OGDENSBURG-A Memorial Mass for Margaret Ann Sears, 78, of Ogdensburg will be celebrated on Friday, April 21st, 2017 at Notre Dame Church at 10 a.m. with Rev. F. James Shurtleff as celebrant. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. Mrs. Sears died Saturday morning, April 1, 2017 at her home.

Donald Robinson

Port Leyden: Wm. Donald Robinson, 90 of Kelpytown Rd died Saturday March 25 in Manassas, Va, where he had resided for the past two years.

He was born April 2, 1926 in Scotia, NY the son of William C and Adelaide VanDenburgh. A WWII, veteran, He served with the United states Army from Oct. 11, 1944 until July 24, 1946.

He married Rosemary Fraser Aug. 20, 1950 in St. Martin’s Rectory, Port Leyden. She died April 24, 2002. He was employed as a bus driver for south Lewis Central school, Turin and had previously been employed at Beaverite. He owned and operated his own print shop in Port Leyden.

He was as active member of the JS Koster Hose Company for over 50 years. He enjoyed snowmobiling, and was a Civil War and WWII enthusiast and participated in reenactments.

He moved to Manassas in 2014.

He is survived by one son Bill of Masassas Park, Va., two granddaughters Ashleigh Mongue and her husband Gary of Warrenton, Va and Alyssa Robinson of Manasssas park, Va.; two great-grandchildren Aiden and Arya Mongue of Warrenton, Va.

Also surviving is one sister Jean Parry of Schenectady (formerly of Brantingham).

A Graveside service will be held May 6 at 1:00 PM in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden with Deacon Jim Chaufty, officiating. A luncheon will follow in the Port Leyden Fire Hall.

On Thursday, March 30, 2017, the angels came to welcome home Grayson Ridge Sochia, 5 mos., the son of Gary Sochia and Patti-Jo Morrow. Grayson was born, October 23, 2016 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, four months premature, he proved to be a true fighter when the odds were stacked against him.

Grayson is survived by his parents, a brother Wyatt Sochia; maternal grandmother Lorraine Morrow and paternal grandparents, Gary and Shirley Sochia. Also surviving are several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Grayson is predeceased by his maternal great-grandfather, Richard Morrow; maternal great-grandparents Marion and Al Winney; paternal great-grandparents Oscar and Alice Sochia and Ethel and William Brown.

There will be a funeral service for Grayson on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 5:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Michael Terrell, officiating. Dorothy Delles

Dorothy Delles, 93, of NYS Rt. 3, Felts Mills, passed March 29, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Born on April 18, 1923 in Belleville, NY, daughter of Lyle W. and Mabel V. (Fuller) Nichols, she was the twelfth generation descendent of John Howland who arrived on the May Flower. She attended Freeman Creek School in the Town of Rodman and Adams Center High School.

She married Leo A. Delles on October 15, 1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Evans Mills. The couple resided in Felts Mills. Her husband passed in January of 1996.

Dorothy went to work at Mercy Hospital in October of 1963 and worked as a house keeping aid in the Madonna Home until 1985.

She was a member of the Watertown Baptist Temple, Champion Grange, Life Member and on the Board of Directors of the 4 Rivers Historical Society, Daughters of 1812, Felts Mills Fire Department Auxiliary, Life Member of the Philadelphia American Legion Auxiliary and the Daughters of the Revolutionary War.

Among her survivors are two brothers and a sister in law, Bernard and Jean Nichols, Georgia, John Nichols and his companion Son Yae Nicholson, Carthage; three sisters and a brother in law, Marcella Reasoner, Watertown, Myrtle Hadley, Carthage, Sheila and Charles Lennox, Virginia Beach, VA; several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.

A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at the Watertown Baptist Temple.

Burial will follow in the Black River Cemetery.

Ruth M. Shaw

Ruth M. Shaw, 66, of 14804 Autumn Ridge Lane, Watertown, passed April 3, 2017 at her home where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

A Memorial Service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, April 7 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown with Rev. Chris Carrera, Pastor of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

Calling hours will precede the service Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born on August 27, 1950 in Watertown, daughter of Basil R. and Shirley D. (Jaquith) Cleary, she graduated from IHC in 1968.

Following school she trained at St. Joseph’s Hospital to become a certified operating room technician. She worked at Mercy Hospital for twenty years as an operating technician from 1970 to 1990. She became a corrections officer for the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Department and served from 1990 up until she retired in 2010. She was a very dedicated instructor and highly respected field training officer.

She married Emery Shaw on July 1, 1979 in the Town of Champion. He worked for the City of Watertown and retired as the assistant foreman in the automotive shop.

Ruth enjoyed traveling, reading, and crossword puzzles.

Among her survivors are her loving husband, Emery W. Shaw, Watertown; her chosen daughter and son in law, Tami and Jim Bovard, Interlaken, NY; her stepdaughter and husband, Melinda and Carl Robbins, Watertown; six grandchildren, Christine Poirer, Courtney Delaney, Lyndsey Robbins, Rachel Robbins, Dustin Bovard and Micki-Rai Bovard; six sisters and two brothers in law, Toni D. and Don Pacifici, Canton, GA, Bernadette A. Nolan, Troy, NY, Penny M. Coker, Watertown, Mary A. St.Clair, Watertown, Lou Ann Bell, Watertown, Bridget S. and Rick Coleman, Clayton; three brothers and a sister in law, Alan B. and Marie Cleary, Albuquerque, NM, Patrick J. Cleary, Theresa, Mark E. Cleary, Watertown, several nieces and nephews; in addition Ruth’s best friend Angela Burns’ children Renee, Allison and Ryan Murphy who have always been in her life.

A daughter Christine “Chrissy” Cleary died December 17, 1976.

Kathryn A. Cassoni, 75, of West St. Road, died Monday morning, April 3, 2017 while under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Kay was born October 23, 1941 in Carthage, the daughter of the late Leonard and Kathryn (George) Kempney. She married John P. Cassoni on July 27, 1963 at St. James Church in Carthage with Rev. Francis X. Campbell officiating. John died on September 27, 1997 after suffering a heart attack. Kay was the manager at the former Augsbury Ultramart on State St. in Carthage for many years until its closing.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandkids, bowling, bingo, crocheting and playing computer games.

She is survived by two daughters: Cindy Childers of Carthage and Mrs. Gerald (Tammy) Mack of Ogdensburg, two sons: Duane (Chris) Cassoni of Black River and John W. (Jennifer) Cassoni of Watertown, 6 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren, two sisters: Ruth Bickom of Rochester and Betty Endres of Watertown, one brother: Allen (Georgia) Kempney of Concord, AL and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Todd Allen Cassoni who died on May 13, 1978, two sisters, Shirley Shattuck and Joyce Shuemaker and a brother, Clinton George.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 7 at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage, with Rev. Donald A. Robinson, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 6 from 4-7pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.

Beverly Smith

Lyons Falls- Beverly (Jackson) Smith, 76, of Cherry St., widow of Frank, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Rome Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Turin, on January 10, 1941, a daughter of William A. and Helen Brown Jackson. Beverly grew up in Turin and graduated from General Martin High School, Glenfield, with the Class of 1959. Thereafter she was employed at Griffiss Airforce Base, Rome.

On June 27, 1959, Beverly was united in marriage with Frank C. Smith, at the Turin United Methodist Church. Afterwards the couple resided in Turin for many years before moving to Lyons Falls. Mr. Smith, a U.S. Army Veteran and retiree from Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper Co. passed away on June 11, 2003.

For many years until retiring in 2015, Mrs. Smith was employed as a school bus driver for South Lewis Central School District, in Turin. For several years she was also employed in the meat department at Lyons Falls Great American and at Foodland, in Boonville.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Turin United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She greatly enjoyed playing Bingo at the Turning Stone Casino. In earlier years Beverly greatly enjoyed bowling, participating in several bowling leagues in Boonville and Lowville.

She is survived by one son, William E. Smith, Lyons Falls; three daughters, Debra (Maynard B.) Hirschey, Glenfield, Denise Rhone, Madison, Alabama and Dianne Smith, Lyons Falls; three grandchildren, Katie Lynn Butts, Kellie Ann Smith and Frank Hirschey and one brother, William D. (Patricia) Jackson, Lowville.

Nicole S. B. Garnsey, 40, of 10742 County Rt. 9, Clayton, passed April 3, 2017 at the Claxton- Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Born on July 31, 1976 in Watertown, daughter of Donald J. and Brenda K. Jantzi Berry, she graduated from Lyme Central School in 1994 as Valedictorian. She then studied Chemistry at St. Lawrence University and received a Pre -Med Degree. While at St. Lawrence she studied abroad for a semester at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She then went to Syracuse University and graduated with a Masters Degree in Nutrition Science.

Following school she went to work for Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center as a Registered Dietician and Nutritionist for eight years. In 2010 she opened Feed the Soul Nutrition, Inc. in Watertown which she owned and operated up to the present time. During that time she also worked as a nutrition consultant for various hospitals in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence County. Nicole earned a certificate and became a diabetes educator in NNY in which she was only one of three people to achieve this honor.

She married Kenneth F. Garnsey Jr. on September 22, 2001 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clayton. Mr. Garnsey currently works at Thousand Islands Central School District.

Nicole also owned Nicky’s Nook a fashion boutique, enjoyed cross country skiing, snowshoeing, gardening, boating, watching Hunter’s hockey, baseball and soccer games, and most of all enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Among her survivors are her beloved husband and son, Kenneth F. Garnsey Jr. and Hunter T. Garnsey, Clayton; her loving parents, Donald J. and Brenda K. Berry, Chaumont; a brother and sister in law, Brad M. and Nicole E. Berry, Chaumont; her paternal grandmother, Anna Mae Russell, Lowville; her mother and father in law, Lisa and Edwin Bazinet, Clayton; two sisters in law; Brooke Basinet and her fiance Scott Rose, Clinton, Sara and Michael Matthews, Clayton; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and numerous friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Clayton, with the Rev. Arthur J. LaBaff, Pastor officiating.

Following the Mass a Celebration of Life will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall 460 James St., Clayton where family will receive friends until 5 p.m.

A memorial services for Earl W. “Butch” Phillips, age 69 of Ogdensburg will be held at 11:00am on Friday (April 7, 2017) at the Grace Baptist Church on Greene Street in Ogdensburg with Pastor Harold “Yogie” Best officiating. Burial will follow services at Grove Street Cemetery in Gouverneur.

Calling hours will be held also on Friday from 9-11am at the church prior to the services. Mr. Phillips passed away at his home unexpectedly on Sunday (April 2, 2017).

Surviving is his wife Bonnie; two sons Scott Phillips, Carl Phillips & his companion Heather Perry; and a daughter Michelle Phillips all of Ogdensburg; a brother Bruce (Brenda) Phillips of Florida; two sisters Jane (John) Fleming of Sturgis, SD and Trudy (Chris) Ellis of Gouverneur; along with three grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins. Three brothers Larry, Vance & David Phillips predeceased him.

Butch was born on August 7, 1947 in Watertown NY, a son of the late Vance & Carol (Walton) Phillips. He graduated from Gouverneur High School and entered the US Army from 1966 to 1969 as a Military Police Officer. Following his discharge, he later married Bonnie Lindsay on January 24, 1970 at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

During his career he worked at the Natural Dam Paper Mill, and as an open pit miner most of his life in Parachute, CO. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to hockey games, playing softball and bowling, joking around with others, his dogs and spending time with his family. Joan Kilroy

Joan Kilroy, 72, of Colton, New York, passed away March 23, 2017 at the University of Vermont Medical Center, Burlington, Vermont.

She was born March 12, 1945, in Potsdam, New York, the daughter of Viola and John Kilroy. She graduated Potsdam High School in 1963, and attended Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg, New York. She entered the order of The Sisters of Saint Joseph, in Watertown, New York, and later earned a Master’s Degree through La Salle University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

After teaching for many years while a member of the order, she later worked as a director at United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton, New York, then became an administrator at Rose Hill Rehabilitation Center in Massena, New York. The final portion of her career was with the Saint Lawrence County Juvenile Court System. Additionally, she served on the zoning board of her community in Colton, New York.

Joan was avidly interested in American history, travelling, baseball, stamp collecting, and researching her family’s ancestry. She was also a passionate, lifelong fan of the New York Yankees.

She is survived by a brother, George Kilroy, of Piscataway, New Jersey; a sister, Jane Eisenburg, of Kingston, New York; two nephews, two nieces, as well as a grand nephew and grand niece. For the last several decades, she lived with her best friend, Sally Murray, who was considered family to her.

The family will have a private memorial at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, Colton, New York, in the spring.

SOUTH COLTON— Graveside services for 73 year old Thomas W. Perry, a resident of 4381 State Highway 56, South Colton, will be held at a later date in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Hopkinton. Mr. Perry passed away on March 30, 2017 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. Thomas is survived by his wife, Jean Ramsey Perry, his twin sons, Tim and Thomas Jr and Wendy Burch, all of Syracuse; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a sister Donna Perry, Watertown.

Born in Potsdam, NY on July 21, 1943 to the late Armond and Ellen Rosenbarker Perry, Thomas worked for the City of Syracuse as an equipment operator and also worked at Syracuse University as a cook. After his retirement, Thomas moved to South Colton, a place that he loved. He was a member of the Norwood American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963 and re-enlisted until 1965. Shaw, a resident of 3321 County Rt. 47, Norwood, will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Knapp’s Station Community Church with Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding. Mr. Shaw passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Garry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Renee; two brothers, Dean and Sue Shaw, Southwick, MA; Robert Shaw, Bloomingdale, NY; his four sisters, Shirley and Joe Pickerign, Saranac Lake; Gloria and Robert Woodward, Schuyler Falls; Jean McGill, Troy, NY; Nona and Gill Miron, Saranac Lake and several nieces, nephews and a lifelong friend, Jim Walker and family. Garry was pre-deceased by a brother, Jon Shaw.

Born in Saranac Lake, NY on June 27, 1944 to the late Gerald and Dada Hale Shaw, Garry married Renee L. Vincent on August 7, 1971. Garry was an accomplished machinist and worked as an engineer for O.A. Inc., located in Agawam, Massachusetts for 35+ years, retiring in 2006. Garry had a love of the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Agawam Revolver Club in Massachusetts.
