Mary was the Valedictorian of her high school graduating class and furthered her education at Central Missouri State College in Kansas City, MO./ppMary Moved to Watertown as young woman. She married Floyd T. Welbourn September 17, 1944 at the First Baptist Church in Watertown. Mr. Welbourn passed away December 9th, 1951. She later married Chauncey R. Lambert in February of 1954. Mr. Lambert passed in May of 1994./ppMary worked for the Welcome Wagon of Watertown, later becoming the Executive Director of the Jefferson Co. Association for Mental Health for 25 years. After leaving that position, she became Executive Director for the Jefferson Co. Committee on Alcoholism, becoming the first recipient of the Gerald A. DeGroot Memorial Award for dedicated service./ppMrs. Lambert was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Group, a board member for North Country Transitional Living; she served on the Advisory Board at Mercy Hospital and was a member of the House of the Good Samaritan Auxillary./ppMary is a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Bible study group and the church’s women’s group. She served with the church missions until her health no longer permitted. Mary was a former member of the First Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for 60 years. After her schooling, she moved to New Jersey, where she worked as a telephone operator. On November 23, 1957, she married Dennis N. Spann at the Turin Methodist Church parsonage, with Rev. Leon Bundy officiating. Joanne raised her family, and together with her husband, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on the West Road in Martinsburg for many years. She worked for Greystone Manor Restaurant, before working at The Central Hotel until her retirement./ppJoanne was a member of the Lowville Red Hatters, the Valley Homemakers, and the Lowville Senior Citizens. He has written several poems and short stories, and has travelled worldwide, sharing his poetry. pSLATEVILLE, N.Y. B. Martin Warner, “the mayor” of Slateville, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the age of 77./ppHe was born on the family farm in Slateville (Hebron) on May 2, 1938, the son of Bernice “Bernie” S. and Dorothy (Park) Warner./ppHis education began in a one room schoolhouse in North Hebron, where he was taught by Mrs. Rena Beaty. He graduated in 1956 from Washington Academy in Salem./ppAs a youth, Marty worked on the farm before embarking on his career as a truck driver, hauling logs for his father. From there he went on to drive for Yorkmont Slate and then Bray Oil company. Marty worked for the next ten years hauling baby powder for Dameo Trucking. He finished his professional driving career by hauling oil, cement, and propane for Fort Edward Express. His CB handle back in the day was “The Hebron Rebel.”/ppMarty lived his entire life in Hebron (Slateville) and was proud to have served 20 years on the Hebron Town Board and two years on the Planning Board. He remained passionate about politics and planned to support “anybody but Hillary” in the upcoming Presidential election./ppHe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan (Call) Warner; sons, Timothy (Joanne) Warner of Slateville and Thomas (Lori) Warner of Queensbury. He was blessed with three grandchildren, Michelle Wilson (Will), Jennifer Warner and Brian Warner; as well as two great-grandchildren: Zachariah and Madelaine Wilson. Marty is also survived by a brother, John Warner (Diane) of Heuvelton, N.Y.; and a sister, Myra Dennison of Hebron, N.Y., his in-laws, David Call (Lynn), Grace Hamlin (Bill), Philip Call (Lourdes) and Richard Call (Lorraine); as well as several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in the East Riverside Cemetery. Robin was born on May 8, 1956 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Herbert and Faith (Foeppel) Rookey. He attended elementary school in Brasie Corners and graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1974. Robin worked in the mill at St. Joe Minerals Corp out of high school, worked for the New York Air Brake for 22 years, and in the calibration department at Corning Inc.’s Canton plant. Later in life he went back to school, to study Radiological Technology at the North Country Community College. Robin was married to Carol Kelley for 19 years. He was a social person who loved to talk, had a good sense of humor, and could make friends anywhere./ppHe loved being outdoors hiking, hunting and fishing. Robin was a caregiver for his mother when she was ill and he had a very kind heart. He enjoyed tinkering on cars, such as his first vehicle a 1968 red Camaro that he took pride in. Robin rode motorcycles and loved spending time with his family, especially to eat “vittles”./ppHis survivors include three daughters and their spouses, Amanda Rookey and Mark Hausner, Rebecca and Tom Bissonette, April and Nick Ovitt; his sister, Pamela and Dale Freeman; and his brother, Michael and Elke Rookey. Thrana Sr., 83, of State Route 310, Raymondville, passed away Saturday evening, April 16, 2016, in Burlington Vermont, at the University of Vermont Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family./ppBen was born January 7, 1933 in Norway, to the late Peder and Gerda (Olsen) Thrana./ppAt 14 years old, Ben joined the Norwegian Merchant Marines, training on the Christian Radich. After training, he worked on cargo ships traveling the world. He would dock in Brooklyn, NY, where he met his future loving wife of 63 years, Jane Lockhart. They married on February 16, 1953 in North Carolina./ppBen joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany during his service under General Patton, Hell on Wheels Tank Unit. He finished his service as a Corporal, and he became a U.S. citizen when stationed in Germany./ppBen was a business owner in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning for 30 years in NY City. He moved to Raymondville with his family in 1975 to go into farming. During these years, he owned and operated a grocery/gas business and restaurant in Raymondville. He also owned a commercial restaurant supply business until his retirement in 1998./ppBen was active in sports throughout his life. He was a speed skater, downhill skier, ski jumper and cross country skier and was captain of the Army ski team when he served. He also was a soccer player./ppBen is survived by his loving wife, Jane; and his two daughters, Karin and George Malone of Norfolk; and Helen and Steve LaPage of Raymondville; his three sons, Benedikt Thrana Jr., and his wife Boni, Erik Thrana, and Shawn Thrana, all of Raymondville; his nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter, and many relatives in Norway./ppBen was predeceased by a great grandson, Nathan Thrana Jr., on November 4, 2015/ppBen was a loving husband and father and will be dearly missed. Mitchell on Sept 10, 1960 at St. Anthony’s Church in Syracuse. She predeceased him in 2008./ppDuring his career he was employed at USDA in the Farmers Home Administration & Soil Conservation Departments, Iroquois Gas and River Village Realty. He retired in 1989. He was a member of the Canton FFA Alumni, Macomb & Kendrew Grange and St. Mary’s Church in Canton. /ppHe enjoyed going out to eat, fishing, visiting friends and family and traveling. pWith great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Jackie on April 13th, 2016, in Naples Florida. Loving wife of Colin of Saint-Anicet Qc, devoted mother to Deborah (Jean-Guy Corbeil) of Beaconsfield Qc and Susan (Mark Patterson) of Massena, NY. Also survived by her adored grand-children, Ryan Patterson (Megan), Eric Patterson (Raquel), Sarah Cope Corbeil and Julien Cope Corbeil and her cherished great-grand-son Riley Patterson.
