Watertown- The funeral for Anita Winn Maitland will be 1 pm Friday, February 3rd at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Elizabeth Moses and Rev. Dr. Marti Montovani co-officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 11am to 1 pm prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Maitland, 96, of Academy St., passed away Saturday, January 28th at the Samaritan Medical Center. She had lived at her home on Academy St. for 63 years.
She is survived by a daughter Kathleen Freeman, Watertown; a son and daughter-in-law, Victor and Carol Kraus, Lake Placid; her grandchildren Karen Kraus, Colton, NY, Kari (Ian) Zerrahn, FL, Paul (Allison) Freeman, CT, Jennifer (Peter) Berigan, CT; six great grandchildren Amanda Wood, Ashleigh Wood, Reese Berigan, Quinn and Cort Freeman, and Mys Zerrahn; several nieces and nephews. Her brother Victor Winn predeceased her.
Anita was born in Decatuer, IL, July 2, 1920, a daughter to Lewis O. and Josephine Gums Winn.
Anita worked in the camera department in the Robinsons Book Store. She later went to work as a secretary in the Watertown School District Arsenal St. school and later was the attendance clerk at Wiley school for many years retiring in 1975.
She married James C. (Cal) Maitland April 28, 1947. Mr. Maitland, a former city policeman and a retired letter carrier died February 12, 1997.
She was a member of the Stone Street Presbyterian Church and Stone Presbyterian Church.
