Peter J. Cullen, 61, Dexter, passed away Thursday, May 10th at his home with his family by his side.

Peter is survived by two sisters, Jeanne Cullen and Mary Martuzas, both of Watertown; his brother Mark Cullen, Chaumont; his nieces and nephews Chuck, Connie and Jesse Martuzas, Matt Eaton and Elizabeth O’Keefe; 8 great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Walter A. Cullen, Jr.
Peter was born in Watertown, October 19, 1956, a son to Walter A. and Florence Roberts Cullen. He spent his early years enjoying his time at the lake at Campbell’s Point. He was an avid New York Yankee and Dallas Cowboy fan.
Peter was known for a wonderful smile and cheerful disposition. He was a kind and loving soul who brought joy to all who knew him.

CHAMPION – Julie Fiaschetti, 63, of Line School Road, died on Friday, May 11, 2018 at home, under the loving care of her family and Jefferson County Hospice.
Julie was born on July 7, 1954 in Anchorage, Alaska, a daughter of James R. and Jeanne S. (Schermerhorn) Church. She graduated from Carthage Central School. She was employed as a Bus Driver for the Carthage School District, retiring after 37 years of service.
She is survived by three children, James “Jim” (Carolyn) Fiaschetti of Carthage; Jenna (Tyler) Adle of Maryland; Joseph Seymour of Carthage; a step-daughter, Margarita Petrie of Watertown; a step-son, Charlie Carr of Harrisville; four siblings, Becky Adkinson of Ohio; Charlotte Moore of Florida; Mary Eddy of Champion; Sandy Cannan of Natural Bridge and her long-time companion of Charlie Carr Sr. of Harrisville; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and of course, her faithful canine companion, Ceasar.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 9:00 AM in the Second United Methodist Church of Champion with Rev. Sung Ah Choi officiating. A memorial reception will immediately follow the service at the Champion Fire Hall. Burial will be held at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, Champion.

Beatrice E. Piper
Beatrice E. Piper, of Baker Road, Adams, passed away Thursday, May 10th at her home. She was 98 years old.
Beatrice was born on June 26, 1919 in Ellisburg, a daughter to Fred and Anna Eaton Cobb. She married Lyle D. Piper June 28, 1939 in Adams, NY. They owned and operated dairy farms in Ellisburg and Lorraine. Mr. Piper died April 17, 1985. Beatrice is survived by her children, Garfield (Larry) Piper, Adams; Gordon Piper, Mannsville; Mrs. Robert (Yvonne) Williams, Nevada; her brother, Charles Cobb, Ohio; 9 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by a grandson, Timothy Piper, a sister, Shirley Proctor and her brother Carl Cobb. Walter C. lacks
Walter C. Lacks, 93, of Norwood, NY succumbed to heart failure on Saturday, May 5. He was a man of faith, a teacher, an avid gardener, a missionary, an advocate for healthful living, a collector of priceless junk and devoted friends…a friend for life to all who shook his hand. Born in Gouverneur, NY and raised in Bergen County, NJ, Walter served in WWII as an x-ray technician and graduated from Emanuel Missionary College in 1950. After a 30-year teaching career in Arlington then Potsdam, NY, he embraced a life of service to others. In 1980, he and his wife, Doris, spent two years in Tanzania, renovating an abandoned mission farm for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He returned to Africa five more times serving as a college professor, builder of a hospital for the Masai people, speaker, and farmer. During his last trip, at age 90, he was instrumental in establishing an on-going program to feed breakfast to 500 school children.
He leaves a loving wife, Doris, six daughters, Elizabeth Jeanne Dailey of Corinth, NY, Janet Kuczynski of Saratoga Springs, NY, Judy Maddox of Redwood Valley, CA, Joy Miller of Paso Robles, CA and two stepdaughters, Sue Zelener of Redlands, CA and Lynn Elmendorf of Toledo, IA, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter Clarke and Mary Hockey Lacks and his brothers, Charles and Joseph, and sister, Jeanne Ritchie. He will be greatly missed by all.

Joan B. Gamble, 85 of Dexter, passed away Thursday May 10th at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown; where she has resided for a year.
Joan was born November 30, 1932 in Watertown the daughter of Francis and Orisa Walker Baldwin. She graduated from Dexter High School. She married Chester J. Gamble on July 28, 1951 at the Dexter Presbyterian Church. The couple lived on Pillar Point. She worked as an operator for New York Telephone and later was a bus-driver for General Brown Central School.
She was a Life member of American Legion Auxiliary in Dexter, Past Commander of VFW Auxiliary Post 1400, Watertown Elks Club, and Lil Angels Snowmobile Club. She enjoyed sewing, ice fishing, hunting and camping.
She is survived by her husband Chester and five children: Jody and Donald Paige of Brownville, Chester Gamble of Watertown, Billie and Fred McAdam of E. Aurora, NY, Gail and Richard Torres of Dexter and Timi and Jackie Gamble of Rome, NY. She has 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a brother Francis Baldwin of Kansas and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister Norma Bishop.

Sharon was born on October 28, 1941 in Harrisville, NY, the daughter of Joseph and Berta Reader Langs. She graduated from Harrisville Central School and went on to graduate from Canton ATC with an Associate’s Degree. Sharon married Donald Fuller on May 20, 1961, at the Harrisville Methodist Church. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for the Hallmark Nursing Centre in Carthage, NY.

Donald H. Steen
Donald H. Steen, 83, of Pierrepont, passed away on May 8, 2018 at his home.
Donald was born August 8, 1934 in Lisbon, New York, the son of the late Thomas and Agnes (Martin) Steen. Donald attended school till he was of age to join the ARMY, which he did and made a career of, retiring in 1971. Upon his return from service, he built a small cabin in Clare and lived off the grid for many years. Donny liked to be by himself, although he had lots of friends. He would keep an eye on all the local hunting camps in the area, while living in Clare.
Later on, as he became unable to manage being off the grid, he relocated to Pierrepont. Donny was a quiet and very humble man, who loved his family and friends.
Donny is survived by a brother, Francis Steen of Clyde, NY; a sister, Ruby Rexford of Canton and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his twin brother, Thomas Steen; Vernon Steen and a sister, Cora Besaw.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 16th at 2:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton with Bill Huckle, officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Road Cemetery.

Mary C. Cassidy
HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Mary C. Cassidy, 73, of 261A Osborne Rd., Harrisville, died peacefully following a long battle with health matters, on May 4, 2018 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC.
Born on June 30, 1944 in Ogdensburg, NY, a daughter of John J. and Dorothy Helen (Arquette) Netto, she was a 1962 graduate of Watertown High School. In 1963, she graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown with an LPN Degree.
She married Thomas H. Cassidy on September 21, 1984 in St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown.
After obtaining her LPN Degree, Mary worked as a licensed practical nurse at the Madonna Home in Watertown, and later accepted a nurse’s position at Mercy Hospital in Watertown where she worked for a number of years. Her last position in her nursing career was working as a hospice nurse for Jefferson County Hospice travelling throughout the county taking care of terminally ill patients. She retired in 1999 after 36 years of faithful service.
Mary was a communicant of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Harrisville, and was a member of the Lake Bonaparte Chapter of the Red Hat Society, as well as the Tuesday Night Girl’s Group in Harrisville.
Mary will be remembered for being a wonderful visitor, especially on the phone, who always stayed in touch with family and friends. She loved wintering with her husband in their condo in North Myrtle Beach, SC, and spending time with her brother and sister-in-law who wintered nearby.
In addition to her loving husband, “Tom” of almost 34 years, she is survived by her son, Robert Lynch of Moravia, NY; two grandsons, Bobby and Kevin; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert (Addie) Netto, and Anthony (Denise) Netto, all of Watertown, and Robert Netto, of Syracuse; her sister, Elizabeth Thompson, of Watertown, and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her brother-in-law, Gary Thompson, and her former sister-in-law, Judy Netto.
Mary’s funeral will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. family Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, 14187 State St., Harrisville, followed by a 10:30 Mass of Christian Burial from St. Francis Solanus Church, Harrisville, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Harrisville Community Cemetery, Harrisville. All are invited to attend a funeral luncheon which will be held in the church’s Social Hall after Mary’s burial.

Anna Mae Searles Cooper
Anna Mae Searles Cooper, 85 Adams Center, passed away Saturday, May 12th at her home.
The funeral service will be 12 noon on May 15th at Trinity Episcopal Church, 227 Sherman St., Watertown. Burial will be private in Brookside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown.
Anna Mae is survived by her only son, Robert Searles Cooper (Michele), Benbrook, TX; a granddaughter Colleen Cooper, Benbrook, TX; 2 great granddaughters Hannah and Macey, Texas; a brother Kermit G. Searles II (Elizabeth), Adams Center and her dear friend Sandra Haight of Adams Center; many nieces and nephews and her dear Pug, Honey. She was predeceased by her parents and a nephew Kermit G. Searles, III. Also, as a teacher, she leaves behind many students she referred to as “my kids”. A marriage to Robert P. Cooper ended in divorce.
She was born at Mercy Hospital, Watertown, December 17, 1932, a daughter to Kermit and Ellen R. Searles. Anna Mae attended Adams Center School from 1st grade through 12th. Following her graduation in 1950, she left for Potsdam State Teachers College, graduating with her teaching certificate in 1954.
Anna Mae started her teaching career in September of 1954, teaching 4th grade in the Adams Center school. She watched it change from Adams Center to the South Jefferson Central School District. She retired in 1988 after 34 years teaching 4th grade. She was well known for the 3 F’s...fair, firm and forthright.
Anna Mae was very athletic and was the first woman in Adams to bowl a 600 triple at the Adams Bowling Lanes. She was a golfer and winner of the Women’s Member Guest at Tomacy’s Golf Club. She was a member of Tomacy’s Golf Club, Ives Hill in Watertown, and Thendara Golf Club.
An avid reader, she could always be found with a book in her hand, most often about history. She loved people and will be remembered for her warm smile. She was an avid talker and could be found talking to anyone who would talk to her.
Enjoying the outdoors was her passion. She spent many seasons in her log cabin in Thendara, NY. To her, each spring was like going home again. Thendara and Old Forge were like a second home with many friends.
Anna Mae is a member of Trinity Episcopal Church on Sherman St. where she was baptized as an infant.
Anna Mae would like to thank her Trinity family who have been there for her. Many Thanks. Also, many thanks to the women of Hospice who gave their time and expertise to assure she was well cared for and comfortable, especially Sue Munson. Thanks to dear friends and neighbors, Rachael and Scott Johnson, who made sure she was well fed and comfortable. Rachael often walked “Honey” when needed.

Bruce N. Beattie
Bruce N. Beattie, 70, of Clayton and formerly of Watertown passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Rochester General Hospital surrounded by his family.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 214 Sterling St., Watertown on Tuesday, May 15, from 3 - 7PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 16, at 10:30AM at St. Mary’s Church, 521 James St., Clayton with Revs. Frances Pompei and J. Michael Gaffney co-officiating followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Bruce was born May 20, 1947 in Long Branch, NJ, son of Roswell P. and Musetta M. O’Neill Beattie, Jr. He was a graduate of Immaculate Heart Academy in 1965 and of Oswego State.
On May 23, 1970 he married Cynthia Sboro at St. Anthony’s Church, Watertown with Revs. John Pendergast and Robert McGrath co-officiating.
For 30 years he worked for the Dept. of NYS, Taxation and Finance in Syracuse and from 1989 to 1994 he was the business administrator for St. Patrick’s Church, Watertown. In 1996 the couple moved to Clayton and he was the owner and operator of both Attilio’s Scenic Inn and Attilio’s Pizza.
Bruce was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. His greatest love was his family and his ministry to the Franciscan Mystery Players, which he directed for over 40 years. All of his children and three of his grandchildren have had the privilege of participating in his ministry with him. He enjoyed boating, skiing, woodworking, and carpentry.
Along with his wife, Cynthia Sboro Beattie, Bruce is survived by his four children and their spouses, Michele and Aaron Capone, Watertown, Sarah and Christopher Leone, Penfield, Peter and Molly Beattie, Clayton and Paul and Donna Beattie, Cape Coral, FL ; eight grandchildren, Johanna and Allyson Capone, Jacob and Samuel Leone, and Luca, Eva, Reese, and Ross Beattie; brother and his wife, Phillip and Janice Beattie, Clayton; two aunts; nephew, Matthew and Mary Pat Beattie and niece, Laura and Bob Kec, and numerous cousins.

Rollin A. Beattie
NORWOOD – A Mass of Christian Burial for 78 year old Rollin A. Beattie, a resident of 28 Depot Street, Norwood, will be held Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Church in Norwood with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery in Norwood following the services. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mr. Beattie passed away Monday morning, May 14, 2018 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Rollin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet, Norwood; a son William Beattie, Norwood; two daughters, Susan and Finbarr O’Hea, Avon, Massachusetts; Carolyn and Brent Pierce, Rotterdam, NY; his four grandchildren, Brandon Beattie, Kathleen and Tara O’Hea and Harper Pierce; a brother Lawrence Beattie as well as several nieces and nephews. Rollin was pre-deceased by his parents and a brother Joseph “Keith” Beattie.
Born at his family home in Louisville, NY on August 27, 1939 to the late John and Mary Brady Beattie, Rollin graduated from Massena Central School in 1959. He worked as a truck driver for Barrett’s for 20 years and then worked for SUNY Potsdam as a project manager, overseeing various construction projects and retiring after several years. Rollin was very active in his local community as he was a member of the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee, a member of the Potsdam Town Board, the current Potsdam Town Supervisor and a member of the Baldwin Acres Board of Directors. Rollin was also active with St. Andrew’s Church where he was a communicant of and he was also a member of the K of C. Rollin enjoyed politics and visiting with his friends. He also at one time volunteered his time driving for St. Lawrence County Elderly. Debra L. Aubrey
Port Leyden: Debra L. Aubrey, 66, of 7052 West Main St. died Sunday, May 13 in Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse where she had been a patient for one week.
She was born June 14, 1951 In Lowville, the daughter of Stanley M. and Delia R. McDougall Mooney and attended South Lewis School in Turin
She grew up in Lyonsdale and had lived in Port Leyden most of her adult life. .
She married Glenn Ludwikowski Dec. 21, 1974 in Port Leyden. He died June 17, 1993. She married John Aubrey Sept. 30, 2000 in Port Leyden. He died Feb. 19, 2010.
She enjoyed baking, playing Yahtzee, spending time with her grandchildren and her mother. She loved classic country music and bingo.
She is survived by four sons David Ludwikowski, Port Leyden, Brian and Tracy Ludwikowski , McMinnville, Tenn.; Scott Ludwikowski and his companion Kelly Bourgeois, Boonville and Scott Ludwikowski and his companion Dana Hirschey Port Leyden. Her mother Delia Brooks, Lyons Falls and her fiancee Jake Emerson, Port Leyden and eight grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers and sister-in-laws, Randall and Jan Mooney and Lyndon and Cindy Mooney, Terry and Chris Mooney all of Lyons Falls and Jamie and Mary Brooks, Lee Center; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins. Also four special friends Pam McCauley, Sandy Riley, Lowell and Darren Dexter. She is predeceased by her father and an infant sister Janice.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 until 7 at the Callaghan Funeral Home LLC, Port Leyden.
The funeral will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Stephen V. Bolin, Sr. of the New Covenant Church, Port Leyden officiating.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Port Leyden Fire Dept .A funeral reception will be held in the Port Leyden Fire Hall immediately following the burial. Food donations may be dropped off after 10:00 am at the hall.
