Larry “JOE” Jackson Jr passed away on June 1st 2019 in Hudson FL peaceful at home. He was born on September 19 1974 in Gouvernuer NY. He is survived by his wife Justine Jackson. He is also survived by his kids Corey and wife Laura Kirby CJ Anthony and Joshua LaBombard Kyle and Keisha Jackson. His grandchildren Destiney Kirby & Rosabella Carlin. His parents Roxanne & Doug Hopper. His in-laws Linda & Tony Doganis and Debbie Parnell. He is survived by his sisters and brother Rhonda Ronnie Jackson Vickie & Bryan Shenkman. His sister and brother in-laws Michelle & Teddy Doganis Chris Melissa & Katherine Parnell. He is also survived by many nephews nieces great nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by parents Larry & Gail Jackson Father in-law Clifford Parnell. His brother Dustin Hopper and sister-in-law Susie Skipper.

His life was all about truck driving and his family. He will be dearly missed by all who he touched.

Weldon “Paul” Wells

GOUVERNEUR – Weldon “Paul” Wells, age 87, of Gouverneur, passed away on June 2, 2019 at the Gouverneur Hospital.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 1 – 3 and 6 – 8 p.m. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 8th at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Paul was born on April 1, 1932 in Gouverneur to the late Clifford and Margaret (Peck) Wells. He attended the one-room schoolhouse on Little Bow Road and Gouverneur High School where he was active in the 4-H and a member of the track team. He also played in the rural basketball league.

Paul was a member of the New York National Guard at the Ogdensburg Armory and trained at Pine Camp and Fort Belvore, Va. He married Phyllis J. Fields on August 14, 1955. This year was their 63rd year of marriage.

Mr. Wells had worked for area farms and the Gouverneur Co-op before becoming a truck driver at the age of 18. He drove for several area trucking companies, drove as an independent owner for nearly 20 years, 8 years for Potters’ Inc, and retired from Wayne French Trucking in Russell.

Paul was a member of the VFW DAD’s where he was honored as the “Dad of the Year” in 2005 and was a member of the Old Time Trucker’s Club. He enjoyed tinkering, making repairs at the Custard Cottage, watching Westerns and Police shows, scratch-off tickets, and going to the coffee shop everyday with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Gouverneur; sons, David (Rose) Wells of Germany, Dennis (Charlene) Wells of Rockmart, GA, Sheriff Kevin Wells (Mary Curran) of Canton, Retired NYS Trooper Kurtis (Marisa) Wells of Gouverneur, and Pastor Kory (Kathleen) Wells of Watertown; sisters, Fern (Dale) McKinney and Betty (Ed) Warner; and a brother, Barry Wells. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Gary, Tuesday, Jacob, Mandie, Todd, Whitnee, Sarah, and Heather; and several great-grandchildren.

Paul is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Clifford Wells.

Darwin F. Paro

CHAUMONT- Darwin F. Paro, 79, of County Route 8, passed away on Saturday June 1st, 2019 at Samaritan Medical Center with family by his side. Arrangements have been entrusted to Becker-Cleveland Funeral Home Inc., Chaumont.

Darwin was born on February 8th, 1940 to the late Ezeb Paro and Lizzie Forte.

Darwin attended the local schools in Watertown, and then served in the United States Army, before becoming a mechanic and welder for Anchor Motor Freight on Wellesley Island.

Darwin was fire police for the Chaumont Fire Department. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends and family.

Darwin is survived by his loving wife Judith, his children: Tammy (Brian) DeCilles, Dexter, NY, Frank Pettey, Chaumont, NY, and William Pettey, Chaumont, NY. He is also survived by his brothers: Keith Paro, Homer, NY, and Harley (Ruth) Paro, Adams, NY, His grandchildren: Logan Pettey, Tabetha Petersen, and Amanda Chapman, along with two great-grandchildren: Cierra and Tyler Chapman, and several nieces and nephews.

Darwin is predeceased by his siblings: Peter Paro, Carl Paro, Perry Paro, Franklin Paro, Allan Paro, Kenny Paro, and Betty Paro.

James Michael Briggs

Formerly of Russell-- James Michael Briggs, 72, of Canton and formerly of Russell, NY, died Friday, May 31, 2019, at CVPH in Plattsburgh, NY, while surrounded by his close friends and companions, Donna Connor, Alfred Pritchard and April Mussen.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 10:00 AM in South Russell Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Jim was born June 10, 1946, in Gouverneur. He was a son of the late John Millard & Elsie Evelyn (Hance) Briggs and graduated from Clifton-Fine High School. He was employed at Newton Falls Paper Mill for a number years.

On August 18, 1979, he married Susan C. Clarke in the Russell United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Bailey as celebrant. Suzie died October 14, 2004.

In addition to his close friends and companions, he is survived by his brother, Jack Briggs; a son, Cory Briggs; a daughter, Lynn Ames; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Carol Sisson Freeman

Carol Sisson Freeman died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on the morning of Monday, May 13, 2019, at 93 years of age. Carol was pre-deceased by her parents, Walter Coffin Sisson of Potsdam, NY, and Ruth Griffith Sisson of Ilion, NY, and her sister, Sylvia Sisson Hart (Polly). She is survived by her brothers, Joseph Sisson and Walter Sisson, Jr. (Pete). She leaves behind her husband of 71 years, William Freeman (Bill), plus their children and families: Lisa and Stephen Sarfaty, son Joseph and daughter-in-law Lisa; Polly Rua and Chester Yee, son Luca Rua; William Freeman Jr. (Bill) and Alicia Dolce, daughter Perri and son Pierce; and Amy and Brian Johnson, son Kiran and daughter Tula.

Carol was born at home in Potsdam, NY, on June 16, 1925. She grew up in Potsdam and at Oak Point in Hammond, NY, where her family had built a summer home that the extended family now owns and occupies. She attended Wheelock College, graduating in 1947 with a degree in Elementary Education. She was married to Bill on July 12, 1947. They moved to Northfield, OH, in 1954, where they lived until 1994. Carol taught first grade at Northfield Elementary School for many years, retiring in 1993. She loved teaching and was chosen as Teacher of the Year twice. After retiring, Carol and Bill moved to their home at Oak Point full-time. From 2014-2017, they summered at Oak Point and wintered in Madison, CT, near their children. The last three years of Carol’s life were spent living full-time in Madison and New Haven, CT, although she and Bill were able to spend time at their beloved home at Oak Point each summer.

In addition to teaching, Carol loved to sing and perform, which she did with the Sweet Adelines for many years, singing bass in the Greater Cleveland Chorus (OH) and Acapella North (NY). She also loved to travel and went on many trips with her Northfield Elementary School and Sweet Adelines friends. Carol maintained her playful nature throughout her life. She was, often, the life of the party. She found people fascinating and engaged with them whenever possible, even in her last months at the Mary Wade Home (her last residence), making friends with many of the employees there, who mourned her passing.

A memorial service for Carol will be held on Saturday, July 6, 11:15 a.m., at the Acorn at Oak Point in Hammond, NY, with a reception following at Carol’s and Bill’s home, Birch Cottage, 17 Ferguson Drive, Hammond, NY.

Barton E. “Bart” Bishop

Fowler - Barton E. “Bart” Bishop, 55, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at his home.

Funeral services are private with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

Bart was born on December 30, 1963, the son of Eugene and Connie Reed Bishop.

He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1982 and worked for P&C Supermarket for 27 years, the majority of the time on the night crew.

Bart married Carla Bowhall on December 10, 1994 at the Fowler Baptist Church.

He enjoyed bowling, playing golf, watching sports on television, especially football and golf, and time spent with friends, family, and his dog Daisey.

Bart is survived by his wife Carla, his two children Cody Bishop and his girlfriend Kassie Whiteford of Fowler, Kortnee and Mike Lucidi of Gouverneur, and was looking forward to his soon to be born first grandson, Greyson. He is also survived by his parents Eugene and Connie, his brothers Lynn Bishop, Lyle and Lisa Bishop, a sister Nicole and John Suits, all of Fowler, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Leroy W. Lashua

ROCHESTER, NY/HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Leroy W. Lashua, 78, of Rochester, formerly of Star Lake, NY, died November 22, 2018 in Hildebrandt Hospice House in Rochester.

Born August 19, 1940 in Edwards, NY, a son of Bernist “Walt” and Beaulah (Sawyer) Lashua, he was graduated from Clifton-Fine School in Star Lake.

A veteran, Leroy entered the US Army on August 26, 1959 and served overseas with Company A, 3rd Qtr Masters Control group until being honorably discharged as a Private 1st class on August 25, 1961.

He married Marian M. Collins on July 21, 1963 in Elkton, Maryland. Mrs. Lashua died May 11, 2016.

Leroy was a tool and die maker for most of his life, having worked for General Motors and Valeo Electrical Systems in Rochester where he had resided for the past 55 years.

Throughout his life he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, and especially family get-togethers.

He was a member of American Legion Post 468, in Greece, NY, and was a longtime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE.).

Surviving are four children, Vicki Duval and Mark and his wife, Debbie Duval, all of Rochester, NY, Vincent Duval, of California, and Laurie Holmes, of West Bloomfield, NY; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Ronald and Betty Lashua, and Ricky Lashua, all of Star Lake, and Harl Lashua, of Cranberry Lake, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his loving wife, Marian, of 52 years, he was predeceased by two brothers, Wendel and Joe Lashua, and a sister, Belva Riley.

A Graveside Memorial and Committal Service with military honors will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 12 Noon in the Harrisville Community Cemetery, Rt. 3, Harrisville, NY.

Lois A. Peckham Goode 94 of San Diego, CA passed away Monday May 20, 2019. Lois was born July 12,1924 in Utica, NY to Charles A. and Agnes K. Peckham. The family moved to Watertown in the 1930’s. She attended schools in Utica, Watertown and graduated from Chaumont High School in 1942. Lois worked several summers for her grandmother at Rocky Point Inn, Inlet, NY. Following World War II, Lois moved to San Diego, CA were she graduated from San Diego Community College. She worked for many years in the San Diego School System. She was married for 40 years to Glenn S. Goode. He passed away in October 2011. Lois was the second of eleven children. Surviving her are two sisters June E. Reason and Mary G. Bibey of Watertown, three brothers Charles J. of Del Mar, CA, Norman F. of Dexter, NY, David A. of Webster, NY and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 brothers, Eugene C., John R., Paul F., Patrick and a sister Elva A..Graveside services will be private.


Jeanne S. Reynolds

Jeanne S. Reynolds, of Cranberry Lake, passed away quietly at Clifton-Fine Hospital on May 31, 2019. She was 95 years young.

Born in Chungking, China, December 4, 1923, where her parents Dr. Leon E. Sutton and Ruth C. Sutton were medical missionaries.

Mrs. Reynolds attended Syracuse schools, graduating from Fayetteville High School in 1941. She was a 1945 graduate, Cum Laude at Syracuse University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.

Mrs. Reynolds married George E. Reynolds of Cranberry Lake, on May 17, 1947 and has been a resident of Cranberry Lake ever since. Together, they had five children, G. Steven Reynolds, Cape Coral, FL., Mary Anne (Moe) Zuhlsdorf, of Cranberry Lake, Margaret (Peg) Trembley of Cranberry Lake, 3 grandchildren, Erin Reynolds Trojan, Chittenango, Cory and Jonah Trembley, Cranberry Lake, and two great grandchildren, Vivian Jeanne, and Elise Ann Trojan, Chittenango.

She was predeceased by her husband George and two sons Richard (Dick) Reynolds, and John (J.J.) Reynolds.

Mrs. Reynolds was a member of the Cranberry Lake Firemens Auxillary, Cranberry Lake Boat Club, and was Town of Clifton Historian for many years.

She and her husband owned and operated Reynolds General Store from 1965-1975. She was an accomplished watercolorist and maintained End of the Pier Studio for over 30 years and was known for her watercolor landscapes of her favorite Adirondacks.

She enjoyed family, friends, canoeing, antiques, and her well known 5:00 Happy Hour at her studio.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cranberry Lake Fire and Rescue.

Arrangements are with Hawley Funeral Home in Star Lake. There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be held at St. Huberts Church in Star Lake, June 14, 2019 at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at Cranberry Lake Cemetery.

Mr. Lawrence J. Lalonde, age 80 of Hannawa Falls, NY passed away June 4, 2019 at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton, NY where he had been a resident since March 14, 2017. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 7th at noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with a burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Larry was born on August 2, 1938 in Ogdensburg, NY. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Marion (Carter) Lalonde and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Ogdensburg.

Larry married Joyce Hall of Richville in February 1961. He worked as a sales representative for Colony Liquor for over 30 years. He enjoyed all the folks he met along the way and made many friends. After retirement, he worked as a courier for Community Bank.

Larry is survived by his wife, Joyce of Potsdam; son Lance and Dorothy Lalonde of Potsdam; son Matthew Lalonde of New Jersey; grandchildren Cassandra and Tim Bunstone of Colton, NY, Trevor, Garrett and Colby Lalonde of New Jersey and their mother Shelley. Also his great grandchildren Oliver and Henri Bunstone and a sister Leah Martin of Ogdensburg.

He is predeceased by his daughter Michele Lalonde and his sisters Katherine Brown, Marion McNally and Jane Teddy.

He is a life member of the Potsdam Elks Lodge and a long standing member of St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam. He was very involved in Pop Warner Football. Larry loved the New York Yankees. He enjoyed watching them on tv and seldom missed a game.

The Lalonde family would like to express their thanks to the Maplewood United Helpers staff and to Hospice and Palliative Care for their caring and kindness. They were a source of strength for his family.

Mary L. Kilbourn, 77, of 11 Liberty St, West Carthage died Tuesday evening, June 4, 2019 at the Carthage Area Hospital.

Mary was born on July 6, 1941 in Lowville, the daughter of the late Gerald and Dortheya (Thrayer) Edick. She married Raymond A. Kilbourn on January 19, 1973 in West Virginia. Mary was a homemaker and worked as a waitress at the Chatterbox Diner in Carthage.

She is survived by her husband: Raymond A. Kilbourn of West Carthage , three daughters: Mrs. James (Robin) Condino, Nicole Church and Christie Kilbourn, all of Carthage, one son: Steven Edick of Harrisville, five grandchildren, Jessica Stone, Robert Church, Dustin Church, Jared House and Jennah House; a great granddaughter, Braylea House, a sister: Valerie Capron of Florida, a brother: Arthur Edick of Croghan, a sister-in-law, Barbara Edick of New Bremen and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by 6 brothers, Darwin, Gerald Jr., Carl, Walter, Jerry and Robert Edick and a sister, Grace Sulier.

Graveside service for Winifred E. Dumont, 100, formerly of Potsdam, will be Friday, June 7th at 1pm at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam, NY with Rev. Stephen Rocker officiating.

Surviving are her ex-daughter-in-law Shirley Crump, 5 grandchildren - Elmer Crump and his wife Celia of Memphis, NY, Debra Pinkston of Atlanta GA, Cathy Crump of Syracuse, NY, Peter Crump and his wife Elizabeth of Syracuse, NY and Brenda Torrence of Fairport, NY, and extended grandchildren, Robert Crump and his wife Amber of Savannah, GA, Joseph Willsey and Angela Simmons of Syracuse, NY; brothers David and his wife Betty Bartlett of Potsdam, and Donald Bartlett of Massena. Plus, 24 great-grandchildren, 45 great-great grandchildren and 9 great-great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Bryce Crump and her second husband, Ernest “Pete” Dumont; son, Elmer Crump; brothers Howard, Arthur, and Francis Bartlett; sisters Pauline Jarvis, Helen Marie Gonyea, and Martha Ann, Virginia Rose, and Mary Bartlett.

Winifred was born on March 14th, 1918, daughter of the late Archie and Jessie (Wynne) Bartlett in Potsdam, NY. She attended Potsdam area schools and worked on the family farm. She married Bryce Crump on November 12, 1936. Most dear to her heart, besides her son Elmer, was her nephew, Billy Durgan, to whom she raised as her own since the age of two, and her nephew Frankie Gonyea. In the 1950s, she worked at the Potsdam Club as a cook, and also did housework cleaning and sewing for people in town. She found love again and on September 12, 1966, she married Ernest “Pete” Dumont in New Hampshire. After the passing of her husband Pete, Winifred managed a motel and worked as a cook at a restaurant in Alexandria Bay for 6 years, then returned to Potsdam and worked as an elderly caretaker. In her spare time, Winifred so enjoyed crocheting, sewing, crafting, loved to cook and collect recipes. Also known as an independent, industrious, and determined woman, she managed to live by herself until the age of 98 until her health began to waiver. Thank you “Grandma Winnie” for 100 years of family stories and memories…

Amy passed away Sunday, June 2nd at Samaritan Medical Center. She was 81 years old.

Born November 18, 1937 in Carthage, Amy was a daughter of Albert and Lillian (Cross) Tousant. She was educated locally and worked as a cab driver at several local cab companies.

On May 04, 1958 she married Gordon D. Sweet. Mr. Sweet passed away November 01, 2007.

Amy enjoyed cookouts, spending time with her family, and playing cards.

She is survived by her children, Richard Sweet, Victoria Majo, Gordon M. Sweet, Tina Sweet and companion Rodney Fancher, Ellen Robinson, Brenda and Jeremiah Delgado, Gary and Samantha Sweet. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.

Amy is predeceased by her son, David Sweet, and a son-in-law, Terry Majo.

Louisville: Suzanne R. Bestor, 70, of Willard Road, passed away Tuesday evening, June 4, 2019 at Massena Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. There will be no public calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 08, 2019 at 10:00 AM in Pine Grove Cemetery II, Norfolk, with Pastor Theresa Shear presiding.

Suzanne was born on March 17, 1949 in Norfolk, the daughter of Jesse and Ruby (Spellan) Spellan. She married Paul L. Bestor on July 1, 1967. Suzanne stayed home to raise her children while they were young, and in later years provide child care of others. She enjoyed watching soap operas, especially The Young and the Restless, and enjoyed collecting bears. She and her husband enjoyed camping in their RV all over the United States, and spending time with her family.

Suzanne is survived by her loving husband Paul Sr.; her children, Vicki and husband Mark Wright of Roanoke, IN; Paul Jr. and wife Tara Bestor of Newfane, NY; Valarie Simmons and companion Dion Middleton of Bronx, NY; five grandchildren, Chelsey Wright; Zachary and wife Danielle Wright; Tyler and wife Brooke Bestor; Justin Bestor, and Bonnie Simmons; five great grand-children, Lena, Harper, Jackson, Carley and Bo. She is also survived by her siblings, Glendon Spellan of Kendall, NY; Robert and wife Diana Spellan of Massena; and an aunt, Margaret Houle as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother George Spellan.

Douglas J. Camidge, 66, of 38766 NYS Route 3, Carthage, died Tuesday evening, June 4, 2019 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

Doug was born on October 5, 1952 in Carthage, the son of the late Cleon W. and Irene M. (Adner) Camidge. He attended school in Carthage and Beaver River. He married Cathy M. Lago on June 8, 1971 in Carthage. Cathy, a longtime employee of Carthage Area Hospital died on October 24, 2007. Doug was employed by Climax MFG in West Carthage for over 35 years, retiring due to his health.

Doug was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels Program in Lewis County for many years. He enjoyed playing poker, golfing, hunting and fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Tim (Tanya) Travis of Carthage and Crystal Arnold of Florida, one son and his wife: James and Kelly Camidge of Herrings, 7 grandchildren; Kelsey, Dawson and Dylan Camidge, Jayden and Alyssa Arnold and Tia and Timothy Travis, 3 sisters: Julia Kloster of Belfort, Cora Kloster of Croghan and Colleen Jass of Alden, Iowa, 2 brothers: Dennis Camidge of Tylerville and Brian Camidge of Ashland, VA and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Daniel Camidge and 3 sisters, Trudy Marriott, Cora Kloster and Elaine Camidge who died in infancy.

There will be a Celebration of Life held on Friday, June 7th at 2:00pm at the American Legion in Carthage. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.

Charlie Bolio

Donald Charles Bolio, known to all as Charlie, 73, formerly of Watertown, died peacefully on May 24th in Washington, Illinois where he had resided for the last four years.

He was born October 15, 1945, the son of Leo & Elizabeth (Shietz) Bolio. They preceded him in death, along with his brother & sister-in-law Fred and Charlotte Bolio. He has one surviving sister, Betty (Richard) Mekeel of Chaumont.

He leaves behind five daughters: Donna (Ron) Casper, Washington, IL; Lisa (Steve) Cates, Leesburg, FL; Melissa (Roy) Dillon, Ashland, KY; Jenifer (Josh) Cronk, Watertown, Stephanie (Erik) Schaeffer, Omaha, NE, 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. He is also survived by the mothers of his children, Norma (Yerdon) Davenport and Carol (Williams) Bolio.

He graduated from Adams Center High school in 1963 and worked on the family farm until accepting a small engine mechanic position at Devito’s Sales & Service in Watertown. He later worked for New York State DOT, starting in 1976 until his retirement in 1999.

He had a love for entertaining. He played drums and sang with several local bands, including “Charlie Bolio & The Country Rebels”, a band he formed in the early 70s. In later years, he was a karaoke DJ, known for wearing a large foam cowboy hat. He was an avid bowler, also coaching youth and was honored by the Watertown Hall of Fame in 2005. He was a member, trustee and past president of Eagles Aerie #782. He served on the board of directors for the Jefferson County Fair from 1985 to 2015 then becoming an honorary director. He was also a volunteer fireman for the town of Watertown Fire Dept for many years.

Other than his children, grandchildren and the New York Giants, his greatest love was bringing joy to others. He was a favorite at the Samaritan Keep home where he regularly visited and sang. He never met a stranger, and was known by many.

At his request, there will be no services at this time. His daughters are planning a celebration of his life to be held at a future date. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Children’s Miracle Network, the charity he loved most.
