Dorcas I. Summerville

Dorcas I. Summerville, 73, of Sandy Creek, passed away on April 16, 2018 in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Born April 2, 1945 in Bainbridge, Ga. Daughter of the late James and Mabel Parks Hunt.

She was a resident of the area for the past 60 years. She graduated from Pulaski High School. Married on Dec 14, 1963 to Charles Summerville Jr. Retired from Sandy Creek Central School District and assisted her husband in the daily operation of Summerville Funeral Home in Sandy Creek. She was a member of Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, past president of Cable Trail VFW Aux #8534 Lacona, NY, Sandy Creek Grange #127, member and past matron of Lake Ontario Chapter #124 OES and served as associate Grand Marshal {1983} and former member of N.O.C.A. ambulance.

Survived By: Husband Charles of 54 years, Three children Shelley (David) Salisbury of Florida, Charles (Helen) Summerville of Kodiak Island Alaska, and Lani Summerville of Tolland, Ct, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A sister Elaine Tolson of Kentucky and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Predeceased by a brother Curtis Bryant.

Services: Calling Hours on Thursday April 26 from 2-4 and from 7-9 at Summerville Funeral Home in Sandy Creek NY. Funeral on Friday April 27 at 1pm at Sandy Creek United Methodist Church. Burial in South Richland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital as Dorcas was always about helping children and families in need.


Clinton L. Matson

The funeral for Clinton L. Matson, 65, a resident of the Samaritan Keep Home since 2017, will be Monday at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of TLC Funeral Home, Inc. Internment will be at Camp Ripley Cemetery in Little Falls, Minnesota. Mr. Matson died April 16, 2018.

He was born December 7, 1952, in Morris, Minnesota the son of Lowell and Clara Cromer Matson. He graduated from Owatonna High School and later received his bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota St. Cloud.

Mr. Matson served in the US Army from September 16, 1982 until he was honorably discharged on August 31, 1984.

A previous marriage to Julie Matson and Theresa Matson ended in divorce.

Mr. Matson worked at Champion International Paper Co. in Minnesota for several years.

He is survived by his mother Clara Matson of Watertown, his sister in law Cheryl Matson of Watertown, 1 niece and 1 nephew Stacey Foshee of Columbia, SC and Jeremiah Matson of Vernon, CT, and his great nieces and great nephews Chase and Christian Foshee of Columbia, SC and Kaley and Kensie Matson of Vernon, CT.

A brother Jason Matson died in December 2011. Arrangements are with TLC Funeral Home, Inc.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.

Beatrice B. Maltby

Beatrice B. Maltby, 89, formerly of Adams Center, died Thursday April 20, at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility where she had lived since 2015. There are no public services. Private burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Adams Center.

Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams.

Born September 16, 1928 in Watertown, daughter of Lawrence R. and Mildred I. (Parker) Maltby, she attended Adams Center High School. Following school she went to work as a ward clerk at the House of the Good Samaritan in 1950. Following her retirement in 1971, she worked as a care giver mostly in the Adams Center area.

She is survived by a brother Laverne Maltby, Watertown; one sister Alfreda Hull, Carthage, and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by two sisters, Belva Roberts and Sylvia Maltby.

Bea was a member and trustee of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Adams Center and the Ladies Aide Society.

Mary Louise Koulman (ne farr)

Mary Louise Koulman (ne Farr), a longtime resident of Bradenton, Florida, died on February 2, 2018 at the age of 90. Born on December 9, 1927, Mary Lou grew up and attended high school in Canastota, NY. She graduated from the Crane School of Music in 1949 and moved to Aruba, Netherlands Antilles in 1952, where she started the instrumental music program at Lagos High School.

There she met her soon to be husband, Johannes Koulman, who had immigrated to Aruba from Holland in 1948. The two were married in 1954, and they moved to Potsdam, NY in 1965.

Mary Lou moved to Florida in 1986 after the death of Johannes in 1985. There she continued to play music, tennis, and bridge with longtime friends from Potsdam and the Crane School of Music and was a longtime member of the Sarasota Mobile Home Park Concert Band (now called the Suncoast Concert Band) and did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels and Blake Hospital. Mary Lou also performed with The Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus & Orchestra (AMICCO).

Mary Lou is survived by her three children, Susan Koulman of Potsdam, NY, Willem (“Casey”) Koulman of Palo Alto, CA, and Bryan Koulman of Brooklyn, NY; and by her three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. John Sparks Goodison

Joan Sparks Goodison, 90, of Oak Island passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Wilmington.

Mrs. Goodison was born in State College, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Norman Sparks and Ruth Barbur Sparks. She graduated from Ithaca High School in 1945, attended Cornell University, and graduated from Highland Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, New York in 1949 as an RN. Mrs. Goodison worked at Claxton-Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg from 1962 – 1987, mainly as an ER Nurse. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, swimming, and tennis. In her later years she also enjoyed knitting and reading. She loved to travel, taking trips to Hawaii, Cancun, Mexico, and special trips to California and Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband William Swanson in 1983 and her second husband Herbert Goodison in 2014.

Survivors include her two daughters, Gail Swanson Moore and husband James of Oak Island, North Carolina and Karen Swanson Beiter and husband Harold of Hudson, Florida; grandchildren, Mark and Devon Moore of Oak Island, North Carolina, Andrew and Amy Beiter of Amhurst, New York, Jennifer Heller and husband Tim of Clearwater, Florida, and David and Amanda Beiter of Port Richey, Florida; 7 great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Susan Goodison and step granddaughter Erin Collins of California.

Private family services will be held at a later date with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Canton, New York.

Robert J. Brotherton

CARTHAGE – Robert J. Brotherton Sr., 83, of County Route 37, died on Thursday evening, April 19, 2018 surrounded by his family at the Hospice Residence of Jefferson County.

Robert was born on December 25, 1934 in Black River, New York, son of the late Arthur J. and Mildridge E. (Sheltray) Brotherton. He graduated from West Carthage High School in 1954. Upon graduation he joined the Army National Guard. On November 17, 1956 he married Elsie Hodkinson at the Woolworth Memorial Methodist Church in Great Bend, with Rev. Goddard officiating. Throughout his time in the National Guard he was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Aberdeen Pro Ground, Maryland, serving until 1958. He then went on to work at the St. Regis Paper Company, which was later renamed as the Champion Paper Company. He retired as supervisor in 1993. In 1995, he began working at Carlowden Country Club in Carthage, New York. He worked there until 2015.

He was an avid hunter. He was a life member of the Great Bend Fire Department since 1956, as well as a life member of the Elks Club for 47 years. He was also a member of the Bassett-Baxter American Legion Post #789, Carthage, and a member of the Rod & Gun St. Regis Club from 1956 until 2018.

He is survived by four children, Robert (Tammy) Brotherton Jr. of Barnes Corners, NY; Sherri (Kevin) Robinson of Blythwood, SC; Frederick (Kelly) Brotherton of Great Bend, NY; James (Randi) Brotherton of Carthage, NY; as well as several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 4-7 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM with The Reverend Canon Samuel P. Lundy officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Great Bend.

Marilyn G. Brady

Marilyn G. Brady, 82, of 24167 Staie Road, Carthage died Thursday afternoon, April 19, 2018 at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.

Marilyn was born on August 1, 1935 in Kincardine, Ontario, Canada, daughter of the late Thomas and Frances (Ferguson) Boyle. She moved to the United States in 1945 with her parents. She graduated from Theresa High School in 1953 and the Watertown School of Commerce in 1954. She married Patrick T. Brady on July 3, 1965 at St. James Church in Carthage. Marilyn worked at the former Taggaret Paper Mill in Watertown, Beneficial Finance Co. in Carthage and the United Community Church for 26 years.

In July of 2015, Patrick and Marilyn celebrated fifty wonderful years together. Marilyn was a beautiful and caring person who doted on her family. She especially loved knitting hats and mittens for her children and grandchildren, as well as hats and blankets for the newborns at Carthage Area Hospital. She was revered in her family for cooking and baking, especially her Christmas “rock” cookies and fruitcake. She was a godsend to her daughter-in-law Michelle by assisting, whenever needed, in the nurturing of three active boys. Michelle considered Marilyn her true mother.

She was a member of the United Community Church, Life member of VFW Dionne-Rumble Post # 7227 Auxiliary, Bassett-Baxter Post Auxiliary # 789 of Carthage, Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered at the Gift Shop and she was a former member of the Theresa OES (Past Matron).

She is survived by her husband: Patrick T. Brady of Carthage; one son and daughter-in-law: James and Michelle Brady of Carthage, one daughter and son-in-law: Jean Marie and Brian Edwards of Colorado Springs, CO. She also has four grandsons; Patrick K. Brady, Kelsey J. Brady, Shayne T. Brady and Paul F. Edwards, a granddaughter, Claire M. Edwards and her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Joyce Brady of West Carthage. She is predeceased by her parents and her infant son, Michael Brady.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 24 at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home with Rev. Jane E. Wagner, Pastor of the United Community Church officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Carthage. Calling hours will be Monday, April 23 from 4-7pm at the funeral home.

John W. Belknap

John W. Belknap, age 76 of Syracuse and formerly of Hammond died Wednesday (April 18, 2018) at the Loretto Health & Rehab Center in Syracuse. A celebration of life service will be held at a time to be announced.

Surviving is his son Jonathan Belknap & his wife Patti of Hammond; and three grandchildren Hannah, Grace & Gregory Belknap.

John was born on January 19, 1942 in Toledo OH, a son of the late Cam & Betty (Murrow) Belknap. He graduated from Lake Wales High School in FL and then continued his education at the Mercersburg Military Academy in PA. He then entered the US Army during the Vietnam War and received his honorable discharge.

John worked many years as a machinist at the Donald Duck Orange Company in Florida. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending time on the river, visiting with friends, boating, being around his family and savoring his favorite sweets.

George E. Vincent II

MASSENA – George E. Vincent II, “Mighty Black Wolf” of the Huron Tribe, died on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Gouverneur Hospital. George was born in Lake Placid, New York on December 7, 1952, a son of the late George Edmond and Jeanine (LaGoy) Vincent. He graduated from high school and went on to receive an Associate’s Degree from North Country Community College in Saranac Lake. He was employed as a Mental Health Advocate at various places in Northern New York. He married Ursula Anne (Williams) on February 18, 1978. Ursula died on December 20, 1996. He spent many years with a companion, Bonnie Newell.

He enjoyed comic books and looked forward to his monthly comic book in the mail. He was a Chicago Cubs Fan.

He is survived by two children, Arion and his wife Roseanna Vincent of Copenhagen, NY; Shane Williams of Saranac Lake, NY; three step-children, Megan Whipple of Plattsburgh, NY; Shawn Whipple of Arizona; Walt Whipple of Albany, NY; two sisters, Amelia Vincent and her family of Lake Placid, NY; Jeanine Vincent and family of Plattsburgh, NY; as well as eight grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife, Ursula, as well as an infant daughter, Athena Vincent.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 4-6 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., located at 500 State Street in Carthage, NY 13619. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of the Funeral Home.

GATES, NY - Linda A. Crandall, 69, passed away on April 16, 2018. Born in Watertown, NY on July 4, 1948, she was the daughter of Harold and Virginia Robinson. On April 14, 1973 she married the love of her life, Peter J. Crandall.

Linda attended Jefferson Community College and SUNY Oswego for education. After pursuing a career as a Math Teacher, she and Peter moved to Rochester in 1975. She went on to work at the University of Rochester for 42 years as the supervisor for the department of neuropathology.

When she wasn’t working you could find her enjoying time with her family. They loved to go sailing, spend time at their cottage, baking, crafting, spoiling her granddaughters or simply taking care of others. Linda was always selfless, assuring that everyone else was well taken care of before thinking of herself.

Along with her husband, Peter. She is survived by her two sons, Sean (Tara Allen) Crandall, Erik (Courtney) Crandall; three grandaughters Lorelai, Madeleine, Alyssa; siblings Donna (Gary) Jareo, Kevin (Kathy) Robinson, Mark Robinson, and Debbie (Todd) Lavere; several nieces and nephews.

Helen R. Chisholm, 84, formerly of Theresa, NY, died Friday, April 13, 2018, at Legacy Hospice House, Ocala, Florida.

Born November 27, 1933 in Watertown, NY, she was the daughter of William and Mary McDermott McNickle. She graduated from Theresa High School. She was a member of Oxbow Presbyterian Church for many years.

She married Gerald Chisholm on August 18, 1951 at Presbyterian Church, Parsonage, Gouverneur, NY. Together Gerald and Helen owned and operated their family’s dairy farm in Oxbow, NY, for many years. Upon Gerald’s death on March 8, 1996, Mrs. Chisholm retired and moved in with her daughter and son-in-law.

In 1999, they relocated to Concord, VA and later moved to Ocala, FL, in 2010.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law. David and Barbara Dimon, Ocala, FL; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald and son, Donald.

Burial will be at Oxbow New Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Constance Connell McNeilly

Constance Connell McNeilly died peacefully on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at age 97. Born in Baldwinsville, NY on February 20, 1921, Constance was the daughter of James Carl and Louise Bigelow Connell and the youngest of their four children.

On December 27, 1955, she married Robert H. McNeilly, who predeceased her in April 1993.

Constance graduated from Baldwinsville Academy and received undergraduate and masters degrees from Syracuse University. Especially fond of working with junior high school students, she went on to teach in Elbridge, NY, served as a Guidance Counselor and Vice Principal at Oneonta Junior High School and was the Dean of the Mamaroneck Junior High School in NY. Once moving to Lowville in 1960, she was a frequent substitute teacher at Lowville Academy in everything from shop class to high school English.

Her community service included decades as chair of recruitment for the American Red Cross blood banks, teaching Sunday school and serving on committees at the Lowville Presbyterian Church, leadership positions with the Lowville Civic Club, Northern Federation of Women’s Clubs, Girl Scouts. Lewis Co. ARC, and the Constable Hall Association.

Constance loved music, canoeing, traveling and gardens. She was a gifted knitter and seamstress. She will be remembered for treasuring her friends and family, and for her great sense of humor which persisted to the end.

Surviving her are her children Louise McNeilly (Kathleen McDonough) of Albany, NY and Scott McNeilly (Sharon Goodman) of Washington DC.

Donations in her memory may be made to Constable Hall or to the Lowville Academy and Central School-Robert McNeilly Scholarship Fund.

Funeral services for Thomas P. Luckie Sr., age 82 of 2019 Ford Street in Ogdensburg, will be held at 10:00am on Thursday (April 26, 2018) at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Jay Seymour and Rev. James Shurtleff co-officiating. He will be laid to rest at Foxwood Memorial Park.

Surviving is his wife Pamela of Ogdensburg; four sons Thomas (Donna) Luckie Jr. of Ogdensburg, Jamie (Candy) Luckie of Charlotte NC, Eugene (Kristen) Luckie of Fort Mill, SC, Michael Luckie & his fiancee’ Jennifer Barron of Union City, NJ; Daughters Colleen Luckie of Ramstein Village, Germany, Elizabeth “Bippy” Luckie & her partner Emily Bietsch of West Haven, CT, and Monica (Steve) LaRose of Ogdensburg; two step sons Patrick (Jill) Farrand of Lisbon and Matthew Farrand of Ogdensburg; a brother John Luckie of Piermont, NY; a sister Teresa Flanagan of New Jersey; 17 grandchildren, Thomas III, Owen & Riley Luckie, Sean, Kyle & Morgan Luckie, Catherine, Eugene, Mary & Colleen Luckie, Averie, Maximus & Coen Farrand, Cavan, Breton, Kinnon & Brogan LaRose; a great-grandson Donovan Summers along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.

A granddaughter Mary Catherine LaRose; two brothers Joseph & Eugene Luckie; a sister-in-law Jean Luckie; and a brother-in law Martin Flanagan predeceased him as well as cousins Catherine and Eleanor Lewis and Pam’s parents Dalton (Vi) Miller.

Tom was born on March 22, 1936, a son of the late Joseph & Mary (McArdle) Luckie. He attended school at Rice High School in the Bronx and Springfield, NJ where he excelled in basketball earning all-state honors for New Jersey. He then continued his education and basketball career at Panzer Athletic College (which became Montclair State) with a major in Physical Education. He later married Catherine Ruth McGillivray she predeceased him on Nov 5, 1986. He then married Pamela Miller on August 12, 1988 at the Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg.

After college Tom worked at Eastern Air Lines and later was hired in the early 60’s by longtime NBA basketball official Norm Drucker to serve as program director of the Navy Yard Boys Club in Brooklyn, NY. Tom built many great relationships with the members there before moving to Ogdensburg in 1965 to become Program/Assistant Director of the Ogdensburg Boys Club and Director of the Belmont Courts Boys Club. In 1968 he was named Executive Director of the club and was an instrumental part of a fund drive in 1973-1974 which resulted in the current club being built on Patterson St. and becoming the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club where he served in that position until retiring in 2005. In his time at the club he, along with Ruth and Pam influenced and impacted countless youth. In 1997 Tom was recognized by Boys and Girls Club of America with the Bronze Medallion Award for his outstanding service. He also coached the Boys and Girls Club basketball team from 1984-1997 in the Franklin County CYO League as well as a Boys Club team when minor hockey began.

His community service included United Way Volunteer, St. Lawrence County Legislator, Ogdensburg City Council, Ogdensburg Lions Club Member, Moose Lodge Member, Seaway Festival Volunteer, Ogdensburg School Board, St. Lawrence County Youth Advisory Board, Ogdensburg Housing Authority Board, helped to establish Pop Warner Football and Minor Hockey, Biddy Basketball Coach, Bishop Conroy Physical Education Teacher and for a number of years was the Head Basketball Coach at Wadhams Hall Seminary College.

Tom was an outstanding basketball player in the Ogdensburg Basketball Association for many years, he enjoyed watching the Yankees, Rangers, Giants, Notre Dame Football, his sons officiating basketball, his grandchildren’s athletic events and all types of horse racing, especially at Saratoga, Belmont, Yonkers and Tartan Downs in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Tom loved golf and was a long-time member of the Prescott Golf Club and had recorded two holes in one including one on #10 at the St. Lawrence State Park. He enjoyed the company of many great friends on the course including Tom Hannan Sr., Rick Badlam, the late Dave LaRose and many other absent friends. He was life long friends with Chuck Kelly and Ron Romano. He was proud of his catholic faith and Irish heritage as both parents immigrated to New York City from the Emerald Isle and visited with all three of his daughters in 2006.

Waddington: Calvin O. Rabsatt, age 69, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family and Hospice on Thursday evening April 19, 2018.

The family would like to thank Waddington Rescue Squad, Duke University, Upstate Medical Oncology Center, Richard Winter Cancer Center, Health Services of Northern NY along with Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley for their unwavering support and healthcare of our father and husband.
