70 year old Virginal D. McGregor, a resident of 35 Taylor Ave and formerly of Norwood, will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Church in Norwood with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding. Burial will be held in the spring in the Calvary Cemetery, Massena. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Mr. McGregor passed away late Saturday evening, December 23, 2017.

Virginal is survived by his two daughters, Mary Lynn and Bernard Sharlow, Norwood; Anne Jones, Massena; his three beloved grandchildren, Zachary McGregor; Britney and Travis Burns and Kali Sharlow; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Elaine McGregor, Norfolk and a half sister, Linda Geandrew, Potsdam. Virginal was pre-deceased by his wife Mary and two brothers, Carlton and Paul McGregor.

Born in Potsdam, NY on December 22, 1947 to the late Bernard and Margaritte Geandrew McGregor, Virginal graduated from High School and entered the U.S. Navy and served as a Seebee in Vietnam from 1965-1968. He married Mary Murray on January 31, 1967. Mary passed away in 2004. Virginal worked as a machine operator and mechanic at Elliott’s Lumber in Potsdam for many years. He was a member of the Norfolk American Legion Post 925 and enjoyed making an occasional trip to the casino, scratching off lotto tickets, watching gameshows and fishing. Robert D. Selleck Sr.

COLTON— Memorial Services for 84 year old Robert D. Selleck Sr., will be held in the springtime. Robert passed away on Saturday evening, December 23, 2017 at the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg. Born in Potsdam, NY on January 4, 1933 to the late William and Nano Gilmore Selleck, Robert graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School in 1951 and served with the U.S. Army in Korea as an electrician. Upon his return home, he worked at ALCOA in Massena for a few years and then worked in the carpentry industry until his retirement. Robert was a member of the Colton Amvets and was a past member of the Colton Fire Department and enjoyed playing softball and thoroughly enjoyed the company of his friends, especially at the Amvets.

Robert is survived by his five children, Wendy (Stephen) Stowe; Robin (Cory) Moore; Penny (Phil) Poste; Robert (Shane) Selleck, Jr.; Jacqueline (Tony) Aumiller; his ten grandchildren, Jennifer, MacKenzie, Hayley, Betsey, Heidi, Kimberly, PJ, Jack, Arielle, and Holly. Robert is also survived by one brother, Dale (Janet) Fisher; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, a sister, Alene McCarthy and his brothers William Selleck, Donald Fisher and Michael Fisher. Anna P. Carhart

Anna P. Carhart passed away peacefully on December 25th at Hospice of Jefferson County with family at her side.

She was born in Syracuse, NY on January 9, 1932, the daughter of William and Sybil Porter. She was united in marriage to Donald J. Carhart on June 30, 1951 in Fayetteville, NY. Donald passed away in 2013 after 61 years of marriage.

She made a home for her family in several different places, including Fayetteville and Voorheesville NY, as Donald moved for his work with Conrail. She was dedicated homemaker, who loved cooking and baking for her family. After the death of her husband, she moved to Watertown, NY where she was a resident of Ives Hill Retirement Community. She enjoyed being a part of the senior community, taking care of their library and spending time with her family, including her great grandchildren.

She is survived by their 5 children and spouses, Deborah (Ross Devendorf), James (Mary), Mary Savaria (Art), Ann Sutton (Richard) and Susan; their grandchildren, Patrick Ryan (Erin), Kelly Ryan (Wayne), Stephanie Sutton, Matthew (Sarah) Carhart, Sara (Brian) Helmes, Heather Savaria (Rich Koonz), Chris Sutton, Andrew Carhart and Chelsea Sutton; and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ashlynn, Colin, Lucy, Charlie, Keegan, Connell and Elijah; 3 sisters Helen Driscoll, Verna (Ronnie) Solomon, Betty Geary and sister-in-law Beverly Porter. She was predeceased by her grandson, Ryan Savaria; and her sister Katherine Taylor and brother William Porter.

Gordon Bailey

H. Gordon Bailey passed away at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 24, 2017, at the age of 88. He was born on September 7, 1929 in Binghamton, NY to the late Eugene Bailey and Christine Belleville Bailey.

He was a life long farmer, worked on the railroad in Syracuse, had his own refrigeration and air conditioning business, and was a refrigeration and air conditioning instructor at Watertown Correctional Facility, retiring in 1995. He was active with Jefferson County Board of Elections, running voting machines.

Gordon was a life long resident of Eastline Road in Clayton, NY. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His passion was tending to his cows on his farm.

He is predeceased in death by his wife, Marilyn, on February 22, 1994; his son David who died in infancy; his brother Joseph in infancy; his sister Jeanne Marie Moore of California; his sister Sylvia Cory of Texas; his brother Richard Bailey of Schoharie, NY; his brother Bruce Bailey of Cape Vincent, NY; his sister Armelia Halsmaier of California; and his sister Sr. Christine Helen Capalbo of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Watertown, NY.

He is survived by his children, Gordon M. (Shirley) Bailey of Clayton, NY and Mary C. (Sam) Scudera of Clayton, NY. Also surviving, his brother Emmanuel Bailey of Saranac Lake, NY; sister Patricia (John) Doldo of Watertown, NY; brother Peter Bailey of Watertown, NY; five grandchildren, Shannon (Dawn) Scudera, Jenny (David) Scudder, MaryRose (James) Smith, Amanda Patchin and companion, Scott Hanson, and Sam (Rachel) Scudera; eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Thursday, December 28, from 4 - 7PM. A prayer service will be at the funeral home on Friday, December 29, at 10:15AM followed by the funeral mass celebrated at St. Mary’s Church at 11AM with Rev. Arthur J. LaBaff, pastor, presiding. Private burial will be in the spring at the family’s convenience in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Dante R. Morgia

Dante R. Morgia, 80, of Watertown passed away Christmas morning 2017 at Hospice of Jefferson County. Dante spent his last days surrounded by his nieces and nephews who loved him so much and by the extremely caring individuals at Hospice.

Dante was born in Watertown on June 28, 1937, son of Costantino “Gus” and Teresa Pietropaoli Morgia. He graduated from Watertown High School and a marriage to Clorinda Roselli ended in divorce.

He owned and operated Dante’s Restaurant on Court St. and Dante’s Pizza through 1984, and the Park Circle Deli into the 1990’s. After his retirement, Dante filled his time assisting at both the Italian American Club and Elks Lodge 496, both of which he was a member, and also at Ives Hill Country Club. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Hoffman, Quakertown, PA; three grandsons, Michael, Matthew, and Connor Hoffman; sister-in-law, M. Jane Morgia, Watertown; five nieces, Paula O’Donnell and husband, Daniel, Jane Morgia, Jacqueline Derrigo and husband, Cary, Pam Canale, and Mary Hughes and husband, Robert; two nephews, Richard Canale and John Morgia and wife, Shelby; and several great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, John A. Morgia, September 23, 2010, and two sisters, Irma J. Pacific, March 3, 2010, and Philomena C. Canale, January 16, 2017.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Friday, December 29, from 4 - 7PM. A prayer service will be at the funeral home on Saturday, December 30, at 10:15AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated at 11AM at St. Anthony’s Church with Msgr. Robert Aucoin, pastor, presiding. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Funeral services for Winifred L. Spaman, age 90, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 10:00AM at Notre Dame Church. Interment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park following funeral services. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mrs. Spaman passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2017, at Riverledge Nursing Home.

Winifred is survived by two daughters; Terry Cougler of Heuvelton, NY and Deborah Bixby of Ogdensburg, NY; and four grandchildren; Christopher Cougler, Tara Kroeger and her husband, James, Alyson Bixby, and Andrew Bixby II and his wife, Coleen. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Natalie, and Lily Kroeger, Gina Kelley and Bennett Bixby. Winifred is predeceased by a son-in-law, Robert Cougler, a son-in-law, Andrew Bixby and a sister, Beverly Graveline.

Winifred was born on April 1, 1927, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of Frank and and Mabel McCollum Graveline. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1946. Winifred married Chester E. Spaman at Notre Dame Church on July 17, 1948, with Monseigneur A.D. Charbonneau officiating. They were happily married for sixty-six years. Chester predeceased her on September 4, 2014. Winifred first went to work at A&P Grocery Store and later retired from St. Joseph’s Home in the Housekeeping Department.

Winifred enjoyed skating, going to the casino and shopping. Most of all, Winifred loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Maxine (Mickey) B Williams

Maxine (Mickey) B Williams (98), of Howe Blvd., Canton, retired editor journalist, died December 24, 2017, with family by her side.

Mickey was born Maxine Ella Bradt on August 25, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry Peter and Jewel Wolfgang Bradt. In 1921 the family moved to Sherburn, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Sherburn High School in 1936 and then moved to New York City where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Barnard College in 1940.

Following college she had a brief singing career with a women’s trio, The Symphonettes, and with the Lyn Murray Chorus on CBS Radio in New York City. At the time of her marriage she was employed in the trust accounting department of Central Hanover Bank and Trust Co. on Wall Street, New York City.

Mickey married J. Robert Williams (Bob), of Prospect, NY, on Sept. 13, 1942 at the Church of the Ascension, Fifth Ave., New York City. Mr. Williams died in 2001. Her husband, a second lieutenant with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II, moved to several assignments. The couple lived for short periods in Columbia, SC; Carthage, MO; Green Cove Springs, FL; and Nashville. TN.

Upon his discharge from the service, her husband was employed as a reporter for the Watertown Daily Times (NY), during which time the family lived in Canton, NY, and in Sacketts Harbor, NY. Mr. Williams then worked in Public Relations at St. Lawrence University. In 1956 the family to moved to Trumansburg, NY, where he was employed at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. In 1958 they moved to Oberlin, Ohio, where he was Executive Secretary at Oberlin College. In 1968 they moved back to Canton, NY. where he took the job of Registrar at St. Lawrence University until his retirement.

In Oberlin Mickey Williams was a reporter for the Oberlin News Tribune and was later appointed as assistant editor of the Oberlin College Alumni Magazine. When she and her husband moved back to Canton in 1968, she was appointed assistant in the Public Relations office at St. Lawrence University where she was well known for the AGreen Sheet.@ She retired from that position in 1984.

Always active in the musical world, Mickey sang with many choral organizations including the Barnard College Glee Club and the chapel choir at Columbia University. She was for many years a member of the choir at the Canton First Presbyterian Church, sang in the choir of First Church in Oberlin, and sang with the Presbyterian Church choir in Trumansburg. In addition she was a member of the Cornell University Community Chorus, the Musical Union at Oberlin College, and the St. Lawrence University community chorus.

Mickey and her husband liked to travel and made numerous journeys around the United States and Canada; several tours in Europe; and to China, India, Indonesia, Egypt, Morocco, Australia, New Zealand, and Venezuela. They spent many summers camping in the Adirondacks with their children and continued to enjoy camping and canoeing together in the Adirondacks upon their return to the North Country. Bob and Mickey spent many hours gardening during their working and retirement years.

Mickey was active in volunteer work wherever she lived. In Canton she was a long time helper at the Church and Community Program thrift shop, a Literacy Program volunteer, a member of the Friends of Canton Free Library board for over 20 years, chairman of the SLU Laurentian Women’s Association Lunch Bunch, was on the committee for the SLU faculty/staff retirees organization, and volunteered at North Country Public Radio. In Oberlin she served as an officer of the college faculty wives= organization and was active in school organizations when their children were young. She was honored for her work as a volunteer with the St. Lawrence County Historical Association, with the Canton Free Library (especially the book sale), and in 2008 received an award from the Zonta Club for her community service. She was an avid reader, a bridge player, and regularly did crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Williams is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Cynthia Williams and William Brower, of Asheville, NC, and Elizabeth Williams and Michael French, of Nelson, NH; and by two sons and daughters in law, LtCol David, USAF (Ret) and Kathleen Williams, of Great Falls, MT; and Robert and Monica Williams, of Bloomington, MN; four grandsons, David B. Williams (Jessie), SMSgt. Eric Williams (MSgt. Cathy) USAF, Geoffrey Williams, and Peter French (Francine); two step-granddaughters, Holly Fiss (Joe) and Michelle French; and seven great grandchildren. Two sisters, Dorothea Johnson and GrayceMurabito, died earlier.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring at Canton First Presbyterian Church. An announcement will be made at a later date.

Massena: William K. Richey, 81, passed away on Sunday night, December 24, 2017 at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY, surrounded by his loving family. Friends and family may be received on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 3:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church in Massena.

William was born on December 28, 1935 in Brainardsville, NY, the son, of Benjamin and Pearl (LaChance) Richey. He attended Massena High School and married Loretta Everard on January 19, 1957.

He was employed at ALCOA for 31 years retiring on December 31, 1997. He enjoyed drinking coffee while socializing with family, friends and joking around with everyone. He was also an avid sports fan.

William is survived by his wife Loretta of 60 years; a son, Randy and wife Sue of Plattsburgh, NY; two daughters, Cynthia Richey of Massena and Lori and husband Bill Ayers of VA; 5 grandchildren; Mandi Richey, Emily Richey, Joshua (Birttany) Tucker, Derek Richey, Justin Richey; 6 great grandchildren, Taneisha, Deontae, Jayveon Richey, Aaliyah Richey, Lillian, Lola Tucker; a sister, Arlene Smith of Plattsburg, NY. He was predeceased by his parents.

Massena: Richard Dean Charleston, of Churchill Ave, passed away, after his second battle with cancer on December 27, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Rick was born April 5, 1953 in Norfolk, VA, to Duane Vernon and Violet Catherine (McCray) Charleston. He moved to Massena, NY with his family in 1960 and graduated from Massena Central School in 1971. Richard later attended SUNY Cobleskill. He went to work at ALCOA in 1971, working there for 16 years. Rick then went to work at the New York Power Authority as a Maintenance Mechanic in 1987 later retiring in May 2015.

He married Cecilia “Cici” Martel on January 10, 1987 in Massena, NY. Richard was a member of the IBEW Local 2032, Massena. He was a proud 30-plus year member of Moosehead Outing Club in Colton, NY.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Cici; a son, Jacy Charleston of Norfolk, NY; a daughter and son-n-law, Ayla and Justin Coller of Norfolk, NY; grandchildren, Jessalyn, Hunter and Dekker Coller. He is also survived by sisters, Cheeta (Barry) Lazore-Dietlein of Brasher Falls, NY, Cindy (Kaelin) Harper-Baxter of Winthrop, NY and a brother, Dwight (Janet) Charleston of Fairfax, SC. He was predeceased by his parents.

There will be no public calling hours or funeral services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. MASSENA – Ms. Ahlene C. Pellegrino, 85, peacefully passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at St. Regis Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

Ahlene was born May 31, 1932 in Massena, the daughter of the late Juan and Clara DeRushia Pellegrino and attended schools in Madrid. Ahlene was a Certified Nurse’s Aide for United Helpers in Ogdensburg.

Ahlene is survived by her sisters, Freda Basso of Syracuse; Priscilla LaBrake of Massena and Karen Pellegrino of Monterey, CA; her brothers, Eric and Susan Pellegrino of Canton; and Robert Pellegrino of Schenectady; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ahlene was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Abar.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial to be held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery.

Mary Lou Pecori

Mary Lou Pecori, 91, formerly of 107 E. Lynde St., died Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at Carthage Area Hospital, after being transferred from Carthage Center for Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Pecori was born May 1, 1926, in Wilmington, NC, daughter of Herbert and Daisy Reed Rivenbark. She was educated in Wilmington, NC schools and married John P. Pecori on November 15, 1941, in Conway, SC. The couple moved to Watertown after their marriage. Mrs. Pecori worked at Butterfield School as a custodian for many years. She loved to play bingo and going to the casino.

Surviving are three sons, John, Jr. and Carol, Watertown, Paul J. and Reba, Springfield, TN, and Peter J. and Rosemary, Wilmington, NC, a daughter Mary Lou and Carl Farone, Watertown, a sister, Barbara Smith, Wilmington, NC, ten grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Pecori is predeceased by her husband John, brother Herbert C. Rivenbark, Jr. and grandson John Edward Farone.

Gouverneur – Grant L. Brundage, 82, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017 at Summit Village in Watertown.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 29th from 10:00 to 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Beth Quick, pastor of the Methodist Church officiating and spring burial in New St. James Cemetery, Gouverneur.

Grant was born on June 1, 1935, the son of Albert and Helen Johnson Brundage.

Raised by his mother and stepfather Max Estes, he grew up in Hermon and graduated from Gouverneur High School. Grant was employed as an electrician most of his life, retiring from Gouverneur Talc.

Grant married Patricia L. Jones on April 26, 1958 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Gouverneur.

Pat passed away on July 29th.

Grant enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, bowling, and the couple enjoyed traveling with friends and family on trips. He had been a member of the Gouverneur Vol. Fire Department, Gouverneur Elks Lodge, and the Gouverneur Masons.

He is survived by his children Lori and Jeff Donaldson of Gouverneur, Mark and Stacie Brundage of Plessis, 2 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and has a sister Patricia Sawyer. He is predeceased by his parents.
