Patricia E. Hastings

Patricia E. Hastings, 83, of Route 22B in Morrisonville, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019 at her home with family by her side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Ogdensburg on October 15, 1935, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Marion Petrie.

Patricia was employed as a legal secretary for Holcombe and Dame Esq. for over 20 years and later for Gary Favro, Esq. until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, spending time at camp in Chazy Lake and most of all, spending time with her family.

She is survived by a daughter and son in law; Louise E. and Bruce Gibbs of Weeki Wachee, Florida, a son and daughter in law; D. Andrew and Lisa Hastings of Plattsburgh; her sister; Donna Moore of Fort Myers, Fl., her grandchildren; Justine and Joseph Bushey, Drew Hastings and companion Alison Munro, Krysta and Josh Hankle, her great grandchildren; Ella and Gavin Bushey, and Tessa Julianne, a cousin whom she thought of as a brother , Darrell Ramie, a special friend whom she thought of as a daughter, Debbie Ero, and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Donald A. Hastings passed away in 2003 and a daughter Julie A. Hastings passed away in 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Gail Leonard Fuller

Gail Leonard Fuller, 86, went home to be with the Lord on June 6, 2019 in Sumter, South Carolina. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on June 22, 2019 at St. Marks Methodist Church, Sumter, South Carolina followed by interment with military honors at Fairview Cemetery in Edwards, New York on a yet to be determined date. Gail was born in Gouverneur, New York to Leonard and Theo Gore Fuller. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 63 years, and his children, Michael (Alisa), Susan (Jeff), Linda and Andrea (Joseph), his sister Evelyn Miller (Royce) and sister in law Judy Cameron (Charles.) Gail is also survived by his five grandchildren; Cassandana, Genesis, Anastasia (Ricardo), Kaley (Troy) and Torrey, three great grandchildren, Sophia, Saydee and Lilly and six nieces, one nephew and several cousins. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Judith Perpente.

Gail served his country in the United States Air Force for 53 years in active duty and civil service. During his active duty service, Gail served in United States Security and Law Enforcement and as a First Sergeant. He worked with Sentry dogs during the Korean War and volunteered as a forward observer during the Vietnam War.

During his civil service for the United States Air Force, Gail was selected as Outstanding Education Services Counselor and was on the Air Force Education Services Advisory Panel. He received many other honors and rewards for both his military and civil service.

Education was paramount to Gail. While working full time he obtained his master’s degree as well as a license to preach for the United Methodist Church. He pastored in three country churches in upstate New York until he received orders for England.

Gail was loved by all who knew him. He was unpretentious, wise and although a man of few words, when he did speak, his words were sincere and heartfelt. He was a man of honor, had a quiet strength and was loyal and faithful. He also had a loving, mischievous sense of humor. Gail had a great love of music and had a beautiful singing voice.

Gail loved being with his family, and also enjoyed reading, playing golf, woodworking and spending his summers in upstate New York at Lake Bonaparte. In his early years, Gail played softball and football. He loved running, camping and hiking and we often laughed at his tales of attempting to play water polo.

For all of those who knew him, Gail’s walk with God and his faith were first and foremost in his life and he truly loved and appreciated all of his church families.

Robert T. Gallagher

Robert T. Gallagher, 65, of Three Mile Bay died unexpectedly after being flown to Upstate University on Saturday June 1st.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Becker-Cleveland Funeral Home, Chaumont, NY.

Born October 11, 1953, Robert was the son of Rollin and Gloria (Ayers) Gallagher.

He graduated from Watertown High School in 1972, upon then he entered the U.S. Navy where he taught sailors to swim. After coming home he completed training as a Journeyman for the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 56 and began his masonry career with Stebbins Engineering. He retired from Jefferson County Buildings Dep’t.

He married Cathy Lee Charlton on February 21, 1976 at Sacred Heart Church in Watertown.

He was a member of Holy Family Church in Watertown and St. Vincent de Paul in Cape Vincent.

An avid sportsman, hunter, archer, trapper and fisherman, he was President of Jefferson County Sportsmens Federation as well as a member of several hunting clubs including Watertown Sportsman Club, Mad River Club, Handsome Pond Club in Tupper Lake and Owls Head in Malone. He knew the Adirondacks, Tug Hill, and Lake Ontario like no one else. He also took pride in coaching youth hockey with his son’s teams.

He was a lifetime member of the NRA.

Robert is survived by his wife of 43 years, a daughter Rachel Slate, a son Ethan and fiancé Heather Blair, all of Three Mile Bay.

He took the most pride in his grandchildren Samantha, Thomas and Gabriel who were the sparkle in his eye.

Additionally he is survived by a sister Erin, and two brothers Steven and Edward.

Waddington: Frances W. Doyle, age 99, passed away Friday morning, June 7, 2019 at Maplewood Health Care in Canton. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Phillips and James Catholic Church, Lisbon. Burial will follow in Flackville Cemetery, Lisbon.

She was born on March 17, 1920 in Lisbon, the daughter of Leslie E. and Marion (Cloce) Woodside. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1937 and Ogdensburg Business School in 1942. She worked at Alcoa in Massena for a total of eight years during which she took engineering courses at Clarkson College. She did clerical work and later, industrial engineering work at ALCOA during World War II. She married Joseph A. Doyle JR. on August 4, 1945 in Boca Raton, FL, by Cpt. Gordon P. Campbell on the Army Air Force base where Mr. Doyle was stationed. She and her husband lived in Pennsylvania after the war, where she worked at a Pottery, in PA. She and her husband moved to the North Country, where she obtained work at Guilmette and Pinto, CPA in Canton, Massena and Potsdam for five years. She worked at the St. Lawrence National Bank, now known as Community Bank, NA for 20 years, retiring in March 1985. While employed at the bank, she was secretary in the Trust Department and later, secretary in the Audit Department.

Frances was a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Phillips and St. James Church of Lisbon, a member of the Parish Council for several years as well as President of it for a period of time. Frances was also a lector and Eucharist Minister there for a number of years. She worked for the American Cancer Society as a volunteer for about 30 years, beginning as Lisbon Town chairman for the House to House Campaign in 1956. Then, she began again in the same capacity in the early 1960’s. She was elected to the Board of Directors of ACS of St. Lawrence County in 1983 and was treasurer for that year. She was County Chairman of the House to House Campaign for a number of years, helped in the sale of daffodils. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church of Waddington and a member of Family Circle of that parish. Member of the St. Lawrence County Historical Society and volunteer in various functions and work connected with the Society. She enjoyed visiting with her relatives and many friends, doing genealogy research, reading and working on jigsaw puzzles.

Frances is survived by her daughter Elaine “Lynn” Griggs of Dallas, TX; a grandson, Scott and wife Mariana Griggs of Dallas, TX; two granddaughters, Amy and husband Steven Baggett of Richardson, TX, and Sarah and husband Jeremy Richardson of Dallas, TX; five great grandchildren, Lauren and Brooke Baggett, Catalina, Francisco and Guillermo Griggs; several grand nieces and nephews. Frances was predeceased by her husband, Joseph on September 19, 1981, a daughter, Anita Doyle on April 24, 2008, and a sister, Mary McBath.

At the families, request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church, Waddington, St. Philips and St. James Church Lisbon or Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley. Mr. Stewart P. Peters, 51, died on Saturday, June 8th, at his residence, where he was under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County. Per his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral, instead he wanted a Celebration of Life, that will be held Friday, June 14th, starting at 5pm, at the Watertown Elks Club.

Arrangements are with the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton.

Stewart was born October 8th, 1967, in Gouverneur, the son of Stewart W. and Diane Jones Peters. He graduated from Watertown High School.

In his younger life he worked for a time at Renzi Bros. in Watertown, and then became a Correction Officer, where he retired in January of 2015, after 25 years.

He enjoyed deer and duck hunting, fishing, and going four-wheeling.

Stewart was a member of the Watertown Elks Club, the Sons of the American Legion Alexandria Bay Post, and also NYSCOPBA.

Surviving is his companion of 22 years, Laura Cupernal; one daughter and a son, Mikayla and Ian, both at home; his parents, Stewart and Diane of Chaumont; one sister, Nicole (Todd) Williams of Clayton; one brother, Aaron and his companion Susan Mayerle of Minnesota; one sister in law, Maggie, of Kansas; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

One brother, Noel (Aaron’s twin), died before him.

Betty J. Hall

Betty J. Hall, 83, formerly of Gotham St., Watertown, passed away May 9, 2019 at the Samaritan Summit Village where she had been a resident.

She was born on December 20, 1935 in Gouverneur, NY, daughter of John W. and Myrtle J. Worden Blackburn. She attended Gouverneur Elementary Schools and then moved to Watertown where she graduated from Watertown High School in 1953.

Betty was employed by the City of Watertown where she worked in the purchasing department. In later years she was employed with the Watertown City School District, retiring in 1999. She also volunteered and worked at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Watertown.

She married David G. Hall, her high school sweetheart, on August 25, 1956 at Bethany United Methodist Church, in Watertown with Rev. Wilber officiating. Mr. Hall was a retired New York State Trooper, he passed away March 4, 1990.

She enjoyed volunteering, traveling, cooking and antiquing. Betty was an expert baker and loved to collect cookbooks and recipes. Her lemon meringue pies were renown as amazing. She avidly followed the local sports teams including the New York Yankees and Syracuse basketball.

Among her survivors are two sons and three daughters in law, Kenneth and Donna Moulico Hall, Upton, MA, Timothy Hall and Beth Berlin, Missoula, MT, Kelly Flanagan Hall, Watertown, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was predeceased by her son, Mark Hall who passed away on December 24, 2018, and two sisters, Mabel Link in 2013 and Geraldine O’Brien in 2007.

Calling hours will be held Noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St., Watertown. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will then be held in Union Cemetery in Adams Center.

In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Hospice, the American Cancer Society, and the Children’s Miracle Network.

Funeral services for Pamela Marie (McCabe) Roberts, age 51, of Cincinnati, OH and formerly of Ogdensburg, NY, will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019, at 1:00PM at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Mrs. Roberts passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019, at the home of her mother, Lucy, in Shelby, NC, after losing a battle with cancer. Pamela is survived by her loving husband, Randy, of Cincinnati, OH; her mother, Lucy McCabe of Shelby, NC; her brother, Timothy A. McCabe of Potsdam, NY; a sister, Colleen McCabe Richter and her husband, Keith of Mooresville, NC; a niece and nephew, Jonathan Atchie and Emily Richter and several cousins. She is predeceased by her father, John McCabe, in 2014. Pamela was born on December 8, 1967, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of John E. and Lucy Tombolillo McCabe. She graduated from Potsdam High School in 1986 and later attended North Country Community College, took classes at Ohio State University, and she was a trained massage therapist and reflexologist. Pamela married Randy Roberts on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1998 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. At the time of her illness, she was employed by Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market as Assistant Manager. She had also initiated a special spot in Jungle Jim’s Super International Market. Pamela had many friends. She was a huge dog lover and was accompanied by her dog, Tucker, until the end. Pamela was passionate about volunteering at the local no kill shelter during her free time. She also was involved with International Dance. Roger L. Towner

The funeral mass for Roger L. Towner will be Saturday, June 15th at 9:30 am at the St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Grove St., Adams with Father Martin Cline officiating. There will be no calling hours. There will be a reception following mass at St. Cecilia’s parish center.

Mr. Towner, 83, passed away Saturday, June 8th at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where he had been a resident for several years.

He was born in Cohocton, NY August 26, 1935, a son of Arthur and Irene Towner. He graduated from Wayland-Cohocton High School. Mr. Towner joined the US Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. Roger worked as a superintendent for several construction companies in various locations.

He was a 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus #7364, a member of the American Legion Post #805 in Cohocton, NY., played AAA baseball and was a certified pilot.

Roger married Carolyn Hudson December 29, 1984 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Adams.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, watching SU football, SU basketball and the NY Yankees.

Besides his wife Carolyn of Ellisburg, he is survived by his three sons, Todd (Jill) Dack, Mannsville; Stephen (Terry) Dack, Adams; Shawn Dack, Ellisburg; four daughters, Terri (John Catalano) Cough, Baldwinsville; Stacie (John) Miele, SC; Tammi (Raymond) Schultz, Adams; Tricia Holl, Cortland; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Jerry Towner, Frank Towner and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents Roger was predeceased by his daughter Lisa Towner Fraser and a brother Richard Towner.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Samaritan Keep Home 8th floor for the wonderful care that they had given Roger.

George J. Aubin

George J. Aubin, 96 of Texas Road, Carthage passed away Tuesday morning at the Carthage Area Skilled Nursing Center.

George was born August 27, 1917 in Canada the son of Francis Aubin. He married Margaret Doroha on June 5, 1939 at Holy Family Church in Watertown. The couple lived on the Texas Road in Carthage for many years.

George owned and operated Aubin Well-Drilling.

Surviving are five children: Mrs. Ronald Shirley Pate of Copenhagen, Sally Gilbert of S. Carolina, Kenneth and Ann Aubin of Limerick, Joseph and Cheryl Aubin of Natural Bridge and James and Diane Aubin of Florida. He has several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Margaret in 1997.

Yancey of New Market, NH; Annette Halko and her companion Paul Brown of Naumburg; Paula and Nathan Zehr of Webster, NY; seven siblings, Kenneth (Deb) Lyndaker of Watson; Gladys Sweitzer of Big Bear, CA; Alta Noftsier of Lowville; Catherine (Rexford) Dannon of Salisbury Center; Dorothy (Elmer) Zehr of Lowville; Helen (Loren) Unruh of Kansas; and Paul Lyndaker of Castorland; sister-in-laws, Phyllis Lyndaker of Lowville and Fern Lyndaker of Lowville; 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, Gerald; a daughter, Juanita Rose Yancey, who died in 1962 at the age of 7; four brothers; Christian Lyndaker, David Lyndaker, Norman Lyndaker and Howard Lyndaker; a brother-in-law, Jerry Sweitzer, a sister-in-law, Gail Lyndaker; the Yancey in-laws, Samuel and Edna Zehr, Abner and Mary Swartzentruber, Edward and Bertha Yancey, Clayton and Iva Yousey, Edward and Bertha Roes, Maurice and Rosella Roes.

Mrs. Yancey was born on April 7, 1925 in Belfort, NY, a daughter of the late Paul and Catherine Yousey Lyndaker. She attended rural school in Belfort and Beaver Falls High School. On December 12, 1946, she married Gerald Yancey at Croghan Mennonite Church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating. Together with her husband, the couple owned and operated the Yancey family dairy farm on the Yancey Road in West Lowville until 1975, at which time the couple moved to the Cut Off Road in Beaver Falls. (Real estate business and bed and breakfast.)

Mrs. Yancey was a member of Lowville Mennonite Church. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and visiting Florida.

PHILADELPHIA – Katherine (Pitts) Young, 60, passed away on Tuesday evening, June 11, 2019 at the Jefferson County Hospice Residence in Watertown.

Katherine was born on January 5, 1959 in Gouverneur, New York, the daughter of Gerald Jay and Audrey (Wood) Pitts. She attended Indian River Central School and went onto receive an Associates Degree in early childhood education from Jefferson Community College. She worked various jobs over the years including housekeeping, secretarial work, truck driving, bartending and food service. She even picked grapes in Oregon for a time. She was also an electrician. Her most recent position before her illness was a Teacher’s Aide at Indian River Central School.

Katherine was a volunteer pre-school and Sunday school teacher. She was known for her drive to help others, often taking in families that were in need. She is survived by a daughter, Anna Young of Philadelphia, NY; three sons, Austin Young of Jacksonville, FL; Jacob Young of San Diego, CA; and Jared Young of Theresa, NY; her mother, Audrey Pitts of Philadelphia, NY; six siblings, Laurie Pitts of Philadelphia, NY; Louise Pitts of Evans Mills, NY; William Pitts of Florida; Ervin Pitts of Philadelphia, NY; Linda Pitts of Watertown, NY; and Rita (John) Wilm of Tennessee; as well as one grandchild, three foster grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Katherine is predeceased by her father, Gerald; a nephew, Nathan Dimon; two brothers, Frank and David Pitts as well as a sister, Karen Durocher.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on June 19, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Philadelphia with Pastor Chilton McPheeter officiating. Burial will be held in Sandy Hollows Cemetery in Philadelphia.

Memorial donations may be made to Jefferson County Hospice at 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601.

A graveside service for former long- time Brownville residents, Wilber and Ivy Washer will be held at 11:00am Friday, June 21st at the North Watertown Cemetery on Bradley Street.

Wilber passed away August 24, 2007 at the age of 86 in Houston, TX. He was a Corporal in the US Army during World War II and was stationed in Leigh, England. He will be interred with military honors. Wilber worked more than 40 years for the New York Air Brake, retiring in 1983. He was also a long-time member of the Brownville Fire Department and the Allen-Giles American Legion Post 588.

Ivy passed away January 10, 2019 at the age of 93 in Fort Myers, FL. She worked for the General Brown School District for over 20 years, retiring in 1983. She was also a member of the Brownville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and served on the board for the Brownville Senior Apartments.

The couple were married December 14, 1946, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Watertown and are survived by their sons James (Carole) Washer of The Villages, FL and David (Laurie) Washer of Fort Myers Beach, FL; daughter Barbara (Arthur) Holmes of Sugarland, TX; grandchildren Andrew, Scott, Heather, Joanne, and Christopher; and six great-grandchildren. They were preceded in death by their daughter, Joan Elizabeth, who passed away shortly after birth March 3, 1961.

The family invites friends to join them at the graveside service followed by a luncheon at the Watertown Ramada immediately after the service.

The spring graveside service for Jeremiah P. “Jerry” Lantier will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clayton on Saturday, June 15, at 1 PM with Fr. Arthur J. LaBaff, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, presiding. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821. Mr. Lantier, 90, of Clayton passed on November 20, 2018. Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton and online condolences may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. *A full obituary was run at the time of his death.
