LaComb, 59 of 22491 Alexandria St. Road, died Friday, April 1, 2016 at her residence after being stricken in her sleep./ppRobin was born in Watertown on June 2, 1956, the daughter of the late Henry W. and Elsie R. Booth Mack. She attended local schools. She married Kevin M. LaComb on December 14, 1974 at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage. She was a homemaker. /ppShe is survived by her husband, Kevin M. LaComb Sr. of Carthage, one daughter: Sandra LaComb of Maine, one son: Kevin M. LaComb Jr. of Carthage, 5 Grandchildren, 3 brothers: Charles and Ronald Mack, both of Felts Mills and Phillip Mack of Watertown and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A grandson, Hayden LaComb died on March 7, 2006. /ppMemorial services will be held on Monday, April 4th at 1:00pm at the Carthage Mennonite Church, County Rt. # 45. There will be no calling hours. pWatertown- Theresa J. Robinson, Watertown, passed away Wednesday, March 30th at the Samaritan Medical Center following a brief illness. She was 87 years old./ppBorn in Plattsburgh February 22, 1929, she was a daughter to Lyman and Dora Livernois Howe. She attended Plattsburgh High School. She married the late Merril B. Anderson on May 20th, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Church. Mr. Anderson passed away March 11th, 1977./ppTheresa worked as a factory worker for Cheseborough Ponds (Sherwood Medical) for over 20 years. For many years she enjoyed playing darts on a team at the Calcium Grange. She also belonged to the American legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 61, & enjoyed marching in many local past parades./ppAbove all else, Theresa enjoyed attending church, her dog, & spending time with her family./ppSurvivors include sons Keith Howe, Plattsburgh, NY, Jeffrey Anderson & his companion Vicki Dobransky, Rodney Anderson, Mark Anderson & his companion Candy Grandjean, all of Watertown, NY & a daughter Cynthia (Leslie) Filiatrault, Antwerp, NY, and grandchildren Scott & Todd Anderson, Melanie Jordaens, Chelsea Jennings, Kylie, Travis, & Shane Gerken. Surviving also are several great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews./ppShe is predeceased by a son, Brian Anderson, daughter, Kathy Gerken, brother, Rodney Howe, sisters, Catherine “Dolly” Martel, & Mary Carpenter./ppThere will be no calling hours or funeral. pJames G. Wilson, age 71, life resident of Richland, passed away peacefully Thursday at his home surrounded by his family. James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. James was born November 22, 1944 in Syracuse, the son of John and Emma Rogers Wilson. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1962, and he served in the United States Navy from 1962 until 1966. James was married to Cynthia Prins for 43 years. Together they owned and operated two businesses in the heart of Richland, Wilson’s Red & White for over 50 years, and the Richland Hotel for 40 years. James sponsored and was well known, for the longest running undefeated Sunday softball team “Wilson’s” (earning him the nickname of “Steinbrenner”) and Sunday Football team, both of which were the Richland Hotel’s biggest trademarks over the years. /ppJames coached Minor League and Little League baseball while his sons were growing up. In later years he sponsored the Little League team, Wilson’s Red & White. He was an avid sports fan. James was also a Fire Commissioner for the Richland Fire Department for several years. James, along with his wife, loved the warmth of the sunshine and the ocean and enjoyed vacations to the Caribbean. /ppSurviving are his wife, Cynthia, two sons, Bruce Wilson of Liverpool and Jason (Lisa) Wilson of Henrietta, three daughters, Alyson (Tom) Tighe of Pulaski, Ashleigh Wilson of Pulaski, and Bethany (Tim) Mosher of Webster, one brother, David (Carol) Wilson of Kill Devil Hills, NC, two sisters, Nancy Wilson of Liverpool and Sue Wilson of Syracuse, 11 grandchildren, Jacob, Luke, Nora, Emma, Ezra, Zoe, Imogen, Ruby, A.J., Brooke, and Tyler, and several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by two brothers William and John Wilson. /ppA Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home 52 Park Street, Pulaski. Wesley and Marjorie Aldrich Marselis. He graduated from General Brown Central High School in 1961. After leaving school he entered the Navy Reserves from 1961-1965./ppHe married Linda Patrick on August 17,1963./ppGordon worked for Marine Midland Bank for 28 years.He then accepted a position as Vice President at the Central National Bank, Canajoharie,N.Y. He retired in 1998. After retiring he and his wife moved to The Villages in Florida.They recently moved back to Brownville due to his ill health./ppHe was a former member of the Lions Club, Rotary and March of Dimes./ppGordon enjoyed boating on the St. Lawrence River,golfing ,spending time with his dog Libby and smoking his favorite cigars./ppSurviving are his wife Linda; a daughter, Julee Petersen, Watertown;a son and his wife, Greg and Julia Marselis, Sackets Harbor; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Trudy Marselis; a sister Theo Holder, Hornell and a sister and brother-in-law Leah and Gary Brass, St. Michael, Minnesota./ppA memorial service will be held at 4 P.M. pRussell - Alvin Elting “Al” Bassett passed away March 29, 2016 at his home in Russell, NY, of an apparent heart attack./ppBorn in 1921 in New York City to Leon Arthur and Lillian Westervelt Bassett, formerly of Gouverneur, NY./ppHe is survived by his loving children, Robert A. (Lynn Hill-Rance) of Jensen Beach, Florida, and Bonnie Bassett-Lawrence (Jay Lawrence) of Tampa, Florida; his beloved sister Marilyn Knight (Gene Knight, deceased), formerly of Russell, NY, now of Canton, Georgia, and his nephew and niece (Marilyn’s children) Steven Rice (Nancy, deceased) and their daughter, Heather, also of Canton, Georgia, and Holly (Rice) and Lonnie Weaver of Gouverneur, NY./ppOther survivors include his grandson Robert Tyler Bassett (Robert Bassett and Marilyn Bassett parents) of Jensen Beach, Florida; grandson Charles Robert Lawrence and granddaughter Samantha Jane Lawrence (Bonnie and Jay Lawrence parents) of Tampa./ppAl was married twice, to Ann McDonald of Ayr, Scotland, the mother of his children, and to the former Grace Davis of Syracuse, New York and both preceded him in death./ppAl was honorably discharged from the United States Army Air Corps as a Sergeant. He served as a medic during World War II and was stationed in Cherbourg, France, on D-Day. His job was to take the wounded soldiers from Normandy via plane to England for care in the hospital. He was shot down by enemy ground fire three times. After crash landing near American lines, he was picked up the last time by the Belgian underground. At the end of the war, he was awarded the Purple Heart./ppAl loved to fish and camp, especially at Huckleberry Lake. He was a craftsman, building his own home in Texas with the help of his brother-in-law Gene Knight of Russell, NY. He loved to build things – clocks, furniture and decorative items for his house. He could fix or mend anything, a gift handed down by his father, Leon. Al was an excellent cook, well known for his deviled eggs./ppThe family would like to thank Rosemary “Rosie” Allen of Edwards, NY, who was a good friend and companion to Al in the last year or so of his life. The family also would like to thank the friends at Russell Attwater Housing who were kind and helpful, especially Richard Knox of Russell. /ppPer Al’s request, there will be no calling hours or services. He will be cremated and his ashes spread at Huckleberry Lake this summer, with a little saved to be spread at his parents’ gravesite in Richville, NY. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur./p

Jacobs, 81, of 1348 State Route 37, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake, NY, where she had been admitted March 27, 2016./ppMargaret was born August 17, 1934 in Syracuse, daughter of the late Phillip H. and Sarah M. Tarbell. She graduated from Bombay High School, as well as Mater Dei and North Country Community College. She married Richard Allen Jacobs on October 25, 1952 at the St. Regis Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Jacobs officiating. Richard predeceased her on April 8, 1999./ppMargaret worked for the Akwesasne Library and Cultural Center for over 30 years, first as the Librarian, and then as Director, until her retirement. She then moved to Tucson, AZ for ten years, before returning in 2006. After her return to Akwesasne, she worked part-time at the Library and Cultural Center continuing to enjoy her passion./ppShe was a member of the St. Regis Catholic Church, Kateri Circle and the Akwesasne Senior Citizens. She loved baseball, especially her beloved NY Yankee’s, and was especially fond of her trip to Italy./ppMargaret is survived by her three daughters, Maxinne A. Jacobs and her husband Mike Benitez of Colorado; Joy L. Smith of Arizona; and Michelle T. Williams of Saranac Lake; one son, R. Brian “Zek” and Margaret Jacobs of Akwesasne; two grandchildren, Shawn Smith, and Sara McDonald and her companion Steve Oakes; three great grandchildren, Kashtin, Kassadi, and Kennadi; five sisters, Felicia and Hubert Jock; Dianne and Vaughn Aldrich; Rose Mary Bonaparte; and Rebecca and Irving Papineau; all of Akwesasne; and Janice Tallett of Fayatteville; and one brother, Phillip H. Tarbell Jr. and Darlene Drew of Akwesasne; an Aunt, Mae Tarbell of Akwesasne; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins./ppBesides her husband, she was also predeceased by her father Phillip on January 9, 1984; and her mother Sarah on September 17, 1988; and by her sister Phyllis H. David on April 28, 2001./ppFriends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Sunday 7-9 PM and on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the St. Regis Catholic Church. His parents George & Dora Wright and a brother Ernest Wright predeceased him./ppJim was born on Feb 5, 1948 in Ogdensburg NY to George & Dora (Banford) Wright. He graduated from Heuvelton Central and enlisted in the US Army from 1967 – 1973. A marriage to Ms. Dale Finley on July 20, 1969 later ended in divorce, and he again found love with Catherin Lanphear who later passed away on Oct 16, 1994./ppDuring his career he worked as a supervisor at Hoosier Magnetics in Ogdensburg until he became disabled. He was a member of the Ogdensburg VFW, Ogdensburg Moose and Am Vets in Ogdensburg and Heuvelton. /ppHe enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, socializing with his friends at the VFW, golfing, hunting and traveling. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, driving truck for years for several companies to include Dairylea, Boise Cascade and Jim Stockwell Trucking. For the last several years, Dave has been close with the Hamilton family at Hamilton’s Body Shop in Adams Center, spending most of his time helping with various tasks that needed doing at the shop./ppDave married Darlene R. Gibbs, December 12, 1967. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor had previously resided in Ellisburg for 28 years. Mrs. Taylor passed away November 24th, 2012./ppDave was a member of the Teamsters Union. McAvoy, 84, of 35206 Conroy Dr., passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016, in the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center./ppJohn was born in Theresa on June 29, 1931, the son of the late James William and Lillian Mae Bacon McAvoy. He attended schools in Evans Mills and Watertown. He married the former Holly O’Dell on September 25, 1982 in the United Community Church in Carthage with the Rev. John Bradley officiating. He started his career as a truck driver and manager of the Marcy Buck & Schuyler Coal Division from 1948-60, then Davidson Fuel from 1960-61 and then truck driver and manager of Cushman Concrete from 1961-1973. He owned and operated the former JonBoy’s Restaurant on Bradley St. Road in Watertown from 1973-78. He then became manager of CMT Transit Mix from 1978-1981 and finally he retired from Torrington Industries as manager of SLT Reddy Mix in Watertown in 1992. He enjoyed bowling./ppHe is survived by his wife, Holly of Carthage, two daughters: Mrs. Michael (Brenda) Connor of Gibsonton, FL and Mrs. Jonathon (Heather) Oatman of Carthage, five sons: David (Diane) McGraw of Dexter, Randy (Lori) McAvoy of Dexter, Steven McAvoy of Gastonia, NC and Jason McAvoy and Jordan McAvoy, both of Carthage, 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Luanne McAvoy of Watertown, three sisters: Mary Comins of Henderson, Edith Leddy of Great Bend and Flossie Edmonds of Tylerville and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son, Larry McAvoy, 2 sisters, Beatrice Burnup and Pauline McAvoy and 3 brothers, Glen, William and Paul McAvoy. /ppFuneral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home with Rev. She was predeceased by two sons, Robert James in 1997 and Michael John in 1994; and one brother, James Keech./ppMrs. Fowler was born on October 22, 1945 in Johnson City, NY, the daughter of James G. and Rosa B. Queiser Keech. She graduated from Vestal High School and Robert Packer School of Nursing in Sayre, PA where she received her RN license. She first worked for Willow Point Nursing Home in Vestal, NY for over 20 years. She and her husband moved to Fishers Landing. The couple later divorced but remained close friends./ppHe was employed as a union laborer for Local 66 in Farmingdale, Long Island, NY before moving to the North Country and working for Local 322 in Massena./pp“Joe” is survived by his four sons, Joe, Jr. (Trish) of Russell, Rick (Kim) DeVito of Rossie, David (Karen) of Russell and Carl of Russell; eighteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and his companion since 1989, Diane Risley./ppHe was a dedicated member of the Russell Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, where he answered numerous calls and was awarded the Fireman of the Year Award in 2008. He was also a Life Member of the National Rifle Assoc. and raised beef cattle.
