pMerle L. Hludzenski, 93, formerly of Holcomb Street, passed away November 26, 2016 at Samaritan Keep Home./ppMerle was born March 25, 1923, in Watertown a daughter of James P. and Renah E. Harris Hamilton. She graduated from Adams Center Central School and Mercy School of Nursing. Merle was a WWII veteran, serving from 1944-1946 in the United States Army Nurses Corp., in the European Theater. On January 22, 1949, she married Edward K. Hludzenski at St. Cecelia’s Church in Adams. Mr. Hludzenski died February 6, 2016./ppMerle was an RN at Mercy Hospital for twenty five years, retiring in 1985. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and was a member of the Mercy Hospital Alumni Association./ppMerle’s family would like to thank the 3rd floor staff of the Samaritan Keep Home for the excellent care they gave to her during her stay./ppSurviving are a son and his wife; James J, and Mary E., Watertown, three daughters and their husbands; Patricia A. and Robert Zingaro, Solvay, NY, Beverly K. and James Sylver, Watertown, Janis L. Pasciak, Utica, eight grandchildren, Matthew, Alan, Christina, Stephen, Aaron, Jamie, Sarah, Megan four great grandchildren, Jaelyn, Evan, Barrett, Jameson, several nieces and nephews. A brother Stanley Hamilton and her sisters, Margaret Stokes, Genevieve Murtaugh and Thelma Cullen all died before her. /ppCalling hours will be Tuesday November 29, 2016, from 4-7 pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be at 10:15 am on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the funeral home with an 11am funeral mass at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Jonas Tandayu officiating. pChampion, NY - Mary E. Bach, 92, of 19212 Bach Road, died peacefully early Saturday morning, November 26, 2016 at her home where she was born on the family farm in the Town of Champion. /ppMary was born on June 19, 1924, the daughter of the late Wolsey and Mary Ellen (Smith) Stoddard. She attended the one room school house near the family farm and later graduated from the West Carthage High School in 1942. She married Robert W. Bach on October 28, 1943 at the Dexter Parsonage. Together they operated their dairy farm on the Bach Road from 1944 until 1980, eventually moving to Watertown for 20 years on Patricia Drive and returned to the Bach Road in 2004. For over 30 years, the couple wintered in Leesburg, Florida. They were very active members of the Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club and Mary received her general license in 1986. Her call number was WB2AC0. Mr. Bach died on September 6, 2013. /ppMary was a voracious reader and journalist, journaling her life on the farm and family history and instilling a love of history to her children. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning, knitting, quilting, baling hay, picking berries, baking pies, cakes, breads, cookies, Christmas breads, boiling maple syrup, feeding her birds, jigsaw and crossword puzzles and entertaining./ppShe was a member of the Second United Methodist Church of Champion, Champion Grange, founding member of the Auxiliary of the Champion Fire Dept., Four Rivers Historical Society, Jefferson Co. Amateur Radio Club and a volunteer at the Trout Lake Nature Center in Eustis, FL. /ppShe is survived by four daughters: Mary Lee Thomas of Liverpool, Sharon A. (Edward) Wilkins of Otter Lake, Mabel J. (Lynn) Bretsch of Champion, and Florence E. Bach of Three Mile Bay, and one son: John W. (Teresa) Bach of Champion, 9 Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren./ppFuneral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 29 at the Second United Methodist Church of Champion with the Rev’s Sung Ah Choi and Tracy L. Cook officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Champion. pCARTHAGE – Earl “Hank” Barnhart, 87, formerly of the Texas Rd. and Meadowbrook Terrace, died early Saturday morning, November 26, 2016 at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville, NY, where he had been a resident for a short time./ppBorn in Ontario, Canada on April 27, 1929, the son of William E. & Hazel Mitchell Barnhart. His family moved to the United States when he was a young boy; he attended Carhtage Augustinian Academy. He was a paratrooper in the United States Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division, before returning home and operating his farm on the Texas Rd. He also was employed for many years at Carthage Papermakers, until his retirement at age 65. He married Virginia M. Slate in Newton Falls in 1956. Mrs. Barnhat died in 2005./ppHe was very proud of his tractors; he enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and he was especially fond of pie./ppHe is survived by his children and their spouses; Sally & Roger Haines, Carthage, Stephanie & Shaun Crawford, Carthage, Cyril “Sid” & Bonnie Barnhart, Ticonderoga and Richard & Tammy Barnhart, Carthage. Also surviving is his companion, Barbara Delles, his sister in law, Betty Barnhart, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, several cousins in Canada, as well as his beloved donkey, “Mooch”./ppHe is predeceased by his wife, Virginia, and his siblings; Dean Barnhart, Claire Barnhart, Dorine Koster and Doris Camidge./ppThere will be no public visitaion or funeral service for Mr. Barnhart. Janet passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. /ppJanet is survived by her three daughters, Katherine Mastro-Brandy; Anna (Eric) Wright and Nellie (Jeremy) Lucas, all of Waterman Hill; by her beloved grandchildren; Gregory and Joseph Mastro; Sophia Wright and Parker and Isabelle Lucas, all of Waterman Hill; by a sister, Yvonne (Bruce) LaRose of Ogdensburg and by several nieces and nephews. /ppJanet is predeceased by her first husband, Don Edrington, and by her second husband Ira “Peter” Bullis, by a brother, Roswell Smith, Jr. and by a sister, Loretta Oosman. /ppJanet was born May 24, 1944 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Roswell and Nellie (Ames) Smith. Janet graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1962. Upon graduation, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, with her sister and Brother-in-law to seek employment. From 1962-1970, Janet worked as a stenographer for Time-Life Magazine, Hope Publishing and Bache and Company, a well-known brokerage firm in the Loop. On July 2, 1966, Janet married Don Allen Edrington at City Hall in Chicago. In 1970, the couple and their young daughter, Katherine moved to Osceola, Arkansas, Don’s birthplace; he lost his life in a drowning accident in December 1973. /ppJanet and Katherine returned to the North Country, settling in Pierrepont. On August 29, 1976, Janet married Ira “Peter” Bullis, William Brewer, Justice of the Peace officiated. Ira was a descendant of two pioneer families, the Bullis’s and the Crary’s. He was the great-grandson of George Lucien Crary, the Adirondack Poet and great-great grandson of John Wheaton Bullis. In 1984, Janet and Ira purchased the Bullis Homestead at the foot of Waterman Hill, in the Town of Canton. Ira passed away in February 2009./ppJanet retired from SUNY Potsdam in 2006 after 24 years of service as a secretary. She was particularly happy to have worked in the Departments of Geology and Physics. Janet enjoyed taking courses in Art, History and Literature at Potsdam College. Barber, 81 passed away November 17, 2016 at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where he resided./ppMr. Barber was born January 25, 1935 in Williamstown, NY, son of the late William and Esther (Phillips) Barber. He was raised in Williamstown and graduated from Camden High School in 1953./ppHe married Rose Marie Rowe April 5, 1958 at the Orwell Union Church. They lived in Orwell until moving to Sandy Creek in 1991. Mr. Barber was an equipment operator for General Crushed Stone in Jamesville for 20 years. He served in the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard retiring in 1995. He was Past Director of the Sandy Creek/Oswego County Fair Association, former member of the Orwell Fire Dept. Board Member at NOCSHI Health Center Justice of the Peace and Supervisor for the Town of Orwell, Robert Edwards American Legion./ppSurviving are his wife Rose Marie; 2 daughters Terri (Joseph) Howard, Pulaski; Debra (Wayne) Greenfield, Pulaski; 1 son (who is currently serving in Kuwait)Timothy (Lynn) Barber, Black River; a brother Ellwyn Barber, Pulaski; a sister in law Sherrie Barber, Anderson, MO; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren./ppTwo brothers Wendell and Wayne died before him./ppCalling Hours will be Monday November 21, 2016 from 3pm-6pm at the Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek. He attended Immaculate Heart Academy and continued his education with a Masters Degree from Siena College. He was married to Carolyn E. Bezy in 1962. He was married to Ruth Brierton in September 1986, she passed away on February 6th, 2000./ppMr. Eggleston was an Economics/Psychology teacher at Watertown High School from 1968 to his retirement in January 2001. While teaching he also held the job of New York State Park Policeman for over 20 years, retiring in 2003./ppMr. Eggleston was the youngest recipient of the Eagle Scout Award in NYS, B.S.A., St. Patrick’s Troop, Watertown, NY./ppHe was president of the WEA for several years while teaching. He also enjoyed membership with the US Power Squadron./ppMr. Eggleston loved hunting with his lifelong teacher friends, could frequently be found on golf course after retirement, and spent many hours boating on the St. Lawrence. He also found countless years of joy with his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Roy./ppMr. Eggleston is survived by four children; Philip Eggleston, Copenhagen, Ellen (Alan) Majka, Belchertown, MA, Catherine (Gregory) Jock, Watertown, and Michael and Liane Eggleston, Potsdam; a brother Lee (Mary) Eggleston; eight Grandchildren; Three Great Grandchildren, and several Nieces and Nephews./ppBesides his parents, his wife Ruth Eggleston and his sister, Ann Windheuser died before him./ppA graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 3rd, at 1:00 pm, In Glenwood Cemetery, Watertown./ppDonations may be given in his memory to Hospice of Jefferson County who in the past have been a great help to his family. pEVANS MILLS - Eleanor “Ellie” Ruth Clark Canell, 80, Rockbrook Rd. died on Sunday morning, November 27, 2016 at the Jefferson County Hospice House. /ppShe was born in Watertown on August 4, 1936 to Kenneth Wood & Helen Elizabeth Zufelt Clark. In 1954, Ellie graduated from the Union Academy of Belleville, Upon graduation she enrolled into the House of the Good Samaritan School of Nursing where she was Assistant Head Nurse from 1959-1962. She was also employed as a School Nurse at Evans Mills Elementary for 4 years, while she was a head nurse and taught nursing at Jefferson Community College./ppShe was employed by the House of the Good Samaritan as a head nurse from 1962-1977, followed by working as an Intensive Care Unit Nurse from 1977-1980, she was the Nursing Supervisor from 1980-1982, where she transitioned to a Nurse Administrator for the Watertown Correctional Facility from 1982-1989. Ellie found her calling working for the New York State Department of Corrections as the Deputy Superintendent of Programs from 1990, during this time she also was a Director of Central Pharmacy from 1989-1990 and the Project Director/Walsh Medical Center until her retirement in 1998. /ppA marriage to Leon Canell ended in divorce./ppIn 1980, she enrolled into the United States Army Reserves, honorably retiring in 1996 as a Lieutenant Colonel. /ppEllie leaves behind three sons and six grandchildren; Brian and his companion, Monica Cronin, Calcium, Brian’s sons, Joseph and Jesse, Thomas and his wife, Janet, Evans Mills, their daughters, Megan and Aliza and Brett and his wife, Kathy, their daughters Madison and Kacy. /ppShe is predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Howard “Bud” Clark and David “Dave” Clark./ppCalling hours will be held at the on Thursday, December 01, 2016 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. pAll services for Lorraine “Margaret” Them, 83 of 2860 East Clinton Trail, Charlotte, Michigan will be in the spring and in the chapel of TLC Funeral Home, Inc. Internment will be in Roberts Corner Cemetery. Mrs. Them died at the Battle Creek Manor in Battle Creek, Michigan on November 22, 2016./ppMrs. Them was born in Watertown, NY on May 11, 1933 the daughter of John and Jessie Kruczkowski Beutel. She attended elementary school on through the eighth grade in Worth, NY and then completed her regency diploma and graduated from Adams Center High School. Mrs. Them graduated from the Watertown School of Nursing earning her licensed practical nurse degree./ppMrs. Them worked many years as a licensed practical nurse in New York, Florida, Arizona and Michigan. While living in New York, she worked for 18 months as an LPN at the Madonna Home in Watertown. She was the owner and operator of the Stone Street Convalescent Home during this same time for three years. /ppIn 1951, Mrs. Them married Ralph N. Rielly in Watertown, NY which whom she would have her five children with. The marriage would end in divorce in 1969. Mrs. Them moved to Tampa, Florida and was offered a position with Jennings Funeral Home, but instead chose to own and operate a boarding home for the Florida State Alcoholic Rehabilitation Program. In 1988, Mrs. Them sold the boarding home and returned to nursing and was a well sought after surgical nurse and supervisor in charge for Tampa General Hospital. /ppA previous marriage to Maynard Vance with whom she was married for several years until his passing./ppAfter retiring from nursing, Mrs. Them spent a year traveling throughout the United States including Alaska. She finally settled down in Charlotte, Michigan where she met Earling Them whom she married on December 30, 1998. Mr. Them died June 10, 2016. /ppMrs. Them was a member of the Polish Club while living in Florida and the VFW Post 2406 in Charlotte, Michigan. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking for veteran functions at the VFW, reading, and crocheting./ppIn lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Hospice of Jefferson County or the SPCA of Jefferson County. /ppSurviving are her five children and their spouses Ralph M. Rielly of Hawley, PA, Patrick and Peggy Rielly of Sackets Harbor, NY, Albert and Nancy Rielly of DeKalb Junction, NY, Elizabeth O’Meara of Carthage, NY, and Mrs. Gerald (JoAnn) Rielly Ives of Watertown. Also surviving are her grandchildren PJ Rielly of Adams Center, NY, September Totten and Tracey Maloney both of Hawley, PA, Kristen Rielly of Russell, NY, Justin Rielly of Rochester, NY and a great grandson Tristan Rielly of Russell, NY. Mrs. Them is also survived by her only living sister Joan Roach and her companion of many years Paul Doyle of Watertown, NY, and several nieces and nephews. /ppMrs. Them is predeceased by her 5 brothers Theodore, John “Mick”, Walter, William and Richard Beutel, her sister Barbara Beutel,, her granddaughter Nikki Maitland and a son in law Patrick O’Meara. /ppThe family of Mrs. Them would like to thank the nurses at the Manor of Battle Creek and Colleen and Staff at Hospice of Jefferson County for all their prayers, compassion and strength of will that kept me grounded during the last few months of my mother’s illness and her recent passing. pNewport, RI. – Clorinda Anna Pagliaro Edick, 84, most recently of 63 Briarwood Ave., Middletown, RI, died Saturday, November 26th, 2016 at Brookdale Sakonnet Bay Senior Living with Hospice at Visiting Nurse Services of Newport./ppClorinda, known best to all of her friends and acquaintances as “Peg”, was born in Dolgeville, NY on July 3rd, 1932 to Joseph and Anna Pagliaro. ‘Peg’ was the last surviving Pagliaro sibling, having lost her brother, Rocco, in World War II and her sister, Theresa, to cancer almost 40 years ago. Peg grew up in Dolgeville, was very active in sports of any kind and graduated from Dolgeville Central High School in the top of her class and as a member of the National Honor Society in 1950. She was married to Robert V. Edick on May 6th, 1951 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dolgeville, NY, where they lived for several years and started their family./pp“Peg’ and Bob moved with their children, John, Paul and Annette Edick to Lowville, NY in 1966. For several years after arriving in Lowville, ‘Peg’ could be found behind the counter at Meda’s Drug Store or at the reception desk of the Duflo Insurance Agency. Most of all, she could be seen at just about any and all sports events that Lowville Academy participated in. /ppAs a lover of all sports, from the time she arrived in Lowville until she relocated to Rhode Island to be close to family for health reasons, ‘Peg’ became something of an institution as a fan, friend, volunteer and mentor. She assisted in the revival of AAU swimming in Lowville in the 1970’s. She was also a respected swimming and diving official in NY State high school swimming, officiating at numerous league championship events./pp‘Peg’ was also a beloved member of the Congregation and Choir at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Her inability to continue as a parishioner, choir member and volunteer due to declining health was one of her most disheartening life changes. ‘Peg’ Edick loved being involved. She loved working with kids and volunteering as a teacher aide at LACS. ‘Peg’ contributed to the Lowville community in so many ways that it is hard to truly gauge the impact she had on the many lives she touched./ppAlong with her passion for sports “Peg” enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, reading and writing short stories. More than anything “Peg” loved her family and the title of “Grammy”. Caring for her Grandchildren and attending their sporting, musical, theatrical and scholastic events provided tremendous joy./pp‘Peg’ is survived by her son John Edick and wife Linda Gillette of Newport, RI, son Paul Edick and wife Linda Szyper of Chicago, IL, daughter Annette Darling of Middletown, RI, 5 grandchildren; Andrew, Alexa, Ryan, Lauren and August, and 6 great grandchildren; Kaitlin, Olivia, Kenyon, Henry, Griffin and Gretta./ppCalling hours will be held at the Sundquist Funeral Home in Lowville, NY on Wednesday November 30th from 11:00am to 1:30pm. A special mass will be said for ‘Peg’ at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville on Wednesday, November 30th at 2:00pm.
