pIt is with deep sadness that the family of Donna Jean (Fletcher) Hutchinson announces her passing on March 22, 2016. She was born and lived most of her life in Ogdensburg, NY, and resided for the past four years in Manassas, VA./ppDonna was a 1961 Graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy. She continued her education earning three Masters Degrees in both music and education from the Crane School of Music, Potsdam State University and St. Lawrence University./ppThrough the years, she helped children in many ways. She was one of the founding members of the Heuvelton Cooperative Nursery School and taught music in the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and Ogdensburg school districts. She was highly dedicated to the art of teaching at Heuvelton Central School for 35 years where she was well-respected by colleagues, students and their families. /ppDonna also shared her expertise in music by giving piano lessons in her home and serving as music director and organist in several churches throughout Ogdensburg. Her longest time in this role was at St. John’s Episcopal Church where she developed many close and dear friends as a parishioner./ppUpon retirement, Donna volunteered at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, NY, and remained actively involved in her community in Manassas, VA. /ppDonna is survived by her two daughters and their families; Beth (Hutchinson) Kellner, son-in-law David Kellner, grandsons Arden and Samuel Kellner of Baldwinsville, NY and Martha Hutchinson, son-in-law Ryan Richardson and grandson Gavin Richardson of Manassas, VA. Donna is also survived by her sister Kathleen (Fletcher) Anthony of Toledo, Ohio./ppA memorial service in her honor will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday April 9th at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg, NY. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall./p

pGOUVERNEUR- Lee R. Bowhall, age 69 of Gouverneur, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Gouverneur Hospital./ppLee was born on August 20, 1946 in Gouverneur to the late Carl A. and Nettie E. (Lucas) Bowhall. He graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1964 and then entered into the United States Navy where he served from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1969. /ppHe married Pansy Smith on February 12, 1971 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church with Rev. Stanley Brown officiating. Lee had worked at Riverside Ironworks for about 10 years before going to work at Gouverneur Talc, where he worked for 22 years, retiring in 2003./ppLee was a member of the St. Lawrence County Fair Board and Northern New York Poultry Fanciers. He loved raising chickens and helping kids learn about them. He also loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, refinishing antiques and puttering in his garage./ppSurviving is his wife, Pansy; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason “Cob” and Carri Bowhall; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela “Pam” and Scott Helvie, Retha “Bug” and Dustin Currier and Samantha “Sam” and Joshua Simmons; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Gail Bowhall; 10 grandchildren, Matt, Kylie, Abby, Lexi, Mazie, Riley, Carter, Bell, Kevin and Alyshia./ppThere will be no calling hours or funeral services for Lee. Chartrand, 85, of Beaver Falls Road, passed away at his home on Wednesday afternoon, March 30, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. /ppA memorial service, with Military Honors, for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Pastor Bruce Chartrand officiating. A gathering at the Croghan American Legion will immediately follow the Memorial Service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Riverside Cemetery Annex. /ppHe is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Dolores; his children, Renee and Jeffrey Duflo of New Bremen; Michelle and Robert Bowman of Beaver Falls; Stephen Chartrand and his companion, Tammy Widrick of Croghan; a sister-in-law, Barbara Chartrand of East Greenbush, NY; seven grandchildren, Brittney Duflo; Garrett Duflo and his wife, Ashley; Bryanne Bowman; Colby Bowman; Keegan Bowman; Brandon Chartrand; and Andrew Chartrand; nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his siblings, Florence McNamara; Gerald Chartrand; Clifford Chartrand; Angeline Holbrook; Rita Funda; Lawrence Chartrand; Paul Chartrand; and Francis Chartrand./ppRaymond was born on November 6, 1930 in Indian River, NY, a son of the late Stephen and Myrtle Terry Chartrand. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1947, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1948 until 1952, serving for 11 months in Korea during the Korean War. After his service, Mr. Chartrand worked for Lehman and Zehr Lumber and Zehr Lumber Company for over two years. In 1955, he joined the Carpenter’s Union, Local 278, Watertown, NY, and worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway for a number of years. On April 21, 1956, he married Dolores Mahar at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Indian River. Mr. Chartrand then began his employment with Davis-Fetch Acoustical, Inc., Syracuse, where he worked for 39 years until his retirement in 1990./ppMr. Chartrand was a member of Beaver River Memorial Post #1663, American Legion, in Croghan. He was a member of the Desert Swamp Hunting Club for 48 years. pKurt H. Thurheimer, 44, of Adams Center, NY, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2016. Born April 20, 1971, he was the son of Dean H. and Patricia J. Thurheimer. He was raised in Adams Center and attended South Jefferson Central Schools./ppKurt was active in Webelos, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts growing up. He was an avid and proficient drummer, and was offered a scholarship to play his drums./ppKurt spent time living in Durham, NC, Boston, MA, and Sacramento, CA, before returning to Adams Center several years ago. He attended Sacramento City College, and earned an NCCER Core Level I and OSHA card from BOCES to become a certified electrician. His jobs have included working as a waiter, a construction crew foreman, a river rafting guide, and at Dry Hill Ski area. /ppKurt loved the outdoors and spent much of his time camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, climbing, and skiing. His favorite activity of the last few years was kayaking. He loved professional and college sports, especially basketball and football, and was a dedicated Steelers fan his whole life./ppKurt is survived by his father, Dean, of Adams Center, three sisters and a brother-in-law, Katherine Thurheimer and Michael Eichner of Rochester, NY, Keira Thurheimer of Adams Center, and Karen Thurheimer of Sackets Harbor, NY, and a brother Kenneth, of Chapel Hill, NC. He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia, and a brother, Eric./ppKurt had a wonderful sense of humor, and was best known for his entertainment skills and making people laugh. pDeferiet - Antoinette D. “Donna” Schneider, 94, formerly of 35 Riverside Drive, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, in the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Carthage Area Hospital where she has resided for two years./ppShe was born in Deferiet on January 16, 1922, the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Guseppina Tripodi Gerace. She attended Deferiet and Carthage High School, graduating in 1939. She married Vincent J. Schneider Sr. on January 11, 1947 at St. Rita’s Church in Deferiet. Mr. Schneider died on May 13, 1987. Donna worked in the cutter room at the St. Regis Paper Company in Deferiet, many years ago./ppShe was a member of St. Rita’s Church and a former member of the Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary. /ppShe is survived by her son: Vincent J. Schneider Jr. of Deferiet, a sister: Kathryn Palladino of Carthage and nieces and nephews. pMary Louise Leacy Crooks, 79, of Spotsylvania County departed for the Father’s house Thursday, February 18, 2016. She was preceded in death by her son Michael J. Leacy Crooks, and she was the youngest child of the late Henry and Marguerite LaRocque of Watertown, N.Y. She is survived by her two daughters, Sr.MaryJo Crooks of Little Sisters of the Poor of Philadelphia and Kathleen Reed of Stafford County; two grandchildren, Taylor Reed and Evelyn Reed; and several nieces and nephews. A great religious woman who put her trust in God with all her heart, she believed strongly hat God would provide “we just need faith.” She worked hard all of her life to provide for her family and friends and was not afraid to give her all. A Mass of Christian Burial was Celebrated 3 p.m. Friday, February 26,2016 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8200 Robert E. Lee Drive, Spotsylvania, VA 22551. Miller, 56, of Rensselaer Falls, will be held on Wednesday, April 6 2016 at Christian Fellowship Center in Madrid NY beginning at 5 p.m. /ppMrs. Miller passed into the arms of the Lord on March 28, 2016 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg./ppBorn on May 25, 1959 she was the daughter of Henry and Esther Constantine. Val, as she liked to be called, graduated from Spaulding High School in Quincy MA before she attended Eastern Nazarene College. Val worked a number of jobs over the years. They ranged from Camp Ground supervisor to cleaning services. During all the years she spent working outside the home, she maintained and excelled at her two most important jobs inside the home. She was a nurturing and selfless mother to her three sons, and a loving and devout wife to her husband./ppVal married Ernie Miller on October 10, 1978. The marriage lasted for 37 years and was an inspiration to those who were blessed to be a part of it. Val believed strongly that a marriage required hard work and love mixed with faith and sacrifice. She exemplified all of these things and did so willingly and without fail. She was a true testimony to the things the Bible said a wife could be. She taught her family what love was./ppVal loved many things and people. Her faith in the Lord inspired people and the food from her garden fed them. Her handmade quilts and blankets blessed so many young children she never even met. She was selfless day and night. She will be remembered by her friends and family for her unfailing desire to please the Lord and putting others before herself. She attended Christian Fellowship Center in Madrid, NY. She was an active member in the ministry and she’ll be remembered fondly for her unrelenting dedication to “Bagel Sunday.”/ppVal was survived by her Husband, Ernie, her 3 Sons, Joshua (& wife Kristin), Ernie (& wife Heather) and Jesse Miller as well as her mother, Esther. Val had 5 grandchildren that she spoiled as long as she could, Cora, Ella, Cohen, Paige and Kaleb. Her adoration of them all was surpassed only by their love for her./ppWe miss you Val. pNORWOOD— Funeral services with Military Honors for 76 year old Edward F. “Eddie” McCauley, a resident of 12 Cottage Street, Norwood, will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Church with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mr. McCauley passed away Thursday evening at Canton Potsdam Hospital with his family at his side./ppEdward is survived by his wife of 49 years Sharon; his son, John and Jessica McCauley, Malone; his two daughters; Mary and Joe Weir, Massena; and Amy and Duane Haught, Norfolk, his eight grandchildren, Madison, Joe, Garrett, Jordan and Ella Weir, Alissa and Ryleigh McCauley, and Alexis Haught as well as several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his two brothers, James and Thomas./ppBorn in Jersey City, NJ on August 6, 1939 to the late James and Mary McKenon McCauley. Edward graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School in 1959 and continued his education at the RCA School of Technology receiving his Bachelor’s Degree. He served in the United States ARMY from 1963-1965. He married Sharon M. Cota on January 28, 1967. Eddie worked as an electronics technician, operating Ed’s T.V. as well as working for the Hi-Fi Shop and Northern Music and Video. In his earlier years, Ed worked at the Norwood Post Office and lately, was proud to be associated with Rose Hill in Massena as a counselor. He was member of St. Andrews Church and the K of C. Eddie was also a member of the Norwood American Legion in which he was a past commander. He was also a past member of the DAV, the Norwood Fire Department, the Norwood Kiwanis Club and the Raripaco Hunting Club. He was a past Boy Scout Leader and Little League Coach. Eddie took a lot of pride in collecting toys for the Neighborhood Center, fixing some of them and making sure the local children enjoyed the Christmas season. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and had a passion for model trains. Memorial Donations in his memory can be made to the Norwood Neighborhood Center, the Potsdam Rescue Squad- Norwood Unit and the Norwood American Legion. She married Bruce Simmons in September of 1969 at St. Anthony’s Church in Yorkville, NY./ppNancy is survived by her husband, Bruce Simmons; a daughter, Wendy Simmons Parker & Mike Parker, and grandson, Trey Zehr of Evans Mills; brother and sister-in-law, Albert & Judy Wagner, Rome, NY; brother-in-law, Frank Krol, Old Forge, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
