Barbara P. Newton
pBarbara P. Newton, who was admired and respected and loved by all who knew her, passed gently into spirit as Heaven’s door opened on April 9, 2016 in Zephyrhills, Florida with her loving son Frank by her side. /ppBarb was born on March 14, 1933 to Leigh and Alta Nichols Pickup of Gowanda, NY and was a loving sister to her brother Allen Pickup of Woodland, Colorado. Barb graduated from Cattaraugus Central School and then from Buffalo State Teachers College. /ppShe met and married Don Newton and they happily lived in Maple View for the rest of their married lives. Together they had a son Frank L. Newton. Together they were an avid motorcycle family—joining the Upstate Cruisers Motorcycle Club when Frank was just a teenager! Family was first and foremost with Barb and Don. They loved the outdoors. Frank still loves the outdoors and loves to fish—year round!/ppBarb joined the ranks of the Sandy Creek Central School Faculty as a Home Economics Teacher and taught three generations before her retirement. She was lovingly dedicated the Spade yearbook in 1985 and was just recently honored at the Alumni Banquet. As word of her passing reached so many, the sentiment was always the same—she had such a profound influence on our lives, from students, to parents, to faculty and staff and she helped ‘sew the fabric of our community’ together all those years. She was a good teacher, practical, caring, friendly, and helpful, a loyal friend, and a willing mentor to all. /ppAfter her retirement from SCCS, she happily wintered in her Florida community in Zephyrhills for over 24 years and developed strong friendships there as well. She was the Bingo President for over 20 years, she so loved it that she bought a home on Bingo Blvd.! She was active in the United Methodist Church and Victoria Chapter #205 of the Eastern Star and was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association. /ppIn lieu of flowers, Frank has requested that a scholarship be formed in his mother’s memory at Sandy Creek Central School, Dollars for Scholars, PO Box 248, Sandy Creek, NY 13145. He then worked for PACES at SUNY Potsdam as a maintenance man for 30 years. James enjoyed hunting and was very proud of his years spent as a member of the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member from 1960-1995 and served as chief from 1972-1974. James loved to spend time with his family. He was very proud of them and loved to share his thoughts of his family to his friends. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and it truly showed on his face when they visited him./p

Parkinson, 93, formerly of Massena, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where he had been a patient since November 2015./ppThomas was born November 24, 1922 in Louisville, son of the late Robert and Bertha Waldruff Parkinson. He was a 1942 graduate of Massena Central School. He proudly served the US Army from January 27, 1943, until he was honorably discharged on June 2, 1946./ppOn July 21, 1946, he married Helen K. Rowell at the First Baptist Church in Massena. She predeceased him on January 30, 1991. /ppTom worked as a shipping clerk at Alcoa for over 30 years. He was a member of the Earl J. Santimaw Post #1143 VFW and American Legion Post #79. Babcock, 84, went to his eternal home on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 with his wife and family by his side./ppWarren was born on January 16, 1932, in Albany, NY and was the son of William S. and Dorothy G. (McLuary) Babcock of Richmondville, NY. /ppHe graduated from the former Richmondville Central School in 1950 and later received his Pastoral Degree from Allentown Bible College in Allentown, PA. The Pilgrim Holiness Church of New York, Inc. ordained him. During his tenure as a pastor, he served churches in Amsterdam, Pierrepont Manor, Stone Ridge and East Worcester over a span of more than 35 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hiking, and camping. He is known for his unique sense of humor, which often included pranks and teasing./ppWarren married Wanda J. Dauley, also of Richmondville, on May 9, 1953. Together they had five children, Wendy Brush, Wayne D., William F. (Holly), Karen (James) Hinderliter, and Steve P. (Wendy) Babcock. She graduated from North Senior High School in 1943 with honors. She worked at Agfa-Ansco in Binghamton as a stenographer for 2 years. Then she married her beloved husband, Albert Buck Hibbert on January 27, 1946, shortly after his return home from WWII./ppShe is predeceased by her husband, Albert Buck Hibbert; parents, Sidney and Elsie Cline; brother, Sidney L. Cline, Jr; and sister, Rosemary Cline Hibbert./ppAlda is survived by her brother, Austin Landon Cline (wife, Marilyn) of Point Vivian, NY; her children Albert Buck Hibbert, Jr of Douglas, AZ and Oak Point/Hammond, NY; William Cline Hibbert (wife, Karolee) of Winthrop, NY; Helen Hibbert Moore (husband, Randy) of Yoncalla, OR; Bruce Davis Hibbert of Boulder, CO; and Linda Hibbert Weseman (husband, Doug) of Oroville, CA; and 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews./ppThroughout her life she enjoyed the beauty and relaxation of the family cottage at Point Vivian on the St Lawrence River. pSpencer Jeffrey Parsons, 24, of Adams Center was brought home with God on Wednesday morning, April 27, 2016. Spencer, born on December 3, 1991 was the oldest son of Byron J. and Lisa A. Parsons. He was the oldest brother to Hailey R. and Pearce A. Parsons. Spencer was a 2010 graduate from South Jefferson Central School. He attended Jefferson Community College on a McCann’s scholarship. After graduating from JCC with an Associate’s Degree in Science, he went on to graduate from Lemoyne College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Spencer shared a year of his life as a case manager with Jefferson Rehabilitative Center working with and supporting adults in our community. In September 2015, Spencer entered New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls and was pursuing a doctoral degree in Chiropractic medicine./ppSpencer loved sports and was a member of the soccer, basketball and golf teams at South Jefferson. He also played soccer and basketball for the JCC Cannoneers. Spencer’s shortened life cannot be defined by the accomplishments of what he did, or where he went to college. Spencer will be remembered for the quality of character he possessed. He was genuine, loving, caring, and charismatic. His smile, his humor, and his positive personality were infectious to all those around him. Spencer always tried to do his best and he always brought out the best in others./ppIn addition to his immediate family members, Spencer is survived by his paternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Barbara Parsons and his maternal grandfather, Frederick C. Marilyn Higgins McQuillen
pMarilyn Higgins McQuillen, 86, 14130 Rosemary Lane, Largo, Florida, formerly of Watertown died April 22, 2016 under the care of her family and Hospice at the Suncoast Hospice Care Center in Pinellas Park, FL. /ppMrs. McQuillen was born August 19, 1929 in Watertown the daughter of Perl E. and Wava Catherine Wheeler Consaul. She attended Sherman, Academy and Case Junior High School and graduated from Watertown High School in 1947. /ppDuring her years in Watertown prior to 1977, she was active in the House of Good Samaritan Auxiliary, served on the Board of Directors of the Cerebral Palsy Association and was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross. /ppAfter graduation from High School, Mrs. McQuillen was employed by the Brockway Company at Radio Station WWNY, she later worked at the School Board of Watertown, the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and the Jefferson County clerk’s office. After moving to Florida, she was an executive secretary at Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan and later worked in the legal division of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in Tampa and Atlanta, Ga., retiring from the FDIC in 1994. /ppShe was married to James W. Higgins by Reverend Fredrick Shue on April 30, 1949 at Holy Family Church Rectory, Watertown, NY. That marriage ended in divorce in 1970. Mr. Higgins passed away in 1992. She was married to Richard T. McQuillen by Reverend Robert Schneider on April 4, 1998 at Holy Family Church, St. Petersburg, FL after the couple reunited at their fiftieth high school reunion. Mr. McQuillen passed away in 2009. /ppSurviving are a daughter and her husband Deborah and Dennis Pearson, Cicero, NY, a son and his wife David and Karen Higgins, St. Petersburg, FL and six grandchildren, Daniel, Meghan and Jennifer Pearson and Frank, Andrea, Justin Higgins and his wife Tiffany. pDr. Harlow W. Dunton, 78, of Pulaski, passed away Wednesday, April 27 at home surrounded by family. He was the son of Louise and Lucian Dunton. Born in Queens County, NY, his family moved to the Pulaski area in 1951. He graduated from the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Buffalo and returned home to Pulaski in 1967 where he practiced dentistry for the next 55 years. 30 year member of Pulaski Lodge #415 F. & A. M./ppHe married Rita Rousseau Pfluger in 1974. He is survived by two brothers, James R. and Richard L., one sister, Lee (Richard) Langer, four step children, Mark Pfluger, Christine (Donald) Sperati, Brad Pfluger and Frederick Pfluger, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by one sister, Dale Williams./ppHe was an active Naval Reserve for 16 years. Mrs. Wilder passed on July 4, 2004./pp On September 7, 1950 he entered the US Air Force. He received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged as an Airman 2nd Class on January 19, 1954. For forty years he worked for Young’s Express as a truck driver and was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church./pp Vernon is survived by his daughter, Kim E. and Arthur W. Dyke, and son, Mark J. She predeceased him on January 18, 2007./ppWilfred was an Ironworker, Local #60, Syracuse, and when he was younger he worked various jobs with Seaway in Cornwall and did an apprenticeship as a carpenter’s helper.
