pMagaret Loftus Townsend, 88 of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on January 31, 2016. Margaret was born on August 6, 1927 in Watertown, NY, to Thomas and Margaret Ellen Loftus. She attended Immaculate Heart Academy in Watertown and Good Counsel College in White Plains, NY, graduating in 1949. She married Jack Townsend and moved to Phoenix, AZ, in 1952. After working many years for the Maricopa County Welfare Department, she earned a Masters of Social work degree from Arizona State University in 1968. She subsequently worked for 20 years for Phoenix Elementary School District #1 as a school social worker, later as a social worker supervisor and retired in 1989. She continued to work part-time for Phoenix Elementary long after her retirement and was held in highest regard by all who knew and worked with her. She is preceded in death by her brother Tommy, sister Pat and son Barry. She is survived by her sister Caddy, brother Amby, daughter Terry, sons Stephen (Markus) and Mark, friend and longtime companion Dolores, grandson Bradley and great grandchildren Peyton, Jacob and McKinsey. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 12, 2016 at 2:00 at the Beatitudes Campus in the Luther Life Center, 1610 W. Glendale Avenue, in Phoenix. pPasquale J. Caramanna, 77, of Adams, NY, passed away in his sleep in the early morning hours of February 5, 2016. Pat fought the fight against cancer, and the victory is his as he now rests peacefully with God./ppPat was born on October 15, 1938, in Camden, NJ, the second son of Charles and Rose (Filippo) Caramanna. He grew up in South Jersey in the midst of a loving Italian – American family that included his older brother Charles and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Pat attended St. Joseph’s High School in Camden, NJ, and graduated in 1955 with Varsity Letters in football, basketball, and baseball. His athletic accomplishments in high school and at Perkiomen Prep School, Pennsburg, PA, led to offers of scholarships from a number of prestigious colleges. Pat chose to attend Syracuse University where he played football for four years and was a member of the 1959 National Championship Football Team. /ppPat earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Physical Education at Syracuse University and began his lifelong career in education as a teacher and coach at Liverpool High School, Liverpool, NY, then Fort Plain Central School, Fort Plain, NY. His career path led to administrative roles including High School Principal and Assistant Superintendent at Mexico Academy and Central School, Mexico, NY, Superintendent of Sackets Harbor Central School, and Director of Occupational Education and Adult Education at the Jefferson Lewis BOCES, Watertown, NY. In 1987, Pat was appointed Superintendent of Lyme Central School, Chaumont, NY, a position he held until his retirement in 1993. Throughout his time in education Pat served his students, staff, and community as a member of a number of organizations and guided the direction of high school sports in the North Country as president of the Frontier League./ppWhen retirement did not provide enough challenge, Pat assumed interim leadership roles at the Thousand Islands Girl Scout Council, Jefferson County Historical Society, Watertown, NY, and Indian River Central School District, Philadelphia, NY./ppPat married Charlotte “Chickie” Barzee in Syracuse, NY, in 1959. Pat took on his favorite role as Dad to their four children Wendy, John, David, and Tricia. Though this marriage ended in divorce, Pat held dear the times spent with his family./ppOn June 16, 1978, Pasquale J Caramanna married Lorraine Marie Baron of Fulton, NY, and for 37 years they journeyed through life together. /ppPat, his wife, and their daughter Jillian moved to Adams, NY, in 2003 where he embraced the community with wide open arms. Pat’s truck with its JILLSDAD license plates was easily recognizable in the parking lots of local businesses as he made the rounds for mocha iced coffee, newspapers, lottery tickets, and a treat for his dog Lola who waited patiently in the back seat. Pat’s boisterous entrance into the room could make anyone’s day bright and cheery./ppPat lived life to the fullest and made every moment count. In early years he enjoyed snowmobiling and camping. Later on he added Carnival Cruises, boat trips up the Rideau Canal and around Henderson Harbor, an afternoon of horse-racing at Saratoga, slot machines at the Turning Stone with his in-laws, and relaxing in his favorite living room chair. Pat could be found cheering at a sporting event, tapping his toes through a musical theater production, or rocking out at a concert. Some of his proudest moments came watching his daughter Jillian play basketball as a South Jeff Lady Spartan, and his grandchildren pursuing their dreams./ppPat is survived by his devoted wife Lorraine, his children, Wendy and Brian Abbe of Cicero, NY, Patricia and Paul Johnson of Flower Mound, Texas, Jillian Rose Caramanna, of Delmar, NY, John F. Caramanna and Kristen Alibrandi of Cicero, David and Kristin Caramanna of North Syracuse, his brother and sister-in-law Charles and Patricia Caramanna of Tabernacle, NJ, his mother and father-in-law Edwin and Carmen Baron of Fulton, and brother-in-law Edward M. Baron of Oswego. Carrying on his legacy will be his ten wonderful grandchildren, Maria, Christopher, Courtney, and Mark Abbe, Adam, Sydney, and Spencer Caramanna, Kendall and Brooke Johnson, and Avery Caramanna./ppPat leaves behind a multitude of friends including Kevin Seymour, Dr. Patrick and Caren Lanigan, John Roberts, Robert Hurley, Peter and Ann Trowbridge, John and Cheryl Clark, John and Linda Sheeran, and his ever faithful black lab Lola./ppPat was a communicant of St. Cecilia’s Church where he found strength, guidance, and grace in the love of God and the parish family. He was a man loved, respected, and admired for his kind, compassionate, unselfish ways. /ppCalling hours will be on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at the Piddock Funeral Home from 1 – 4 pm. His funeral will be at St. Cecilia’s Church on Monday, February 8 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Martin Cline and Rev. pCLAYTON- Deborah Jane Powers Oliver, 71 passed away February 4th 2016 at her home surrounded by loved ones and incredible Hospice nurses. She battled cancer for over 20 years with humor, grit and positivity, beating the odds many times over. Deborah was a passionate educator who taught for the Cranford, NJ school district for 25 years and continued to instill her love of reading and learning for years afterwards by tutoring local youths. She had lifelong love of the Thousand Islands, retiring here with her husband Bob in 2002 and capturing that beauty through her art and poetry. She volunteered as an EMT with both TIERS and Wellesley Island Volunteer Fire Department, sharing her compassion and caring with the community. He was born on September 27, 1932 in Carthage, New York to the late George and Mabel Coyer Gadbaw. He attended school in Carthage. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for Crown Zellerbach in Carthage for 43 years./ppHe is survived by his three children, Linda Dexter, New Hampshire; James Gadbaw, Watertown; and Kenneth Gadbaw, Natural Bridge. He is also survived by 6-grandsons, 13-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews./ppDonald was an amazing Father, Grandfather & Friend to all he knew. He lived a long and truly wonderful life. She was an exceptional cook who loved to entertain family and friends. Trombley, 81, of Douglas St. passed away peacefully Wednesday morning in Charlotte NC at the home of her daughter Lori, with whom she had resided for the past year./ppShe was born in Lowville, June 23, 1934, the daughter of Bruce and Mary LaMoine Monnat Martin and was a graduate of Beaver River High School./ppShe married Donald Trombley Oct. 3, 1953 in St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Croghan./ppShe was employed by the United States Postal Service as a clerk in Port Leyden and Lyons Falls for 32 years retiring Oct. 1998 and had also been employed as a cashier for Lyons Falls Great American for 29 years, retiring Dec. 2007./ppShe was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Port Leyden was a member of the former Port Leyden Monday Club, Red Hatters, Boonville Bowling League, Port Leyden PTO, and Adirondack Chorus./ppCarolyn was an avid reader, liked to sing, and cherished time spent with her family. She loved the Christmas holiday, as was evident by her large decorative Santa Claus collection and she also collected Angel figurines. Her hobbies included shopping and spending time on facebook connecting with family and her many friends./ppShe is survived by her husband, Donald of Port Leyden, two sons , Bruce ( Mary) Trombley of Little Falls, Christopher Trombley of Baldwinsville, three daughters Bethany ( Dale) Griffin of Weare, NH; Nan Spence of Baldwinsville and Lori ( Paul) McManus of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Carolyn was predeceased by a son, Scott. Also surviving are two sisters, Linda (Ralph) Hall of Castorland and Susan (Louis) Bottino of Syracuse; nieces and nephews and cousins./ppCarolyn will be deeply missed by all that knew her and look forward to reuniting with her in heaven./ppFriends may call Friday from 4 until 7 at the Callaghan Funeral Home, LLC, Port Leyden./ppThe funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Port Leyden with Rev. pWATSON - John A. Marcellus, 63, died Friday evening, February 5, 2016 at Lewis County General Hospital./ppMr. Marcellus was born August 22, 1952 in Lowville, the son of Donald Douglas and Avis M. (Holland) Marcellus. John graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School in 1970 when he enlisted into the U.S. Navy earning the rank of Hospital Corpsman and was honorably discharged. He met his wife Renee in the navy and they where united in marriage on June 14, 1975 at the Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Ladd K. Harris, officiating. /ppJohn was a Respiratory Therapist for Lewis County General Hospital, and retired as Director of Cardio Pulmonary Services. He also worked for Nunn’s Home Care./ppAn avid outdoorsman he was a life time member of Lower Balsam Flats Hunting Club, and a member of Brantingham Snowmobile Club. He always found time to enjoy hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, working with wood in his workshop, and most of all, family./ppJohn was a member of Lowville Elks Lodge #1605, AMVETS Post #99, where he served as Adjutant, he was an avid participant of Lowville American Legion Post #162, where he served as Adjutant and Bar Steward, and contributed many volunteer hours./ppHe is survived by his wife, Renee; their two children, his daughter Adrienne Bree and husband Jack Clark of Lowville and his son Adam and wife Jenna Marcellus of Roswell, NM; his mother, Avis of Lowville; nine grandchildren, Brianna, Cydnie, Elyse, Lillian, Madilynn, Kiara, Austin, Dakota, and Aiden; two sisters, Bethany Glenn of Syracuse; Marsha Markham of Hampshire, IL; several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Donald D. pLOUISVILLE: Family and friends mourn the passing of 70 years old, Keith A. Hart of State Highway 131 Louisville, NY. Keith passed away early Friday morning (February 5, 2016) at his home surrounded by his loving family and Hospice. He is survived by his Wife Lee of 46 years, his three sons; Timothy K. of Cedar Key, FL, Thomas and Wendy, and Michael R. and companion Rebecca Guiser both of Massena, NY, grandchildren, Baily, Gracie, Emma and Gabby all of Massena, NY. Keith is also survived by a brother and sister, a brother in-law Robert and Molly Simpson and sister in-law Linda and Dale Francis both of Cedar Key, FL, a special brother and sister Louis and Ernestine Oakes of Hogansburg, NY, along with several nieces and nephews./ppKeith A. Hart was born in Massena on April 16, 1945 to the late Arile and Blanch (Marcil) Hart. He attended Holy Family and graduated Massena Central in 1963. He continued his education while be actively enrolled in the U.S Army Reserves, which he participated for the next 10 years. Upon graduation from Canton A.T.C in 1971 he was employed full time with Alcoa. Keith married Lee Simpson on May 24, 1969 at The Church of The Sacred Heart with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. He retired from Alcoa in 2000 as a Machinist after serving over 30 years with the company. Keith enjoyed the time spent with family camping at Coles Creek and various KOA campsites. Along with trips to the casino, Keith enjoyed playing golf which the family also enjoyed. An avid hunter and fisherman, the outdoors is where Keith spent his leisure time. /ppThe calling hours will be held Wednesday February 10, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena with a prayer service from the AMVETS Post #4 at 6:00 P.M. A Mass of resurrection will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursdays February 11, 2016 at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Mark R. Reilly presiding. Internment will take place at the convenience of the family. pRichard A. Sample (Dick), 86, passed away on January 19, 2016 in Deland, Florida. He was born on June 25, 1929 in Fall River , Massachusetts to Mabel and Henry Sample. He graduated in 1947 from Durfee High School in Fall River where he was a star basketball player on the team that won the Massachusetts State championship. /ppHe met his future wife, Sally Olin Sample, at a USO dance at Camp(Fort) Drum when he was serving in the Army. They married in 1951, raised three children and celebrated over 60 years of marriage. /ppDick worked for National Grid/Niagara Mohawk for over 25 years. He loved sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, and served as a coach on his son’s little league team for several years. He also loved spending time with family and friends./ppHe was predeceased by his wife, Sally Sample, and a son Scott Sample. He is survived by his daughters: Jeanne Sample, Schenectday and Becky Sorrentino(Joe), Stockbridge Massachusetts, and three grandchildren. /ppThere will be a private graveside ceremony for family and a celebration of his life is planned for the spring./ppIn lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Town of Watertown Fire Department./p

Hludzenski, 94, of Samaritan Keep Home, passed away February 6, 2016, at Hospice of Jefferson County at the Ellis Farm./ppEdward was born October 2, 1921, in Watertown, a son of Joseph and Wanda Karwoski Hludzenski. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1940. Edward served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945 with the 864 Aviation Engineers in the Pacific Theater. /ppOn January 22, 1949 he married Merle L. Hamilton at St. Cecilia’s Church in Adams, NY. /ppBetween 1940 and 1948, he worked for the New York Air Brake, when not serving in the United States Army. Edward was a United States Postal clerk for thirty years, retiring in 1979. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a member of the VFW Post #1400, Watertown American Legion, the DAV, Northside Improvement League, and the Watertown Elks Lodge #496./ppEdward’s family would like to thank the 3rd floor staff of the Samaritan Keep Home and Hospice of Jefferson County for the excellent care they gave to him during his stay./ppSurviving besides his wife, are a son and his wife; James J, and Mary E., Watertown, three daughters and their husbands; Patricia A. and Robert Zingaro, Solvay, NY, Beverly K. and James Sylver, Watertown, Janis L. A prayer service will be at 10:15 am on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the funeral home with an 11am funeral mass at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Jonas Tandayu officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors.
