Robert K. Savage, 87, of Dexter, NY passed peacefully on Sunday November 5th at Samaritan Medical in the loving care of his family.
Born July 12, 1929 in Pillar Point. He worked and lived on his family farm for many years. He attended Dexter school. He had several accomplishments:
61 years as a member of the Dexter fire hall some of those being fire chief. Founding father of the Jefferson County Fish Advisory Board. Owned and operated Reel Time Fishing Charter Boat. Proud member of Dexter Legion and the Mason’s. Often found on the lake or on his front porch of his house, He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Savage, his parents Roswell Flower Savage and Elizabeth Reed Jackson and several brothers and sisters along with his beloved dog “Rusty”. Surviving is his sister Jean Bloom of Arizona, his children and grandchildren along with several great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Friday November 10th from 6-8pm at Johnson’s funeral home in Dexter. Funeral service will be Saturday November 11th at 11am at the Dexter Cemetery.

Wilbrod O. Paige
Gouverneur – Wilbrod O. “Bud” Paige, 93, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Riverledge Health Care in Ogdensburg.
Bud was born in Ogdensburg on September 6, 1924, the son of J. Edward and Eva Bayard Paige.
He attended St. Peter’s School in Ogdensburg and Massena High School. Bud served in the United States Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant.
Bud married Marie Anne Desgagne on June 9, 1945 at Sacred Heart Church in Massena with Fr. Michael Jarecki officiating.
Following his discharge from the service, Bud owned and operated Paige’s Variety Store on East Orvis Street in Massena and later worked for Baker’s Furniture in Massena. He then worked as a salesman and was part owner with his wife, Anne, of Gouverneur/Watertown Mattress which later became the Furniture Showcase in Gouverneur. His association with the store began in 1965, and the couple retired in 1987.
Bud was a “rabid” golfer, enjoyed bowling, spent time managing and promoting boxing and auto racing events, was a member of St. James Church, and was the last WW II veteran of the Madrid American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years Anne, his children Bruce Paige of Cape Vincent, Susan and Carmen Scoppa of Fairport, Mark Paige of Tappahannock, VA, Denise and George Way of Vero Beach, FL, Brian and Kathy Paige of Madrid, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, a sister Marie St. Thomas, 2 brothers Leo and Victor Paige, 3 half brothers Edgar, John, and Ernest Paige, a half sister Eva Lalonde, and a grandson Justin Way.
Calling hours are on Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, November 9th at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, Gouverneur with Rev. Richard B. Dunn, pastor of St. Mary’s of the Lake, Skaneateles, officiating and burial with military honors will be in New St. James Cemetery, Gouverneur.

David L. Shawcross
The funeral services for David L. Shawcross of 22168 Patricia Drive Watertown, NY will be private. Public calling hours will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at TLC Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Shawcross died at the Samaritan Medical Center on November 5, 2017. He was 69.
He was born in Watertown, NY the son of Frederick J. and Beatrice J. Fasset Shawcross on April 21, 1948. He married Deborah Cain on December 19, 1967 in Ridgeland, SC. He served in the US Army Reserves from 1967-1973. Mr. Shawcross was a maintenance worker for General Brown Elementary School for 31 years. He enjoyed music and playing rhythm guitar in several area bands including the band Kiss and the Cavaliers. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and cooking. Mr. Shawcross also enjoyed woodworking, fishing with his brother, Jon, loved his dogs Maggie and Gracie and socializing at the Sunoco station on Washington Street.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society. Surviving is his beloved wife Deborah, his three daughters and son in laws Mrs. Patrick (Hope) Kelly of Harrisville, NY, Mrs. Jon (Scarlett) Charlebois - Pelton of Pierrepont Manor, NY and Mrs. Mark (Tiffany) Marra of Watertown, NY, and his brother and sister in law John and Donna Shawcross of Altmar, NY, a sister Mrs. Timothy (Sandra) Besaw of Star Lake, NY, 11 grandchildren Maya Faith, Foster Cain, Tucker James, Ryan David, Griffin Paul, Anna Eileen, Landon Scott, Holden and Casey, Antonio David, Gabrielle Elizabeth, and his uncle Art whom he enjoyed solving the world’s problems and who made the better cars, Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Shawcross is also survived by four of his life long friends and bandmates Bill Corbett, Pinky Soluri, Tom Sawyer, and Bob Kissel.

Larry D. LaParr
HANNAWA FALLS – Mr. Larry D. LaParr, 60, of 2076 River Road and a longtime resident of Fine, New York, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 5, 2017 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a long battle with Amyloidosis.
Larry was born March 16, 1957 in Gouverneur, the son of the late George and Marion (Cole) LaParr. He was a graduate of Harrisville Central School, where he playing sports and was well known for his left-handed hook shot, resulting in the nickname “Kareem.” On September 26, 1981, he married Linda M. Tulip at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Star Lake with Msgr. Waterhouse, officiating.
Larry was a very dedicated and loyal worker throughout his life, working for 24 years at Newton Falls Paper Mill as a papermaker. After its closure, he started worked in the Physical Plant at SUNY Canton, where he continued for 14 years having to retire due to his illness. He also dedicated his time to his community as a member of the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Department and coached the Modified Girls Basketball team at Clifton-Fine Central School for many years. Larry had a great love for the outdoors – hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening were favorite pastimes. He had very generous spirit and would help anyone at anytime, anywhere.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his daughter, Jill Hosmer of Potsdam; his son-in-law, Matthew Hosmer of Potsdam; his granddaughter, Ava Hosmer; his sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Lynn Wood of Black Lake and Florida and Patsy and Robert Ford of Harrisville; and his brother and his wife, Garth “Butch” and Judy LaPar of Sun City Center, Florida. He is also survived by his wife’s siblings, Gary and Donda Tulip of Wyoming; Keith and Paula Tulip of Russell; Anne and Lynn Hanley of Star Lake; John Tulip; Debbie and Jeff Rixon of Star Lake; Sandra Tulip of Ogdensburg; and Theodore and Tasha Tulip of Ogdensburg; an aunt; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by an infant granddaughter, Ella Hosmer in 2013; and a nephew and godson, Matthew James Wood in 2003.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Potsdam, with Rev. Stephen Rocker, celebrating. A celebration of his life and luncheon will follow at the Potsdam Elks Lodge.

Marie Constance Leary
BLACK RIVER, NY- Marie Constance Leary, 87, died on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Samaritan Medical Center.

She was born to Ross B. Edus and Ruth (Constance) Edus in Rosiere, NY on July 20, 1930.
She graduated from Cape Vincent Central School in June 1949 earning 1/5th of a point shy of being the salutatorian.
Marie was employed by Jefferson Department of Social Services for 26 years, first at DSS Accounting Department and later at the Validation-Fraud Unit.
She is survived by her husband Eugene C. Leary. They were married in Laurel, Maryland at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on October 21, 1965.
She is also survived by two sons; Daniel M. Leary (Holly), Champion, NY, and Matthew R. Leary (Tina), Calcium, NY, a daughter, Rebecca A. Best (Brian), Black River, NY, two grandchildren; Madison and Bryce Leary, Champion, NY. Her brother, Lawrence Edus (Jeannette), Three Mile Bay, NY, a sister, Dolores A. Edus- Lawton (Bertha), Canada, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 11AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Black River, NY with a burial at the Black River Cemetery immediately following. There will be a reception at the Black River American Legion Post 673.

Martin F. Weaver, 67 of Chaumont, passed away Monday morning at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Martin was born May 24, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY the son of Leonard and Elizabeth Holleran Weaver. In 1942 the family moved to Huntersland and in 1956 to Massena.
He married Lois Sherman on May 15, 1954.
Martin worked for the Seaway Project with Buckley Mack Co. as a mechanic and after the couple moved to Watertown he worked was a mechanic for several businesses. In 1971 they moved to Chaumont and worked for Niagara Mohawk until retiring in 1992.
He is survived by three sons and one daughter: Joseph M and Genie Weaver of Lake Bonapart, David A. and Jo Weaver of Central Square, Gary P. and Dianne Weaver of Gouverneur, and Linda and David Raville of Chaumont. He has 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A brother George and Susan Weaver of Durham, NY and a sister Ann and Ray Lynch of Edgewater, Florida also survive.
A brother James Weaver and a sister Dorothy Bauer predeceased him.
He was a communicant of All Saints Church of Chaumont and Immaculate Conception Church of Brownville.

Mary A. Martin
GOUVERNEUR - Mary A. Martin, age 88, of Gouverneur, passed away on November 3, 2017 in Syracuse.
Mary was born on August 2, 1929 in the Village of Gouverneur to the late Charles S. and Mary B. (Lawrence) McAdam. She attended Dean High School in Gouverneur. She married William J. Martin on February 7, 1946 at her parents’ home in Gouverneur with Rev. Harold A. Thomas of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church officiating. She and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in Fowler from 1951 until 1973. She lived in Gouverneur all of her life and enjoyed spending winters in Lady Lake, Florida. Mr. Martin passed away on January 11, 2009.
Mary is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gouverneur. She is a former Sunday School Teacher, a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group where she was past president, 4-H Leader for 40 years, Marble City Order of Eastern Stars #92 where she was past matron and District Deputy of the 1st St. Lawrence District and Grand Representative of Alabama near the Grand Chapter of New York.
Mary is survived four sons, David J. (Teri) of Fowler, Dwayne W. of Gouverneur, William J. (Nancy) of Kinderhook, NY and Allen D. (Beth) of Gouverneur; a daughter, Barbara A. Hanley-Vogel of Montgomery, Alabama; 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and a Brother Clarence J. McAdam of Gouverneur. She is also survived by her extended family; Sharon (Harry) Chilton, Laura McAdam, Loretta Ellison and John (Cindy) McElroy.
She is predeceased by three brothers Charles E., Donald A. and E. Paul McAdam; a sister, Charlotte Seaman; two half-sisters Margaret Wilkson and Helen Ditmar; and two sons-in-law, Thomas Hanley and Jerry Vogel.
Calling hours will be from 2 – 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017 at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur and the funeral service will be at 11:00am on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Gouverneur with Rev. Beth Quick officiating. Burial will follow at Hailesboro Cemetery.

Leora was born to F.P. Durant and Frances Russell in Bombay, NY on August 17th, 1930. She attended Madrid School and later stayed home to help on her father’s farm. Leora then married Francis White on November 29th, 1947 and was blessed with two children Sandra (Joseph DeFranco) and Ronald White (Joan Graham). Leora and Francis were known for owning and operating the Evansmills Racetrack but most importantly known for their junkyard, White’s Scrap Iron and Metal on Route 68 Lisbon, NY. That was her life! She would be right out there working alongside her husband and son every day. Leora loved camping, racing, crossword puzzles, gardening, feeding anyone who walked through her door, and spending time with her great-great-grandchildren every day the last year of her life.

He was born on September 7, 1963 in Lowville, New York, a son of Ronald F. Merry and the late Judith Flint Merry and graduated from Lowville Academy in 1981. He worked for P & C Foods, Lowville for more than twenty-five years. He then worked as a handy man and enjoyed helping his neighbors. Bowman enjoyed four wheeling and was an avid NASCAR and football fan.

NORWOOD—In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services at this time for 82 year old Clark A. Warner, a resident of 170 Old Market Road, Norwood. Mr. Warner passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at his home. Clark is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara, Norwood; a son, Gregory and Kimberley Warner, Kalamazoo, MI; Betsy Farnsworth, Norfolk; his four beloved grandchildren, Brianna, Cameron, Tyler and Lindsay and his sister, Diane O’Connor, North Syracuse.
Born in Potsdam, NY on December 1, 1934 to the late Walter L. and Hilda H. Clark Warner, Clark graduated from High School and married Barbara A. Cameron on July 24, 1954. He later served in the U.S. Army both active and in the reserves from 1957-1963. Clark worked as a Veterinary Tech at the Bixby Animal Clinic in Norfolk from 1971 until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Norfolk Methodist Church, the Rock Haven Gang in South Colton, the Barber Shop Harmony Society, the Empire State Travel Trailer Club, a member of the Norfolk Museum Board of Directors and the National Ski Patrol. Clark loved the outdoors, as he enjoyed hunting, camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking and skiing, all of which he did until a couple years ago. Rose Elizabeth Cawley Edwards
Rose Elizabeth Cawley Edwards, 95, of Athens, GA, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017.
Born in Knoxville, TN, she was the only daughter of the late William Dennis Cawley and Mildred Robinson Cawley. Mrs. Edwards was a member of St. Stephens Anglican Catholic Church in Athens. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Loren E. Edwards, and younger brother William Cawley. Survivors include her children, Kirk and Christopher Edwards, and youngest brother, Russell Cawley.
Mrs. Edwards resided in Potsdam, NY from the early 1940’s through the late 1970’s, where she was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She was an alumnus of Potsdam State Teachers College, (later S.U.N.Y. Potsdam), and taught kindergarten, and briefly 5th grade, for 30 years at Norwood-Norfolk central school.
Her ashes will be interred in the Edwards family plot at Bayside Cemetery, Potsdam. There will be a graveside service, tentatively planned for next July. Garner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences can be shared @garnerfh.com.
Faye S. Hopper
GOUVERNEUR- Faye S. Hopper, age 88, of Gouverneur passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Faye spent her last day surrounded by her four children and their families.

Faye was born on May 14, 1929. She was the youngest of seven children born to the late Lynn A. and Grace (Mix) Sprague. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1947; attended one year at Crane School of Music; two years at SUNY Canton and then graduated from SUNY Potsdam, where she received both her Bachelors and Masters degree.
Faye married Frederick C. Hopper on June 4, 1950 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church with Rev. Harold Thomas officiating. Frederick passed away on February 13, 2004. Faye worked as a school teacher for the Gouverneur Central School District for 22 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association, the Gouverneur Garden Club, Gouverneur United Methodist Church Unit 2, a charter member of the Knitting Club, the Mexican Domino Group, Friends of the Library, the Gouverneur Museum, SOAR- affiliate of the Elderhostel at SUNY Potsdam and the American Guild of Organist- St. Lawrence Chapter. She was the organist for the Gouverneur United Methodist Church for 62 years. She also taught piano lessons for many years. She enjoyed music, playing both the organ and piano. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, doing counted cross stitch and for many years spending the winter months in Florida.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Joel and Barbara of Carrollton, OH, Alan and Elaine of Sylvia Lake, NY and Jeffrey Hopper and his companion Vaughne Barkley of Heuvelton; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn and Arnold Roberts of Richville; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and her parents, Faye is predeceased by four brothers, Ward, Hugh, Frank and Paul Sprague and two sisters, Helen Gardner and Clara Ferguson.

Glenn E. Zehr, 73, Belleville, passed away Monday November 6th at the University Hospital SUNY Health and Science Center, Syracuse, where he had been a patient since November 1st.

Mr. Marvin (Les) Dorr, 60, was pronounced dead November 7th, after missing from deer hunting.
The funeral service will be at 2pm, Saturday Nov. 11th, at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton, with Reverend Mark Pierce officiating. A calling hour will be held prior to the service.
Les was born August 3rd, 1957, in Watertown, the son of Frederick and Gertrude Reff Dorr. He attended Cape Vincent Schools.
He worked with his brother Rick, on their farm and in their junkyard.
Les enjoyed hunting, he was a jack-of-all-trades, and really enjoyed helping everyone with whatever they needed done.
Surviving is two brothers, Richard (Cheryl) and Ronald, both of Cape Vincent; two sisters, Edith (Tom) Norton of LaFargeville, and Penny (Ricky) Scales of Cape Vincent; one aunt, Clara Reff of Cape Vincent; nieces and nephews.

Anne K. Pound
Anne K. Pound, 74, of Brownville, New York passed away peacefully on November 5, 2017 at Rochester General Hospital surrounded by her family.
Anne was born April 1, 1943 to Chester and Ann Bonnallie of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Fitchburg High School and from the Eastman School of Dental Hygiene, Rochester, New York.
On June 26, 1965, she married Richard L. Pound in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The couple has lived in Brownville, New York for 47 years. She worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. Robert Mesires in Watertown for many years.
Family was of the utmost importance to Anne. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved family vacations in Cape Cod. Anne could be found canning tomatoes, knitting afghans and doing crossword puzzles. Anne was an active member of the Brownville American Legion, where she enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, of 52 years, Richard and her three daughters; Stephanie (Steven) Baiocchi of Rochester, Kristin (Adam) Goldfeder of Rochester and Richelle (Jesse) Malcolm of Brownville. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren; Paige, Brooke, James, Davis, Leo, Charlotte, Libby and Gabe.
Calling hours will be Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter, New York from 3:00-7:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Brownville at 11:00 am with Father Kevin O’Brien officiating. The burial will be scheduled at a later time. Donations may be made to the Allen-Giles Post 588 American Legion in Brownville, New York or the Immaculate Conception Church, of Brownville, New York. Doris Marie Jenning
Doris Marie Jenning, 93, formerly of Orchard Park, NY, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Nov.7, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Ogdensburg with her family by her side.
Doris was born on September 27, 1924 in St. Mary’s, PA, the daughter of Lawrence B. and Ruth Overturf Winslow. She graduated from Dubois High School. She married Alvin G. Jenning on June 8, 1946 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Buffalo, NY. Alvin passed away on October 2, 2001.
During WWII, while attending cosmetology school, Doris worked at the Army Airforce Depot in Buffalo, NY. After the war, she worked in the Orchard Park Elementary School cafeteria, became a homemaker and enjoyed square dancing, quilting, and rug-hooking. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Lou Vrooman, Alexandria Bay and four grandchildren, David and Jason Vrooman and Morgan and Cortney Jenning-Smith. A daughter, Susan Kay Jenning-Smith, predeceased her in 2003.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 10th from 1-3pm at Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday at the Theresa Presbyterian Church in Theresa, NY, with her son-in-law, the Reverend Robert Vrooman officiating.
Contributions may be made in Doris’s name to St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Ogdensburg, the Theresa Presbyterian Church or a Hospice of one’s choice.
