Rogersville: Rex Ennis, age 73 of Rogersville TN and Grindstone Island NY passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at his home. He attended All Saints Episcopal Church in Morristown. Rex was preceded in death by his son, Joel B. Lamb, parents, Richard and Marlene Rexford Ennis; brother, Richard Ennis, III.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Lamb-Ennis; son, Andrew ”Chuck” (Lisa) Lamb of Roxboro, NC; daughter, Kellie Ennis (Robert) Fox of Elkridge, MD; sister, Lauren (Renato) Sarti of Endwell, NY; sister in law, Marty (Gary) Heuer; nephew, Alex (Ashli) Sarti; niece, Alyse(Bill) Davidson; several cherished grandchildren; as well as many close friends and acquaintances.

Visitation hours will be 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Rogersville Presbyterian Church.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the church with Rev. Rodney Norris and Richard Beets officiating.

Frederick B. Fitzpatrick

The funeral service for Frederick B. Fitzpatrick will be 1:00pm Saturday, March 10th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Pastor Orville Eacker of Stepping Stone Church officiating. Calling hours will precede the service at the funeral home from 11:00am – 1:00pm.

Frederick passed away Wednesday, March 7th at Samaritan Medical Center where he had been hospitalized since March 3rd. He was 77 years old.

Born January 6, 1941 in Burlington, VT, he was a son of Lawrence Fitzpatrick, Jr. & Elsie Tacy Fitzpatrick. He received his education in Burlington, and joined the United States Army in 1963 where he served in Vietnam.

Frederick worked as a machine inspector at the New York Air Brake. He also worked as an electrician in the northern New York area.

He married Elizabeth “Betty” Andrews on May 10, 2015. The couple had been together for 20 years prior to their marriage.

Frederick was a life member of the American Legion Post 61 and the VFW Post 1400. He was also a member of the Watertown Elks Lodge and the Watertown Eagles Club.

Frederick took pride in serving his community. He was a founding member of the American Legion County Family Color Guard. Mr. and Mrs. Fitzpatrick also organized & coordinated the welcome packets for returning active duty soldiers and wounded warrior transition units. He loved being around family and friends, and dancing with his wife on their “date nights” at the Legion.

Surviving besides his wife, Betty, are his children: Travis Moore of Florida, Chad Fitzpatrick of Watertown; his step-children: Michael Walker of North Carolina, Cindy (Scott) Hayden of Rossie, Hope Walker of Rossie, Krista (Harry) Brenno of Rossie; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by a son, Kelly Fitzpatrick, who passed away in 1998.

A private burial will be held at the families discretion.

Kathryn E. Giglio, 91, 847 Leray Street, formerly of Utica, NY died March 6, 2018, at Samaritan Keep Home Watertown, NY.

Mrs. Giglio was born June 12, 1926, in Utica, a daughter of Jerome and Annie Salzman Steates. Mrs. Giglio attended Utica area schools. She married Anthony Giglio March 17, 1944 in Utica, where she lived until 2008. Mr. Giglio died in 1982. Mrs. Giglio was a home maker and a communicant of Our Lady of Lords Church in Utica. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bowling, bingo, and activities in her previous senior living center.

Surviving are three sons and a daughter in-law, Charles, Gardner, NC, Steven, Aberdeen, Washington, James (Lori), Albany, NY, five daughters and their husbands, Susan Shue (Daniel), Batavia, NY, Sharon Doolen (John), St. Charles, MO, Anne L. Sabatier (Robert), Springfield, VA, Mary Rose Long (Timothy), Watertown, Kathy Giglio (Charles Barbaro), Roanoke, VA, twenty one grandchildren, many great grandchildren. A sister-in-law, Gertrude Steates, New Hartford, NY, several nieces and nephews. A son, Anthony Giglio, three brothers, Charles, Jerome and Donald, predeceased her.

Marion Huchzermeier

Marion Huchzermeier, 98, of Stevens Drive, Cicero passed away Friday February 2, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, Syracuse, NY. She was born on October 29, 1919 in the town of Orleans, NY. She graduated from LaFargeville High School in 1936 and SUNY Canton in 1943, and then worked as a Dietician at Crouse Irving Hospital, Syracuse. Marion married Francis Huchzermeier in 1951 at the home of the bride’s parents in Depauville, NY. Marion became certified as a Nursing Assistant in 1976 and worked at James Square Nursing Home, and then as a private Nursing Assistant until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening around the house in her spare time. Mr. Huchzermeier passed away in 1992. Marion is survived by two sons, Roy (Claire), Syracuse, NY, and Jay, Cicero, NY; two grandchildren, Matthew (Agatha), and Stefanie (Jake); a sister-in-law, Irene Haller, Watertown, NY; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Ralph Haller, Clyde Haller, and her sister Irene Haller White.

Howard Dean Moore

Howard Dean Moore, 96, of Lorraine, NY died Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, Watertown, NY.

The memorial service will be 1:00pm Monday, March 12th at the Lorraine Methodist Church, with Rev. Mark Pierce officiating.

Howard was born in his family home February 22, 1922 on Moore Road, Lorraine, the son of Orville H. and Mildred I. Moore.

He was a graduate of Adams High School.

He served with the US Army Air Corp from October 1942 to October 1945 in the 449th Bomb Group. During his service time he carried out 50 missions as a ball gunner flying out of Italy, ten of which were on the famous B-24 known as the “Buzzer”.

He married his high school sweetheart, Georgiabell “Jo” June Reed, in March of 1945. They had four children, Daniel Edward, Dolores Ann Stead, Mary Kathleen Barden, and David Bruce (who passed away in 1989).

The Moore family lived in Adams, NY for 7 years before moving to Minoa, NY. Dean worked for Stanley and Wieder Construction, retired in 1987, and moved back to Moore Rd., Lorraine where he enjoyed life in the country.

Dean and Jo enjoyed their family and friends in the area. They traveled, canoed, cross-country skied, have an active social and church life, square danced, and went camping.

Besides his wife, Jo, and children, he is survived by his sisters, Patricia Mahan of San Diego, Mary Alice Kogut of Lowville; 6 grandchildren: Joshua Daniel (Elizabeth) Loeb, Tamlin (Caron) Moore, Jeremy David (Michelle) Moore, Edward Cleveland Barden IV, Teressa Sue Moore, and Allyson Alexandra Barden Novoa. He is also survived by twenty-two nieces and nephews.

Besides his son, David, he is predeceased by his sister, Barbara Jean Williams, and his brothers, John Allen & Orville Harold.

CARTHAGE – Mary J. Savage, 89, of 36749 State Route 3, died on March 7, 2018, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born on February 21, 1929 in Hammond, New York, a daughter of the late Walter and Margaret (Dake) Plantz. Mary grew up in Oak Point on the St. Lawrence River. Her family roots go deep in Oak Point, as far back as her grandfather, who was born there in 1851. Her mother was born in the Dake family home in 1898. Mary was born and grew up on River Road in Oak Point. She loved swimming and boating on the beautiful St. Lawrence River. She was a 1947 High School graduate. On June 25, 1947 she married William P. Savage. They moved just down River Road to the Savage family farm. There she worked on the farm with her husband. As they started to have a family, Mary became a housewife. Mary and Bill built a cottage on the River in the 1950’s. In 1974, they sold the family farm but kept the river portion, placing a mobile home on the remaining property. She and her husband were employed by Watertown Daily Times delivering papers. They also delivered mail from Chippewa Bay in Hammond, NY. They had a small rubbish removal service around Oak Point and Chippewa Bay. Mary’s husband, Bill, passed in 1994. In 2011, she moved in with her loving daughter, Margaret and her husband Cliff, who took care of her until her death.

Mary’s biggest devotion to life was making sure her family loved one another and never held any regrets. Throughout Mary’s life, she loved to play cards and attend card parties with her family and friends. She was an avid crocheter, making beautiful afgans for family members. She loved to read. She also loved playing Bingo, watching game shows, going to casinos and playing scratch-off lottery tickets. All with the hope of winning the “Big One”. But she accepted any winnings she got.

She is survived by five children, Margaret (Clifford) Scougal of Carthage; Warren Earl (Nancy) Savage of Bergen, NY; William Edward (Debbie) Savage of Canton, NY; Judy M. Hamm of Watertown; Michael C. (Cynthia) Savage of Elma & Hammond, NY; a brother, William Plantz of Hammond, NY; a sister, Viola Heck of Hammond, NY; twelve grandchildren, Jennie; Mark; Brenda; Cathy; Audrey; Michele; Christopher; Aaron; Shelby; John; Jessica; Mary; as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mary is predeceased by her husband, William P. Savage; a son, Patrick John Savage; a daughter, Ann Elizabeth Savage; and seven siblings, Warren Plantz; Lottie Decesare; Grace Conger; Walter Plantz; Lewis Plantz; Franklin Plantz; and David Plantz and one grandson Bryan C. Steveson.

Calling hours will be held at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St. Carthage, on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 4-7 PM and Monday, March 12, 2018 from 11-12 PM followed by a funeral service in funeral home chapel at 12 PM.

Mildred F. Zehr

LOWVILLE - Mildred F. Zehr, 102, of Shady Avenue, died on Tuesday afternoon, March 6, 2018 at her home under the loving care of her children and caregivers.

Mom was born on May 4, 1915 on a farm in the town of New Bremen, the daughter of the late Clinton and Anna (Hofer) Farney. She grew up in a large extended family and was always close to and enjoyed her siblings and many cousins. There was no electricity, but the Farney farm had generators and was a gathering place for family and neighbors to listen to the events of WWII on the radio in the parlor. Her cousin Calvin Farney was killed on Iwo Jima. Two of Mom’s great grandchildren, Abby and Mike Eisel, are the 5th generation to live in the original Farney farmhouse and the radio is next door in Tom and Linda’s house.

Mom attended the one room school house on Van Amber Road through eighth grade. For the first two years of high school she took the train from New Bremen to Lowville, staying with her Aunt for the week. Her father would pick her up on Friday and bring her back to the Van Amber Road farm. School buses took over for the train when she was a Junior. Mom graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1933. She worked for Upstate Telephone Company for ten years following graduation.

Mildred Farney and Frederick J. Zehr, Sr. were married after the war, on May 25, 1946, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm on State Route 177. They sold the farm to their son Tom, and retired and moved to their present address. Fred passed away on May 10, 2000.

She is survived by her six children, her three sons, Colonel Frederick J. and Lois Zehr, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO; Thomas and Linda Zehr of Castorland; Jeffrey Zehr and Val Juby of Martinsburg; her three daughters, Sue Matuszczak of Glenfield; Virginia and Mark Trobert of Jamesville; and Cynthia and Art Derouin of Cooperstown; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; several step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Helen Farney (Robert) of California.

She is predeceased by, her grandson, Frederick W. Zehr, her siblings, Howard M. Farney, Everett H. Farney, Marie Farney, and Robert C. Farney.

Mom enjoyed cooking, needlework, crossword puzzles, playing cards and family gatherings. She especially loved playing euchre and played from the age of 6 until she was 102.

The memorial service for Pauline M. Lucas of 501 Shipyard Drive Sackets Harbor, NY will be Monday, March 12, 2018 in the chapel of TLC Funeral Home, Inc. at noon. Mrs. Lucas died at her home on March 7, 2018. She was 66.

She was born on December 5, 1951 in Adams, New York the daughter of James and Florence Vrooman Hiscock. She graduated from Lowville Academy and furthered her education at CCBI in Syracuse to which she graduated in 1983 with her degree in accounting. She worked in patient registration for Samaritan Medical Center until she retired.

Mrs. Lucas enjoyed crocheting, painting, and spending time with her grandchildren, her great grandson and family. She also enjoyed feeding and watching wild birds.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association. Surviving are her children William (Amy) Matteson of Sackets Harbor, Sidney (Tina) Goutremout of Montague and Debra Ann Herzig of Copenhagen, her sisters Evelyn West of Carthage, Irene Mullins of Bowling Green, KY and Carlton (Florence) Simmons of Antwerp, NY, her grandchildren Sidney Goutremout of Lowville, Taylor Matteson and Ashley Armstrong, Britney Matteson all of Sackets Harbor, Michaela Goutremout of Watertown, Cassandra Goutremout, Lucas Goutremout, and Ladett Goutremout all of Montague, and Karlee Herzig of Copenhagen, Alysa and Colene Herzig of Copenhagen. She is also survived by a great grandson Liam Bombardier of Sackets Harbor and one great granddaughter. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her three brothers Willard Hiscock, Herbert Hiscock and James Meyer Hiscock. Arrangements are with TLC Funeral Home, Inc.

William L. Curtis Jr.

William L. Curtis Jr., 76 of Hillside Dr. Watertown passed away suddenly in Scranton, PA while attending an antique tool show.

William was born June 24, 1941 in Buffalo, NY the son of William L. and Helen Austin Curtis Sr. He graduated from Sackets Harbor High School, Hamilton College and received his master’s degree in education from Colgate University.

“Bill” was a teacher in Watertown for 12 years and then became a Labor Relations Specialist for NYSUT in Watertown. He retired on January 1st, 1998.

Bill married Judith A Ferris on August 18, 1981 in Watertown.

He was a former Commissioner for St. Lawrence Planning Board, Dispute Resolution Center Board and Donor to several charities. He was an avid antique tool collector and member of several Antique Collectors and Dealers.

He is survived by his wife Judy and two daughters: Susan (James) Yerdon of Adams Center, Barbara (William) French of North Chili, NY. He has two grandsons and one great grandson, a sister Elizabeth McMillan of Baltimore, Maryland and a brother Robert Curtis of Rochester, NY, nieces and nephews. His dog Lucy was a special companion.

Funeral services will be Tuesday 11:00 AM at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Monday March 12th. He will be cremated following the services. Bernard A. Dominie, 86, of Canton passed away peacefully, while in the company of his family and under the care of Hospice, on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the United Helpers RiverLedge Health Care Facility in Ogdensburg. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral or calling hours. A celebration of his life will be planned for the summer.

Bernard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia; a daughter, Roberta Dominie of Canton; three sons, Mark (Barbara) Dominie of Marathon; Eric (Jayne) Dominie of Minden, LA and Dan (Renee) Dominie of Canton; daughter - in - law, Sherry Dominie of Massena; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Ames and Jean Salton; and canine companion, Molly.

Bernard is predeceased by a son, Dennis Dominie and his parents, Leonard and Doris Dominie.

Bernard was born October 14, 1931 in Russell, the son of Leonard and Doris (Viancour) Dominie. He attended country schools and graduated from Canton High School. On June 13, 1953 he was married to Patricia Toomey. Bernard was a farmer, he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and water skiing. Even after he retired from farming, Bernard enjoyed keeping a garden. He was a member of the Quebec Brook hunting club and the Knife Collectors Guild.

Mrs. Joan B. Clarke, 81, of Russell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.

Joan was born October 12, 1936 in Manchester, NH; daughter of the late Marcel and Florence (Coverly) VanDerBeken. She graduated from West High School in New Hampshire. On August 19, 1954, Joan was married to John C. “Calvin” Clarke in Wichita Falls, Texas. She worked in the cafeteria at Knox-Memorial Central School and later in dining services at SUNY Canton. Joan enjoyed shuffleboard, play cards, pedro parties, and she and Calvin bowled in the co-ed league at the Canton Club.

Joan was a communicant of St. Rene’s Church in Russell and later St. Mary’s Church of Canton.

Joan is survived by three children, Joni (Robin) Tressider of Russell; John (Darlene) Clarke of Canton and Daniel Clarke and companion Peggy Cardinal of Russell; a sister, Patricia Flewelling of Manchester, NH and grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband John C. “Calvin” Clarke and by a daughter, Cathy Clarke Folsom.

Joe passed away late Wednesday evening at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital with his loving family at his side. Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara, Colton; three sons, Jerry and Penny Thomas, Kevin and Nancy Thomas and Jason and Anastasia Thomas, all of Colton; two daughters, Jill and Kenneth Chase, Colton and Brenda Thomas, Stockbridge, GA; his ten beloved grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Glen and Marion Thomas, South Colton; Orin “Bee” and Bonnie Thomas, Colton; Bing Thomas, Louisville; his two sisters, Anna and Donald Grant, DeKalb and Kay and Robert O’Brian, Lowville, a sister-in-law Bernice Thomas, Colton, as well as several nieces and nephews. Joe was pre-deceased by his parents, an infant son, Wayne David Thomas and his brothers Francis Thomas and Allen Thomas.

Born in Pierrepont, NY on May 13, 1932 to the late Roy and Kathryn “Kitty” Dorothy Thomas, Joe graduated from High School and married Barbara M. Seymour. He worked for the USPS as a rural carrier for 25 plus years, retiring in 1997. Joe’s true passion however, came from working on his family farm. He loved to be outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, cutting wood and working in his sugarbush producing Maple Syrup. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends and spending time at hunting camp, Brunner Hill, where he was a charter member. Joe was an active and Honorary member of the Pierrepont Fire Department for a total of 61 years, and the St. Lawrence County Maple Producers Association. Thomas B. Booth, 66, of Dexter passed away at his home March 7, 2018.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Sunday, March 11, from 2 - 5PM. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Monday, March 12, at 11AM with Rev. Toby Schilling presiding followed by burial in Brookside Cemetery with full military honors.

Tom was born in Watertown on June 1, 1951, son of Harry Edmund and Christine L. (Baker) Booth. He attended Watertown schools before joining the United States Marine Corps on March 27, 1969. He served in Vietnam. Tom received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Battle Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, RVN Cross of Gallantry with palm and frame, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Purple Heart Medal. He was honorably discharged on August 14, 1970.

On August 9, 1969 he married Donna L. Presley at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.

He was a truck driver for Marcinko’s Trucking in Watertown for many years. Tom was a proud member of the Purple Heart Assoc., Disabled American Veterans, and a life member of VFW Post 1400. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed golfing, camping, classic cars, and Harley Davidsons. His friends and family remember what a jokester and story teller he was. With his wife, Donna, on vocals, he also enjoyed playing guitar in several local bands.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Donna; five children, Thomas B. Booth, Jr. and wife, Sheri, Watertown, Cheri Booth and companion, Joseph Beach, Rodman, Nicole Booth, Dexter, Kelly Boyanski and husband, Michael, Carolina Beach, NC, and Patrick Booth, Dexter; sixteen grandchildren; mother of two of his grandsons, Amanda Chapman; eight great grandchildren, including Jaiden who was his pride and joy; three siblings, Bonnie Thompson, Kissimmee, FL, John M. Booth and wife, Donna, Philadelphia, NY, and Ronald E. Booth and wife, Nancy, Watertown; sister-in-law, Priscilla Booth, Watertown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. His brother, Robert H. Booth, died September 1, 2006.

SOUTH COLTON—Graveside services for 88 year old Douglas F. Golden, a resident of the United Helpers Riverledge Campus in Ogdensburg and formerly of Cold Brook Drive, South Colton, will be held in the springtime at the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Colton with Rev. Stephen Rocker presiding. Mr. Golden passed away early Thursday morning, March 8, 2018 at the Riverledge Campus. Doug is survived by his good friend, Donald Shoen, South Colton as well as his nieces and nephews. Doug was pre-deceased by his wife Joan in 2016 as well as his brothers and sisters.

Born in Rome, NY on June 25, 1929 to the late Arthur and Elma Golden, Doug graduated from High School and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and married Joan T. McAndrew’s on June 29, 1957. Doug worked for Bristol-Myers in Syracuse, NY for many years, retiring in 1986 when he and his late wife moved to South Colton. Doug enjoyed his peace and quiet, taking long walks and was considered to be a master carpenter, building many custom and unique items.
