Virginia Pike

MASSENA – Mrs. Virginia Lorraine (Nuffer) Pike, 95, a resident of the St. Regis Nursing Home, peacefully passed away Monday morning, October 9, 2017 with her loving family by her side.

Virginia was born November 29, 1921 in Beaver Falls, New York, the daughter of the late Llewellyn “Bud” and Nellie (Manzer) Nuffer. She was a 1939 graduate of Beaver River Central School and a 1942 graduate of the Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. On April 26, 1942, she married Dr. John Benton Pike in Auburn, New York. He predeceased her on January 21, 1993.

Virginia dedicated her life to raising her six daughters and assisted her husband with his medical practice as needed. As a Registered Nurse, she volunteered countless hours to the American Red Cross during local blood drives. She was a longtime member of the Emmanuel Congregational United Church of Christ. As a flower lover and gardener, she was active with Massena Garden Club and enjoyed playing bridge with the Massena Bridge Club. Virginia also had a great love for music, especially playing the piano and singing.

Virginia also treasured entertaining for her family and friends and baking and cooking for them. Of all her enjoyments, she cherished the time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at her home or at the family camp on Lake Champlain.

Virginia is survived by her six daughters, Jeanette Mayo of St. Johnsbury, Vermont; Mary Jane Schremp and her husband, John of Hudson, Ohio; Valerie Dunning and her husband, William of Moira; Patricia Ryan and her husband, Robert of Beaver Falls; Virginia Sullivan and her husband, Thomas of Massena; and Vanessa Denning and her husband, D. Seth of Delmar. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren, Erin (Mayo) Gurnis, Darcy (Mayo) Dugas, Caitlin (Schremp) Bowdish, Keely (Dunning) Flint, Joshua Dunning, Lindsey Ryan, Mary Elizbeth (Ryan) Tucker, Benton and Emily Sullivan, and Leigh and Evan Denning; and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Martin; her brother, Charles Nuffer; and a son-in-law, Bernier Mayo.

Friends may call at the Emmanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, West Orvis Street, Massena, on Thursday, October 12th from 1:30 until 3:00 PM, when her funeral service will commence with Pastor Judy VanKennan, officiating. Burial will be held privately in Evergreen Cemetery, Canton.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Massena Memorial Hospital or the St. Regis Nursing Home.

John Elliott

Hon. John J. Elliott, 75, of Fulton, died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at home with family by his side. Born on March 31, 1942 in Peekskill, NY, he was a son to the late Alton W. Elliott, a varsity basketball coach and athletic director, and Carolyn Whitney Elliott, a career teacher. In 1954 at age 12, John was a pitcher for the Kiwanis state championship baseball team from Ogdensburg. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy, Ogdensburg, NY in June of 1960. John earned a B.A. in History from Hamilton College in June 1964 and was a four year member of the men’s basketball team. After Hamilton, he attended Sir George Williams University in Montreal, Quebec from 1964 to 1965 where he studied biology and earned first team all-star honors playing on the basketball team.

John traveled the world playing professional basketball for the Washington Generals for two years from 1965 to 1967, matched against the Harlem Globetrotters in venues including an Italian soccer stadium (Stadio Bentegodi), Wembley Field and even a private game for the British Royal Family.

John was a history teacher and varsity men’s basketball coach in Sackets Harbor, NY from 1967 to 1968. He then attended Albany Law School beginning in 1968 and graduating in 1971. John served as an Oswego County Assistant District Attorney from 1974 to 1982 and was the Oswego County District Attorney from 1982 to 1988. John was then the Oswego County Surrogate’s Court Judge from 1988 until 2012 when he retired from the bench at age 70. He also served as an Acting Justice of the New York State Supreme Court from 1991 until his retirement, presiding over a wide range of cases in Oswego, Onondaga, Oneida, Jefferson and Lewis Counties. He taught Town and Village Justices as a program director for the NYS Office of Court Administration for many years and also lectured and spoke at numerous seminars, conferences and academies. He was a history buff, loved discussing the law, enjoyed golf and was a car enthusiast. He was renowned for his wit and humor among his many friends.

John is survived by his loving family; wife of 42 years, Mary Seymour Elliott of Fulton; children, Maureen of New York City, Lucien (Natalie) of Syracuse and Matthew of New York City; sisters, Elizabeth of Washington D.C. and Louise of Oakland, CA as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law.

Calling hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 12 at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 13 at Holy Trinity Church, corner of Rochester and South Third Streets, Fulton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton Historical Society or to Friends of Oswego County Hospice.

Fredrick Phelps

EVANS MILLS- Fredrick L. Phelps, 80, of Evans Mills, NY formerly of Felts Mills, NY passed away Sunday October 8, 2017 surrounded by his children at home under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County. Born on March 5, 1937, the son of the late Melvin & Dora Wagoner Phelps. Fred served in the United States Army Reserves with an honorable discharge in 1959. Before purchasing his farm (Alfalfa Acres) located in Champion in 1962, Fred drove school bus and milk truck. He was a dairy farmer most of his life retiring in 1982.

He then drove tractor trailer for several companies before driving bus and seasonal snow removal for Department of Defense on Fort Drum. He went on to move equipment across the country for Bennett Motors. During his spare time he was caretaker of Evergreen Cemetery located down the road from his farm Alfalfa Acres. Fred formally retired 4 years ago as a grounds superintendent with Jefferson Agricultural Society (Jefferson County Fair) after suffering a stroke.

He married Millie Jesmore on July 21, 1973. A previous marriage to Mary Prievo (Mono) ended in a divorce.

Fred is survived by wife, Millie, longtime friend and caregiver, Linda Persha, his children, Debbie & Stan Atkins, Carthage, Claude & Valerie Phelps, Felts Mills, Robin Joyce of San Antonio, TX, Angie & Mike Kerry of Evans Mills, Fred & Sheri Phelps of Felts Mills, Melvin & Jennifer Phelps of Copenhagen and Alfreda Augustus & Matt Stewart of Ellisburg, NY, a brother Francis & Beverly Phelps of Rutland. He is also survived by 23- grandchildren, 14 -great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many “adopted” children.

He is predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Julie Ann, a sister Gertrude Davis, and brothers Jack Phelps, Claude Phelps, Robert Phelps and Ronald Odell.

Fred served as a Councilman for the Town of Rutland for a number of years. He was a member of the Thousand Islands Blue Grass Society, a director for Jefferson Bulk Milk, a 50 year member of Carthage/Great Bend and South Rutland Valley Grange, Jefferson County Pomona Grange, NYS and National Granges. Fred also served as NYS Deputy Master for the Grange as well. Fred was an honorary director with the Jefferson County Agricultural Society where he was grounds superintendent for the Jefferson County Fair for several years. He was a previous active member of the Black River Ambulance Squad.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 3pm – 7pm at the Lundy Funeral Home; located at 500 State Street, Carthage, NY. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at 11:00am on Thursday October 12, 2017 at the Lundy Funeral Home as well with The Rev. Jane Wagner officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Claude Gates

GOUVERNEUR – Claude R. Gates, age 103, of Gouverneur, passed away on October 7, 2017 at home under private and hospice care.

There will be a graveside service in the Riverside Cemetery, Section Q, in Gouverneur on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with military honors. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

Claude was born on July 1, 1914 in Gouverneur, one of 16 children born to the late Claude H. and Agnes (Shortt) Gates. He graduated from the Gouverneur High School in 1935. Claude played the trumpet with the Don Bulger dance orchestra from 1933 – 1938 throughout the North Country and Western Florida. He also played the alto horn with the Gouverneur Senior Citizens Band, playing weekly concerts in the park.

In March of 1941, Claude was drafted into the United States Army where he lived in tents all summer as part of the 12th Infantry Division. He promoted up to Sergeant and then Master-Sergeant before his honorable discharge on June 28, 1945. He received the American Defense Service Medal with 1 bronze star, the American Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Gates married Alma R. Bancroft on November 20, 1940 at the St. James Catholic Church and honeymooned at Rockaway Beach, NJ. Alma passed away on December 1, 2003 after a long illness.

Claude retired from the Natural Dam Paper Mill in 1983 after 23 years of employment there. He previously worked at Gouverneur Talc from 1948 – 1960 and the NYC Railroad from 1945 – 1948. He was a charter member of the Gouverneur Elks Lodge #2035, a member of St. James Church, and in the late 1950’s was appointed by Sherriff Lefty Allen to head the Auxiliary Police (Civil Defense) to work under the direction of the Gouverneur Police Department.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he is predeceased by his brothers, Yale, Paul Kenneth, Jerome and James Kermit “Bill”; and sisters, Vena Davey, Orpha Bennett, Ann Brown, Teresa Mary Butler, Mary Moran, Elenor J. “Betty” Gates, Rita Gates, Edith Gates, and Leonilda “Jane” Gates.

Agnes Gaffney

Agnes D. Siedlecki Gaffney, 94, of Watertown passed away in the emergency room at Samaritan Medical Center on Monday, October 9, 2017.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Friday, October 13, from 5 - 8PM. A prayer service will be at the funeral home at 9:15AM on Saturday, October 14, followed by the funeral mass celebrated at 10AM at Holy Family Church with Rev. Steven Murray, pastor, presiding. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.

Agnes was born in Deferiet on January 4, 1923, daughter of Joseph and Anna Tunia Siedlecki and she graduated from Carthage High School. On May 29, 1945 she married Ambrose J. Gaffney at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Sullivan officiating. Mr. Gaffney died April 16, 2003.

Mrs. Gaffney worked for NY Telephone Co., then in the maternity ward at Mercy Hospital. She was a secretary for National Cash Register Co., and then for the Watertown City School District in the medical department. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of the Precious Blood Auxiliary. She was a member of American Legion Post 61 Auxiliary, Home Bureau, and the Watertown Golf Club.

She is survived by her two sons, John J. Gaffney, Watertown and Michael A. Gaffney and wife, Nicole, Discovery Bay, CA; two grandchildren, Kevin and Erin; great granddaughter, Sasha and great grandson, Luke; two sisters, Sue Staab, Carthage, and Helen Piroli, Deferiet; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her five brothers, John, Julius, Alexander, Stanley, and Edward Siedlecki, and sister, Pauline Vars, died before her.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Laura, Cindy, and Nicole, and all the friends who visited in the last few years. Marilyn Adams

Marilyn K. Adams, 93, Sherman St., Watertown, passed away peacefully at the Samaritan Medical Center on Sunday, October 8. For the past 9 months Mrs. Adams has been a resident of the Samaritan Summit Village.

The funeral will be held at 10 am Friday, October 13 at the First Presbyterian Church, Washington St., with Rev. Fred Garry officiating. Burial will follow in the North Watertown Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, October 12, from 4 pm – 7 pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home.

Mrs. Adams is survived by two daughters, Martha L. Adams, Dexter, and Linda (Michael) Flanagan, Watertown; a son Steven W. (Vanessa) Adams, Clayton; 5 grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Wallace, Kathleen (Lucas) Savoy, Cora J. Adams, Grace Marilyn Adams, and Jillian Drake; 5 great-grandchildren (Amelia, Madeline, Rowen, Benjamin, William); a brother-in-law, Earl VanNess, Watertown; and many nieces and nephews. Marilyn was predeceased by brothers and sisters Edward and Donald Kraus, Arlene Scharer, Roslyn LaMark, and Viola VanNess.

Born in Watertown on May 15, 1924 to George W. and Mary H. Coleman Kraus, she graduated from Watertown High School in 1942. Marilyn worked for the New York Telephone Co. following graduation, leaving as a supervisor with the company after her marriage to William B. Adams on August 23, 1947. Mr. Adams, a 40-year New York Telephone Co. retiree and veteran and POW of WWII, passed away September 23, 2000.

Anyone who had met Marilyn knew her as one of the kindest people in the world. She lived an incredible life with a servant heart - always smiling, forever positive - always living in service to others. She was a co-founder and long-time board member of the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center (JRC) 63 years ago, as well as one of the longest members of First Presbyterian Church. She was a volunteer at the House of the Good Samaritan (and later the Samaritan Medical Center) for over 35 years. She was a recipient of the volunteer-of-the-year award from the Religious Education for People with Disabilities group, among other volunteer awards. She was a devoted mother (particularly in the life-long care of her disabled daughter), grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, and friend.

CARTHAGE - Candace E. “Candy” Babcock, 61, of Astafan Lane, died on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse where she had been a patient for a few days.

She was born on May 26, 1956 in Lyons Falls, NY, a daughter of the late Charles B. and Christina M. Babcock Miles. She graduated from Carthage Central High School in the Class of 1975. She worked for the James River Paper Co. for 20 years, before working for Kraft in Lowville until retirement due to health issues. She was previously married to Rick Babcock.

She is survived by two sons, Eric (Danielle) Babcock, Philadelphia, NY; Lance Babcock, Watertown, NY; a sister, Pamela J. (Terry) Babcock, Georgia; and two brothers; Timothy J. (Rita M.) Miles, Norway, ME; Richard A. (Sherry) Miles, Mechanic Falls, ME. She is also survived by an aunt, Donna Davis, Carthage; an uncle, Donald Babcock, Florida; an aunt, Ruth Meyer, Castorland; an uncle, Michael Babcock, Florida; as well as eight nieces, five nephews and several cousins. She also leaves behind her best friends; Kathy Britton and Cheri Schroy as well as her two grand puppies; Krypto and Jagger.

She is predeceased by four brothers, Randolph, Thomas, Charles and Terrance Miles.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Bassett-Baxter American Legion Post #789, Carthage on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 3:00 PM. Theodore D. Weisberg, 81, longtime resident of Omar and Kring Point, passed away Tuesday morning in Watertown.

Ted was born July 10, 1936 in Syracuse, the son of Jack and Abigale Serlin Weisberg. He graduated from Manlius High School and then Syracuse University. A marriage to Jane Geller ended in divorce. Ted married Ann Elliot on October 14, 1988 at their family farm in Omar.

Ted dabbled in a variety of professions over his lifetime. For many years and most recently he was a real estate agent for Garlock Realty, Alexandria Bay. He was a member of the Antique Boat Museum and the Alexandria Township Historical Society

Besides his wife, Ann he is survived by his son Matthew and wife Alexandra, Miami, FL; his daughter Kelly Companario and her husband Agistino, Issaquah, WA; and eight grandchildren. His son, Jon passed away on February 25th, 2017, and his sister, Doreen Broudy passed away on February 23rd, 2017.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 at Costello Funeral Home in Alexandria Bay. The burial on Friday at Omar Cemetery will be private. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Edgewood Resort, Alexandria Bay, on Friday starting at 2:00 pm.

Douglas DeVoe

Boonville- Douglas A. DeVoe, 60, of Webster Hill Road, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. At Oneida Health Care Extended Care Facility, Oneida, while surrounded by the loving care of his family.

Doug was born in Lowville, on July 4, 1957, a son of Charles Leonard and Netina McIntyre DeVoe. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm, on rt. 12D, near Locust Grove and received his education at South Lewis Central School, graduating with the Class of 1975. While in high school, Doug attended Howard G. Sackett B.O.C.E.S. Center, Glenfield, where he majored in auto mechanics.

After completing his education, he was employed on his family’s dairy farm, before ten years of employment as an auto mechanic for Ron Topa, at Boonville Alignment. Thereafter, for twenty five years Mr. DeVoe was employed as a Line Technician at Kraft Foods, Inc. of Lowville, retiring in December, 2012.

Doug lived for and greatly loved his children and grandchildren. He was an avid tractor pulling fan, having been a contestant in many tractor pulls. His favorite tractor pulling personality was Danny Thomas who drove a red International Tractor known as “Satisfaction.” He also greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, boating and he was a highly skilled intricate wood worker whose specialty was making fine picture frames and wooden figurines.

His marriage to Darlene E. Hill, gifted Doug and Darlene with four wonderful children; daughters, Denise C. DeVoe and significant other, Edward Mihalko, Boonville, Jennifer R. (Trevor) St. John, Lee Center and one son, Nicholas (Cassie) DeVoe, Edwardsville, PA. Doug was predeceased by a son, Jeremiah Douglas DeVoe, in 1982. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Alexander, Andrew, Annalise, Jasper, Matthew and Theodore; his parents, Charles Leonard DeVoe, Boonville and Netina Kwasniewski, Boonville; sisters, Christina (Tom) Robinson, Rodman, Kim Strife, Boonville; brothers, Stanley, West Leyden, Scott, and his girlfriend Krista Bartelotte, Town of Watson several nieces and nephews; a special brother in law and best friend since birth, Roger (Donna) Myers, Port Leyden and a special uncle, Theodore McIntyre, II.

His Funeral will be Saturday, at 12 Noon at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where visitation hours will be from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367.

Charles Ptittie

Charles Onis Prittie, 94, of Ossineke Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.

He was born to Leonard G. and Helen A. (Underhill) Prittie in Natural Bridge, NY on April 29, 1923. After his service in WWII he married Iris Beryle (Birdie) Vollen. They moved to Ossineke in 1946. Charlie was a member of Ossineke United Methodist Church, Alpena-Hopper Masonic Lodge #199 and the Spruce VFW. After his retirement from Millwrights Local #1102, you could find him picking berries, cutting wood, making pocket crosses or taking care of elderly people (many of whom were several years his junior). As a life-long outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. Charlie was a man of God, known for the inlaid wooden crosses he made to give away, and for asking people “Has anyone told you that they love you, yet today?”

He will be missed by his children; Diane (Gary) Johnson of Spruce, MI, Richard (Kathy) Prittie of Ossineke, Patti (Brent) McCarley of Genesee, MI, Cal (Sharon) Prittie of Flushing, MI, three sisters; Florence Teuber, Carol (Dan) Herzig, Jane (Gil) Daby all of New York, ten grandchildren; Chad (Ann) Prittie, Brandi (Chris) Laundry, Jenny (Ray Meddaugh) Meyer, Kristin (Phillip) Carriveau, Jessica (Scott Pulaski) Prittie, Sean McCarley, Charley McCarley, Jason (Patti) Prittie, Jeff (Erika) Prittie, Beth Prittie, 12 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his church family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife “Birdie”, a son Charles “Jay”, infant daughter Donna, a brother Richard and three sisters; Evangeline Rorke, Frances Mannelino, and Ann Gaffney.

Charles Prittie has been taken for cremation by McWilliams Funeral Home – Alpena. Family and friends gathered on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Ossineke with Rev. Mrs. Mary S. Randazzo, 71, wife of Phil Randazzo, died Tuesday, Oct. 10th at St. Joe’s Hospital in Syracuse.

Funeral Services for David J. Poulton, age 80 of Heuvelton will be held at 11:00am on Monday Oct 16, 2017 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg, NY with Rev. Dr. Michael O’Donnell officiating. Burial will be at the Crown Cemetery in Morriston, Ontario Canada.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday Oct 15, 2017 from 1-4 & 6-8pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Poulton passed away on Tuesday (Oct 10, 2017) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility with his loving wife and dear friend Colleen Steele by his side.

Surviving is his wife Anna “Doreen” Poulton; a brother-in-law Donald Stewart of Puslinch, Ontario; two sister-in-laws Mary Helen Hohenadel & her husband Paul of Puslinch, Ontario and Nancy Skinner & her husband Larry of Listowel, Ontario along with many nieces, nephews & cousins. Two sister-in-laws Kaye Billingsley and Winnifred Stewart predeceased him.

David was born on June 10, 1937 in Galt Ontario, a son of the late John V. & Irene (Bettke) Poulton. He graduated from Guelph Ontario High School and continued his education at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam. He later married Anna “Doreen” Stewart on April 16, 1960 at the Duff’s Presbyterian Church in Morriston, Ontario.

After college, David began his career in music with the Massena Central School system in three elementary schools where he worked for four years. In 1964, it marked the beginning of something special when he acquired the position of instrumental music teacher and band director for Heuvelton Central. Throughout the three decades of dedication, David produced top notch marching band performances, which obtained numerous awards and a pristine reputation for perfection held by no other than the Heuvelton Central Marching Band. He retired in 1992.

David’s love for music enticed his membership in so many music organizations to include The National Association for Music Education, NYS Music Association, The St. Lawrence County Music Association where he was Past President, The Sacci Big Band in Watertown, The St. John’s Choir where he was a member and former choir director, The Professional Musicians of Central NY, a member of the Massena Masonic Lodge # 513 and honorary member of the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department.

His spare time allowed him to enjoy camping, playing with professional bands, being outdoors, mowing lawns, traveling, being with his wife Doreen and watching the Heuvelton Central School Band perform.

Gary Kehne

Gary Lee Kehne, 74, of 29022 NYS Rt. 37, Evans Mills, passed October 8, 2017 at his home.

Calling hours will be on Monday October 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, 117 N. Massey St., Watertown. The funeral service with military honors will follow the calling hours.

He was born on December 6, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska, son of Gerald and Hazle Mohler Kehne.

Following school he entered the military in 1962 and served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and National Guard. During that time he served in Vietnam and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendations Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged and retired on February 2, 2002 as a Staff Sergeant. While serving in the military he attended the University of Maryland, Swetzichen and West Germany.

Gary worked for the Samaritan Medical Center from September of 1976 until he retired on October 5, 2001 as Director of Environmental and Regulatory Affairs.

He married Vickie L. Habeeb on May 31, 1980 at the Trinity Episcopal Church. The couple resided in Watertown before moving to Evans Mills in 1983. Vickie was a physical therapist assistant at the Samaritan Medical Center from 1969 to 1981. She passed April 1, 2017.

Gary loved hunting, bow hunting and fishing. He was a hunting and bow hunter instructor and very involved with every aspect of hunting from teaching, guiding and wildlife management. He holds many records for hunting and fishing that still stand today. He and his wife traveled all over the world. He was a member of Safari International and Sables Organization.

He was predeceased by his wife Vickie, his parents, a sister Gloria Kehne, and a brother Lawrie Kehne.

Among his survivors are his daughter and wife, Colleen and Amanda Bellnier, Evans Mills with their two sons Oliver and Jackson; a son Christopher Kehne and his wife Kim Lever-Kehne with their children Gabriel and Acacia, Melbourne, Australia; three sisters and their husbands, Jerrie and Troy Four, Arkansas; Marlene and Richard Johnson, Montana and Joyce and Les Kennedy, Iowa; his in-laws Dale and Gloria Gardner, Canton, NY and Port Orange, FL; Nicholas and Susan Habeeb, Phoenix, AZ; Peter Habeeb and Michelle Rupp, Lansdale, PA along with many nephews and nieces.

BOONVILLE/LOWVILLE- Eleanor J. Field, 73, of Evergreen Drive, Boonville, formerly of Cascade Avenue, Lowville, died Monday, October 9, 2017 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Hospital, Utica.

The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Boonville, with Rev. Linda M. Logan, Rector, officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 in Evergreen Cemetery, Roberts Corners. Calling hours are from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville. She is survived by a step-daughter, Kimberly A. Field of Melrose, Massachusetts; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary E. and Ronald Terrillion of Lowville; nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, James R. Field, who died June 4, 2011.

Eleanor was born on December 26, 1943 in Lowville, NY, a daughter of the late Charles S. and Eloise L. Richmond Liscum. She graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School and Central City Business Institute, Syracuse. On October 12, 1974, she married James R. Field at Lowville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Robert Nay, officiating. Eleanor worked for the Lewis County Treasurer’s office and as Village Clerk for the Village of Lowville. Her memberships included the Zenith-Copenhagen Chapter OES #346 serving as Grand Chaplin of the State of New York and several times as Matron of Copenhagen chapter, Northern Cruisers, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Lewis County Historical Society.

She enjoyed fishing, motorcycling, boating and snowmobiling. Eleanor enjoyed antique cars, going to auctions, collecting postcards and Garfield memorabilia. She enjoyed genealogy, and exploring the history of Lewis County and Lowville. Eleanor enjoyed watching baseball and traveling on cruises to Hawaii and Alaska. She loved her pets, most recently Alex, and her dogs.

PARISHVILLE— There will be no services at this time for 83 year old Thais L. Martin, a resident of 9 Watkins Drive, Parishville, who passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017 at her home with family at her side. A private service for Thais and her late husband, Orrin, who just passed away 3 weeks prior on September 18, 2017, will be held at a later date. Thais is survived by a son, David and Charlene Martin, Parishville; two daughters, Marjorie Goldsmith, Manchester, NH; Irene Martin, Parishville; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a brother, Alan and Brenda James, Virginia. Thais was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband and a brother, Floyd D. “Jimmy” James.

Born in Massena, NY on May 24, 1934 to the late Floyd G. and Ruby A. Stata James, she graduated from high school and attended college. Thais worked at Carter’s Candy factory in Boston, Massachusetts for several years as well being a domestic engineer. She married Orrin Martin on November 3, 1952. Thais was a past member of the Parishville ATV Club and the Weller Mountain Club. She enjoyed going four wheeling with her husband and working on the trails.
