Sharon Doris Frickey

Sharon Doris Frickey, 77, of Depot Street, died Wednesday evening, February 7, 2018 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, NY.

Born on April 29, 1940 in Glens Falls, NY, she was a daughter of Nelson and Loretta Murray Pincheon and graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1958.

Sharon married Roland J. Frickey on March 31, 1962 in Hialeah, FL.

During employment as a secretary, she worked for the US Navy, US Army and US Air Force throughout her career.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Antwerp and the Antwerp United Methodist Church.

Sharon enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, ceramics, baking and loved Popsicles. She was also a Blue Ribbon winner at the NYS Fair and Jefferson County Fair for her jelly.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Roland, Sr.; a son Roland, Jr., Antwerp, NY; a daughter, Deborah Graham, Crawfordville, FL; a daughter, Diana Frickey, Raytown, MO; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Emily Frickey, Redwood, NY; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Picheon, Stephen Viger and Thomas Viger; a sister, Carol Lee Sipowicz; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her parents and a brother, Jack Pincheon died previously.

Funeral Services will be 4 pm Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY with Rev. Genevieve M. Dox of the First Congregational Church of Antwerp, officiating.

Calling hours will be 2-4 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be 11 am Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871, with Rev. Gene Brown of the Thousand Islands Christian Church, Plessis, NY, officiating.

Gouverneur - Edith Mary “Edie” (Hanlon) Augur, 58, passed away from cancer on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 11th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

Edie was born in Watertown on December 29, 1959, the daughter of James and Lois LaBarge Hanlon.

She graduated from Gouverneur High School and from college with a master’s degree in teaching.

Edie had worked for St. Lawrence County at the county jail, for BOCES and as a BNA career counselor through BOCES. She also worked at Payless Shoes in Canton, served as a substitute teacher for 6 years at Colton-Pierrepont School, and was a tax preparer for Liberty Taxes in Gouverneur.

Edie married Edward R. Augur on August 9, 2009.

The couple enjoyed making crafts together including candlestick holders, angels, and bookmarkers. Edie also enjoyed cooking and baking and was a member of the Gouverneur VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband Eddie, her stepchildren PJ McGrath and his companion April Walrath, Mark McGrath and his companion Amanda Walrath, her step grandchildren Candice, Kaylee, Jayden, David, Markie, and Peyton, and her sister Athena. Edie is predeceased by her father James Hanlon, her mother Lois Thomas and stepfather Kenneth Thomas.

MASSENA – Mr. Ronald E. Riley, 76, of 40 Amherst Road, peacefully passed away Friday morning, February 9, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Friends may call call Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 10:00 AM at the Church of Sacred Heart with Rev. Michael Jablonski, celebrating. Burial will be held in the spring in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Randy Gene Petrie, age 64, passed away February 7, 2018. Born April 8, 1953, son of the late Harold and Emma Petrie, Randy married his sweetheart Janet Spaulding on March 17, 1973. He is survived by his wife Janet and their four children, Lorie and Joseph Glenn; Patricia and Scott Bluto; Roy Petrie; and Steven Petrie. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 7 brothers, 3 sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown, NY. Calling hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

CARTHAGE - Patricia Joyce Schermerhorn, 82, passed away surrounded by family at Centers Health Care in Carthage on February 7, 2018.

Patricia was born a Valentine’s baby to James and Lilac (Tillie) Newman in Carthage, NY. She graduated from Carthage High School and married Ernest John Schermerhorn on April 27, 1952. She worked several jobs in the community and operated Ernie’s Cycle Shop (1967-1983) and Schermerhorn Deer Farm with her husband and family. After her husband’s death in 2006, Patricia moved to Brooksville, FL with her sister Yvonne where they enjoyed traveling, casinos and many new friends in their community. In 2016, she returned home to spend more time with her family. Pat liked to watch westerns, sing along to music and play bingo. Friendly competition would also occur while watching her “programs”; Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She had a fondness for sweets, traveling and crocheting gifts for friends and family.

Patricia was one of eight children. She is survived by two sisters and two brothers: Yvonne Pettit of Brooksville, FL, Barbara (Harry) Gotham of Carthage, Rocky (Carole) Newman of Carthage, and Randy (Cheryl) Newman of Natural Bridge. Her parents, three brothers (Gerald, Fred and Gary), a sister in-law, Leah, a brother in-law, Kenneth, and a great granddaughter all passed before her.

Pat and Ernie have 3 children: Wayne (Linda) Schermerhorn of Natural Bridge, NY, Tamara (Thomas) Buckley of Brooksville, FL and Natural Bridge, NY and Lori Favri(and companion, Tim Gonseth) of Calcium, NY. She is survived by 7 grandchildren; Anthony (Danielle) Schermerhorn, Angela Schermerhorn and friend Alan Herbert, Timothy (Ashley) Buckley, Adrienne (Jason) Hancock, Kyle Sanders and fiancée Penny, Skyler Favri and fiancé Steve, Kohl Favri, 15 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central New York; 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse NY 13204-1361.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at from 4-6 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A funeral service will immediately follow at 6 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel. A gathering will be held after the service at the Carthage VFW Post #2590. Food donations are greatly appreciated.

James H. Myers, 94, a lifelong resident of Leonardo, passed away Thursday, February 8th. Born in Long Branch to the late Harry and Carol Myers, James was raised in Leonardo, proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army, and then returned to New Jersey where he worked for JCP&L. After 35 years, he retired as a General Foreman in 1981. James enjoyed gardening, traveling and vacationing at his lake house in New York State . He considered his home in Three Mile Bay, NY his “Official address” since that is where he loved to be the most.

James was predeceased by his first two wives, Florence in 1973 and Mary in 1988. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Beatrice and his daughters Jean (Joe) Koeppel of Leonardo and Judy Kraft of Easton, Pa. James also leaves behind 5 grandchildren; Tracy Kraft, David (Olga) Kraft, Rachel (Bill) Ganley, Rebecca (Greg) Coffman, and Peter (Rosalie) Koeppel along with 9 great grandchildren.

Clement Domenic “CD” Pangallo

Clement Domenic “CD” Pangallo, 74, of Washington, DC and West Palm Beach, FL passed away on January 24, 2018. He was born October 5, 1943, in Watertown, NY to the late Philomena (Frattalli) and Domenic Pangallo.

After graduating Watertown High School, CD received a BA from Cortland College, a Master’s Degree and a Doctorate of Education from Mississippi State University. He served as a Captain in the US Air Force. CD had a career with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management as Chief, Planning Division, Workforce Training Service. Most recently, he was Managing Director for the American Institute of Architects. CD and his wife enjoyed traveling and collecting both art and antiques. CD was an active member of a Washington, DC “Harriers” group throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, CD was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Michelle (Maloney) Pangallo and two siblings, Catherine and Gerard.

He is survived by a brother Rocco and his sister-in-law Karen Pangallo of Annapolis, MD; sister Phyllis and his brother-in- law Herb Scott of Three Mile Bay, NY; and several nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

A Memorial Mass will be offered on Thursday, February 15 at 10:30 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD. CASTORLAND – Nancy M. Reape, 69, of Van Amber Road, Castorland, died Friday, February 9, 2018 at her home.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville with Pastor Dan Tabolt officiating. Calling hours are Friday, February 16, 2018 from 4 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and Saturday, February 17, 2018 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Immediately following the funeral service there will be a gathering at the Lewis County Search & Training Center, 7782 W. State Street, Lowville. Any food donations may be taken directly to the LCS&R Training Center on Saturday morning. Spring burial will be at Lowville Rural Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of over 51 years, Thomas; her 4 children, Patricia and LaVerne Smith Jr., Lowville; Kelly and Leslie Reape, Castorland; Kris and Daniel Foote; Guilderland, and Tammy and Kevin Zehr; Croghan; 5 grandchildren: Amber, Kayla, Kirsten, Molly, and Thomas; 1 great granddaughter, Korlyn; several step- grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; 2 brothers and 1 sister. She is predeceased by 2 sisters; and 2 brothers who died at birth.

Nancy was born May 5, 1948 a daughter of the late William and Patricia Kelly Albertson and was a 1965 graduate of Father Leo Memorial School, Croghan.

On June 25, 1966, she married Thomas L. Reape at St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Anthony Moore officiating. She was a homemaker and previously was employed at the AMF plant; Lowville, Beaverite Corp.; Beaver Falls, for Dr. Ismail, Beaver Falls, for Dr.Ocampo, Lowville; and as an Avon representative. She was a volunteer EMT for over 25 years with Lewis County Search and Rescue and had also been on the New Bremen Board of Elections for over 40 years.

Ogdensburg: John C. Molnar, 87, formally of Waddington, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the United Helpers RiverLedge Nursing Home surrounded by his family. Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Madrid. A Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Church in Madrid with Rev. Doug Lucia presiding. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waddington in the spring.

John was born on October 23, 1930 in Louisville, NY, the son of the late John B. and Margaret (Bandy) Molnar. He attended Massena High School and upon graduation joined the Airforce and was stationed in Hawaii and Japan during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant after serving four years. John married Virginia Thorpe on May 7, 1955 at St. John the Baptist Church by the Rev. Dewey. He worked for Adirondack Asphalt doing road construction. The company later got bought out by Allstate Asphalt and he retired as Vice President and Manager after 44 years.

John was a member of the Madrid Fire Department for 60 year and was a past chief. He was also a member of the Madrid American Legion and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Potsdam. John also belonged to the Palmer Sports Men Hunting Club, Parishville ATV club, where he was on the board of directors and the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and was very active in different bowling leagues in his younger days.

John is survived by two daughters, Sally and husband John Baxter of Black Lake and Mary Jane Perry and companion Jerry Paynter of Saranac; a son, Gerald and wife Melody Molnar of Madrid; eight grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lou Russel of Brushton and Mildred Stark of West Parishville; a companion, Helen Phillips and several nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his wife, Virginia; a sister, Margaret Ramsey.

Jack N. Smith

Jack N. Smith, 86, of Canton passed away in the comfort of his home on Friday, February 09, 2018. He was born on January 22, 1932 in Canton, son to the late Clarence Gillett and Anne Morris Bice, and adoptive parents, Erwin and Bernice Smith. Jack graduated from Canton High School in 1948 and served in the Marine Corps aboard the U.S.S. Midway during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954 attaining rank of Sergeant.

Upon his return from service in 1954, Jack became employed by the Operating Engineers Union Local 545 working until his retirement in 1993. On October 1, 1955, Jack married Shirley Planty at the Baptist Parsonage in Richville.

Jack was a history buff, loved reading, hunting, fishing, bird watching and travel. He coached little league baseball in Canton for many years. Being a devoted husband and father, his life revolved around his wife, children and grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley of Canton; six children, Erwin (Karen) Smith of Webster; Michael (Kimberly) Smith of Duluth, GA; David (Lori) Smith of Canton; James (Julie) Smith of Ogdensburg; Debra (Kevin) Mousaw of Canton and Nicole Zeledon of Massena; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four siblings, Robert and Randy Bice, Sandy Fields and Nancy Hough.

Two brothers, Butch and John Bice and a sister, Mary White predecease him.

Calling hours for Jack will be held on Monday, February 12 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral, Canton. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 14 at 11:30 am at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton, with Pastor Michael Terrell, officiating. Burial in the Fairview Cemetery, Canton will follow the service.

Elmer C. Gamble, 73, of Reynolds Rd., died Saturday, February 3, 2018 at his winter residence in Webster, FL.

Born on May 2, 1944 in Seely Bay, Ontario, Canada, he was a son of Cecil E. and Sarah Ann Sly Gamble. The family moved to the United States when Elmer was 4 years of age and he graduated from Alexandria Bay High School in 1961.

Elmer married Mary E. Carpenter of Clayton, NY on December 2, 1963 in LaFargeville, NY. Mary died April 10, 2014. The couple had lived on the Reynolds Rd., since their marriage. They owned and operated Gamble Farms, a dairy farm and they sold used tractor parts.

He was a member of the Cast Iron Seat Club.

He loved to go to auctions and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Robert Calhoun, Redwood, NY; three grandchildren, Charles Matthew Phelps, Syracuse, NY, Zachary Robert Calhoun and his wife Samantha, Redwood, NY, Rachael Amelia Calhoun and companion, Andrew Rupert, Heuvelton, NY; a brother, Arthur Gamble, Clayton, NY; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Loveland, Golfport, FL and Geraldine Carpenter, Clayton, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents, his wife, Mary, a son, Charles Edward Gamble, a sister, Evelyn Johnson and a brother, Donald Gamble all died previously.

Services will be 1 pm Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY with Rev. Frederica Webb, United Methodist Minister, officiating.

Calling hours will be from 11-1 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Private burial will be on the family plot in Barnes Settlement Cemetery, Alexandria Bay, NY.

Mildred E. Kersey

Mildred E. Kersey, 90, of Sandy Creek, died Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Crouse Hospital. Mildred was born in Ellisburg, NY and resided most of her life in Sandy Creek. She was the only child born to the late Lloyd and Melba (Southwick) Noble and was a 1946 graduate of Sandy Creek High School.

Mildred was the produce manager at Rod’s Big M and the manager of the local ice cream shop, The Snackery, both in Sandy Creek. She was a member of Sandy Creek United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday school.

Mildred is survived by her husband of 69 years, Elwin Kersey; three daughters: Barbara Sellis (David) of Venice, FL, Susan Edick (Robert) of Pulaski, and Janet Timmerman (Art Muldoon) of Fairport, NY; five grandchildren, Rene, Rita, Tim, Amy, and Jeff; five great grandchildren and her extended family including Rand Timmerman and daughters Heidi and Miranda.

The family wishes to extend thanks to their special friend and neighbor, Pat Caster.

SOUTH COLTON – Services for 71 year old Robert T. “Bob” Irish, a resident of 219 East Hill Road, South Colton, will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton. Graveside prayers will be held in the springtime in the South Colton Cemetery. Mr. Irish passed away Friday evening at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy, South Colton; two sons, Robert M. and Tiffany Irish, South Colton; Steven and Sarah Irish, Elbridge, NY; his six brothers, Frank and Carol Fisher, South Colton; George and Frieda Fisher, Colton; David and Wannetta Matthie, Frank and Lena Matthie, Roger and Mary Matthie, all of South Colton and Tom and Bridget Matthie, Colton; his four sisters, Dorothy Fisher, Potsdam; Betty Powell, Wyoming; Sandy Matthie and Sally Matthie-Patraw, both of Colton as well as several nieces and nephews. Bob was pre-deceased by his parents and a brother, Floyd Fisher.

Born in Potsdam, NY on April 14, 1946 to the late Paul Fisher and Jean Matthie, Bob attended Colton-Pierrepont School and then served in the U.S. Army. He married Peggy A. Potter on November 3, 1973. Bob worked for the Town of Colton Highway Department for 28 years, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed the outdoors very much and the time he spent with his hunting and fishing partners, Hughie Horton and Ron Austin. Also, Bob enjoyed boating and being active with the Sunday Rock ATV Club, the St. Lawrence County ATV Association and spending time with the diner crew. Charette, a resident of the Highland Nursing Home in Massena and formerly of Cold Brook Drive in South Colton, will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Colton with Rev. Stephen Rocker presiding. Burial will be held in the springtime at the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Colton with military honors. Family and friends may call at St. Patrick’s Church in Colton on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Mr. Charette passed away late Thursday evening, February 8, 2018.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Agnes, also a resident of the Highland Nursing Home, Massena; a son, Larry(MaryAnn) of Auburn, three daughters, Lynne Charette(Janet Swarthout) of Walworth, NY, Debra Rose(Doug) of Weedsport NY, and Roberta Harvey(late Robert) of Auburn, NY; two step-sons, Danny (Cheryl) Durant and Patrick Durant; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Joe was pre-deceased by a son, Joseph Jr. (Valerie), a step-son, Chris (Lynn) Durant and his four sisters, Lucille Bedore, Rosalee Proux, Yvonne LaFave and Florence Tarbox.

Born in Piercefield, NY on July 2, 1926 to the late Leo and Floss Hair Charette, he was formerly married Genevieve Debiaw for 27 years, living in Auburn, NY while raising their five children. Joe later married Agnes Robideau on April 10, 1976. Joe worked as a mechanic and carpenter privately as well as working for Parkridge Hospital in Rochester as a maintenance supervisor. Joe was a communicant of St. Paul’s Church in South Colton and enjoyed living on Higley Flow. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was always a proud veteran. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and feeding the chipmunks. Stewart Dewey, 68, formerly of Plattsburgh, died on February 10, 2018, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, entrusted with arrangements. There will be a graveside service in the spring at Hermon Cemetery.

He is survived by his mother, Eleanor Dewey, TN, his sister Eileen Farrow (James), TN, his brother, Dwight “Ike” Dewey (Marilyn), LA, several nieces and nephews.

Stewart was born on October 19, 1949, in Plattsburgh, New York, the son of Herbert and Eleanor Hamilton Dewey. He graduated from Saranac High School, Saranac Lake, NY.

He married Carol Thompson in Morrisonville, NY, she predeceased him on September 9, 2014. He was a lab tech for Ayerst Laboratory in Rouses Point, NY.

Stewart enjoyed hunting, fishing and outdoor activities.

NORFOLK—Funeral services for 12 year old Ryan Richard Conte, a resident of 1140 County Route 38, Norfolk, will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 8 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk with Rev. Diane Hutchinson from the Norfolk Wesleyan Methodist Church presiding. Burial will be held in the springtime at the Raymondville Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. Ryan passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his home with his family at his side.

Ryan is survived by his parents, Matthew and Christine Conte, Raymondville; a brother, Andrew and a sister Katelynn, both at home; his paternal grandfather, Roger and Mary Conte, Norfolk; his paternal grandmother, Charlotte and Ron Beamis, West Stockholm; his maternal grandmother, Carol Craig, Norfolk and his aunts and uncles Jason and Mistee Conte, Raymondville; Melissa and Pete Tucker, Parishville and Steve Craig, Canton as well as his many friends. Ryan was pre-deceased by his maternal grandfather, Arthur Craig.

Born in Massena, NY on April 8, 2005 to Matthew and Christine Craig Conte, Ryan was a student at the Potsdam Middle School. He loved to listen to music, especially his favorite song, “Me and Bobby McGee” and enjoyed going to school and being with his friends. Ryan also loved to swim and enjoyed loud, wild and crazy things. He was the happiest boy who loved spending time with his family and friends.
