Richard J. “Rick” St. Germain

Private funeral services for Richard J. “Rick” St. Germain, age 56 of Ogdensburg, will be held at Foxwood Memorial Park. Rick passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday (April 25th) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center after being stricken at home.

Surviving is his wife Lisa; a daughter Elissa St. Germain & her Fiancée Shane Moyer of Evans Mills; brothers Jack (Pat) St. Germain of Knoxville IA, Dennis St. Germain of Ogdensburg and Dale (Sharon) St. Germain of Gaston, SC.

His two brothers Kevin & Robert St. Germain predeceased him.

Rick was born on March 3, 1962 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of the late Arnold C. & Elizabeth (Foxx) St. Germain. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and continued his education at SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton. On June 10, 1989 he married Lisa Johnson. Rick was employed at Riverview Correctional Facility in Ogdensburg as a corrections officer and weapons training officer until his retirement in 2015. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, watching SU Basketball and the NY Yankees, finding treasures at yard sales and collecting antiques.

Along with her parents, Lily is survived by her brother, Sylas F. Bach; paternal grandparents, Fred and Patty Bach, Clayton; maternal grandmother, Virginia Seymour, Rochester; three aunts and uncles, Kassi Seymour, Jennifer Bach and companion, David Alteri, and Jessica and Graeme Spicer; three cousins, Dawson and Taylor Alteri and Audriana Spicer; and a large extended family as well.

Shirley A. Wagner

Shirley A Wagner, 92, a longtime resident of Clayton, died Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Kingsway Community, Schenectady, where she had resided since December 2011.

She was born in Watertown on July 19, 1925, daughter of Netta Campbell Cramer and Henry N. Cramer. Shirley grew up on a farm near South Rutland. She graduated from Adams Center Central School and the Watertown branch of the Rochester Business Institute. During the war she worked as a secretary for the Rochester Ordinance District at Bagley & Sewell. While her children were growing up, Shirley sought higher education in order to become a teacher. In 1966 she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from Syracuse University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She was a member of the National Business Administration Honorary, Beta Gamma Sigma. She later received her Master’s Degree in Education, Guidance and Counseling from St. Lawrence University. She taught at Jefferson Vocational-Technical Center in Watertown until her retirement.

On September 6, 1945 she married Francis A. Wagner at Holy Family Church, Watertown. They were married for 66 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband Fran, who supported her in all her endeavors and her sisters Margery Smith and Jacqueline Cramer.

Shirley was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clayton where she was a Worship Committee Chairman and Choir Member.

Shirley’s interests were varied. While in Clayton she was a counselor in Health Insurance Information for the Office for the Aging; Secretary, Jefferson County Genealogical Society; Committeeman, Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund and Young People’s Theatre of Clayton; and volunteer for Hospice of Jefferson County. She was also active in local Democratic politics.

She was a member of the Jefferson Lewis Council of NYSUT Retirees, College Women’s Club of Jefferson County, Adirondack Mountain Club, Black River Chapter, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Master Gardener Program, American Canoe Association, The River Choir and Little Theatre of Watertown.

Shirley dearly loved the river and all outdoor activities. Her passions included hiking, cross country skiing, biking (particularly taking the ferry to Canada with her sister Margery to bike there) and snow shoeing. She was an enthusiastic member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, Black River Chapter, always ready to go hiking, canoeing or cross country skiing with the group. Whenever possible she would be on the water, in her motor boat, canoe, or kayak. She and her friends would cross the river to swim off the boat at Potter’s beach.

Her entire life she loved to garden growing vegetables for the family as well as beautiful flowers.

Singing was an important part of her life. She sang in her church choir and for many years in the Northern Choral Society Christmas Concert. She travelled to England with the Choral Society to perform in cathedrals there. She also sang in the River Choir which serenaded various community groups. While living in Schenectady she was a member of the Joytones, a singing group sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association. With her daughter Jane she sang many times for seniors in assisted living and memory care centers.

Shirley is survived by her four children, John H. and wife Gail, Hamlin, Jane A. Wagner and husband Richard A. Lasky, Latham, David F. and wife, Beth, Orlando, Fla, and Steven R. and wife Deb, Clayton, NC; six grandchildren; one great grandson; brother-in-law A. Milain Smith, Watertown; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Norma and Denis Savage, Brockville, Ont..

The family extends their deep thanks and appreciation for the care that she received at Kingsway Community. Throughout her journey from assisted living to memory care and finally to the Kingsway Arms Nursing facility, Kingsway staff always treated Shirley with respect, kindness and compassion. Special thanks are directed to A Wing staff where Shirley resided for the past three and one-half years.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Shirley’s family at the Cummings Funeral Home, Clayton on Saturday, June 16, at 9:30. A funeral service will follow at noon at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Earl Lalone officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Wayne Anthony Monnat

Wayne Anthony Monnat of Rochester, NY, 62, passed away on Thursday April 26, 2018 in Kingston, NY. A native of Lowville, NY, Wayne began his career with General Railway Signal in Rochester, NY, eventually leading him to contract work in high speed magnetic levitation rail across the U.S. and Asia. A loyal Yankees fan, Wayne also enjoyed riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

Wayne is survived by his three children; Jeremy Monnat of Rochester, NY; Jessica Suatoni and her husband David of Rochester, NY; Derek Monnat of Singapore; and grandchildren, Katalina and Isabella Monnat and Charlie Suatoni. Wayne was pre-deceased by his father, Niles Monnat; mother, Audrey (Burn) Monnat; and sister, Paula Makuch.

Mrs. Lillian Rose (Phillips) Barrigar

Mrs. Lillian Rose (Phillips) Barrigar, 91, of Pierrepont, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 while in the comfort of her home, where she was surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of the St. Lawrence Valley.

Lillian was born August 6, 1926 in Pierrepont, the daughter of the late Almon and Celia (Irish) Phillips. She graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central in 1943. On August 10, 1944, Lillian was married to Lloyd Barrigar at the home of her parents in Pierrepont, where the couple resided their entire married life. Lillian was a homemaker, helping to raise their children while living on the family farm.

Lillian was a member of the Boondockers Snow-Mobile Club, former member of the Eastern Stars, and a member of the Cooks Corner’s Community Club. She loved to spend time at their camp on Cranberry Lake, animals, outdoor activities, dancing, playing cards, visiting and telling stories of the olden days.

Lillian is survived by her husband of nearly 74 years, Lloyd of Pierrepont, two sons, Lloyd (Kris) Barrigar and Larry (Elaine) Barrigar, all of Pierrepont; two daughters, Betty O’Shea of Russell and Linda Pusateri of Norfolk; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Lillian is predeceased by a son, Keith; two son-in-laws, Bruce O’Shea and Mario Pusateri; and sisters, Elva Billings, Rena Davis and Jessie Yetman.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton and again from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm on Monday, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Beech Plains Cemetery.

CARTHAGE – Norman R. Hosmer, 69, of Sherman Street, passed away early Friday morning, April 27, 2018 at the Hospice Residence of Jefferson County, surrounded by his loving family.

Norman was born in Carthage, New York on May 13, 1948, a son of the late Wheeler and Minnie (Donoghue) Hosmer. He graduated from Carthage Central School. He served in the United States Airforce as a Missile Maintenance Technician for 19 years and as a Carpentry Specialist for one year, providing nearly 20 years of dedicated service total. On April 15, 2008 he married Debra Gibson.

He is survived by his wife Debra; his children, Todd Hosmer, Bobbie Jo Hosmer, Rebecca Handle, all of Carthage; Robert Hosmer, Virginia; and Jerry Hosmer, Watertown; seven brothers, Lloyd Hosmer; Terry Hosmer; Marshall Hosmer; Allen Hosmer; Leo Hosmer; Keith Hosmer; Jerry Hosmer; and six sisters, Carolyn Johnson; Susan VanArnam; Tina Hosmer; Patricia Peets; Clara Hosmer; and Peggy Hosmer. He is also survived by several grandchildren, one of which lives with them, Bridgette Handle; as well as several nieces and nephews. Norman is predeceased by his parents Wheeler and Minnie Hosmer; a brother, Bruce Hosmer; a sister, Nancy Hosmer; and a daughter Joanne Hosmer.

LOWVILLE – Marie E. Stickley Duthie, 91, passed away late Saturday evening, April 28, 2018 at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Leon Runner, Pastor of Lowville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be held privately by the family. A calling hour will be held from Noon – 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.

She is survived by her children, Lawrence (Susan) Duthie of Lowville; James “Jim” Duthie of Hillsboro, NH; Paul (Marylou) Duthie of Pembroke, MA; John (Christine) Duthie of Grove City, OH; a brother-in-law, Ernie Marlowe of Milford, MI; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephew and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband William Duthie who died in August, 1993; and two daughters, Nancy, who died in November, 1975, and Susan, who died in October 2013, two brothers, Robert and Richard Stickley, and a sister, Doris Marlowe.

Mrs. Duthie was born on October 13, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of the late Ernest and Pauline Thompson Stickley. She was raised in Detroit, where on August 10, 1946, she married William Duthie. The couple moved to Boston in 1953 where she lived with her family until 1975, when they moved to Toronto Canada, living there until her husband’s death in 1993. She then moved to Alabama to live with her daughter, Susan. In addition to raising a family, she worked a number of jobs, from telephone operator, waitress and factory worker, then in her 50’s, she graduated from Quincy Jr. College, becoming an LPN, and worked in several hospitals and nursing homes for a number of years.

She was an active church member, taught Sunday school for many years, and sang in the church choirs. She was a life member of Ruggles Baptist Church in Boston, and a member of Poarch Baptist Church in Alabama where she lived with her daughter until her daughter’s death. For the past several years she has been a resident of the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.

HAMMOND, NY. — Robert G. Decker, 95, lifetime resident of Hammond, passed away Saturday evening at the Samaritan Keep Home, in Watertown.

He was born March 14, 1923 in Hammond, son of Loren R. and Ellen Chase Decker. He was educated in Hammond Schools. Bob married Mary Aline Constance Amyot, on May 16, 1945 at St. Patrick’s Church, in Rossie. Bob owned and operated his own farm on County Route 1, until 1970 and also worked as a bus driver for Hammond Central School. He then served as highway superintendent for the town of Hammond for 20 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of the K of C, and played in the band “Blue Notes” for many years.

Besides his wife Aline, he is survived by five sons, George (Susan), West Gardner, ME, Fr. Douglas Decker, Tupper Lake, NY, Fr. Robert Decker, Black River, NY, Lyndon (Judy), Tully, NY, and Steven (Angela), Adams, NY, a daughter, Sally and her husband Frederick Paddock, Hammond, NY, 5 grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Lorene Hall and Margaret Shannon.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 1st from 4-7 pm at the Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. The funeral mass will be Wednesday, May, 2nd at 10 am at St. Peter’s Church, Hammond with Fr. Douglas Decker and Fr. Robert Decker, officiating. Burial will be at Fineview Cemetery, Hammond.

SYRACUSE, NY/LOWVILLE, NY ~ Janice M Stahlin, 88, of North Syracuse, died peacefully April 19, 2018 at her home.

Born in Lowville, NY, a twin daughter of A. Arthur and Esther Zehr Schantz, she was graduated from Lowville Academy and later from Rider College in Trenton, NJ.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, James P. and Pamela Stahlin, of Orlando, FL, Barry A. Stahlin, of N. Syracuse, NY; a son-in-law, Kenneth Kelly, of Denver, CO; 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a brother, Warren A. Schantz, of Lowville, NY.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Lynn M. Kelly, who died on April 10, 2012, her twin sister, Janet R. Schantz, who died on August 23,1987, and her brother, Clair R. Schantz, who died on December 29, 2000.

Funeral Services will be private for family and close friends and will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan. The immediate family will receive other family members and close friends at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the 1:00 p.m. service.

Janice will be laid to rest in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Croghan, NY, following her service.

Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Tuesday May 1, 2018 from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 5 p.m. Mrs. Woodward passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Highland Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

Helen is survived by her beloved children, William (Diane) Woodward, Norfolk; Gary (Peggy) Woodward, Norwood; a daughter, Irene (Leon) Ober, Norwood; her eight beloved grandchildren, William, Jennifer, Jason, Gary, Justin, Bobby Jo, Scott and Tina and eleven great-grandchildren. Helen is also survived by her beloved siblings Michael (MaryJo) Kristyak, Mercer, PA; Tom Kristyak, PA, Jo Anne Sasse, PA; Edith (David) Dunwoody, PA, and Barbara Laffler, FL as well as several nieces and nephews. Helen was pre-deceased by her brothers Martin, John, David and her sisters Marjorie, Mary Jane.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio on October 2, 1930 to the late Martin and Helen Panning Kristyak, Helen worked as an Independent Traveling Nurse’s Aide in Florida for many years. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church and enjoyed working on crafts and attending craft shows. Helen was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and loved attending auctions. Helen also like to dance with her family and friends. Lois Marian (Worden) Shoen

Waddington: Lois Marian (Worden) Shoen, 86, of Fenton Street, Waddington, N.Y. passed away peacefully with family by her side at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Ogdensburg on Saturday, April 21, 2018.

Lois was born on August 21, 1931, the first of twelve children to Elmer and Dorothy (Pray) Worden in Lisbon, New York. She graduated from Morristown Central School in June 1949. On May 14, 1950 Lois married William (Bill) L. Shoen at the First Baptist Church in Ogdensburg, N.Y. Bill passed away on March 28, 2015, just weeks prior to reaching their 65th wedding anniversary. While managing to raise a family of five, Lois also worked in various healthcare settings as a LPN and a Public Health Nurse, retiring in 1986. She enjoyed travelling with her husband, especially to warmer places during the winter months, but her favorite activity was camping with her family at Lake Eaton in the Adirondacks, which she did every summer for over forty-five years. She also was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Waddington.

Lois leaves behind her five children, William D. Shoen and wife Janice of Ogdensburg, New York, Carola L. Savage and husband George of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Lynn D. Shoen of Charlottesville, Virginia, Scott L. Shoen and wife Cathy of Waddington, New York, and Nancy French and husband Karlton of CharlesTown, West Virginia. Lois also leaves ten grandchildren, Kelli (and Tim) Walsh, Manheim, Pennsylvania, Kristi (and Tom) Reisinger, Baldwinsville, New York, Lindy Suster, Harrisonburg, Virginia, Kelsey (and Jason) Shoen, Heuvelton, New York, Abbey (and Jeremiah) Hardin, Atlanta, Georgia, Quinn Shoen of Canton, New York, Brandon (and Brittany French), Gerradstown, West Virginia, and Kyle, Keegan, and Ryan French of CharlesTown, West Virginia and four great grandchildren. She leaves three sisters, Jewel Backus, Wanda Cloutier, and Polly Loffler as well as one brother, Worth Worden, having been predeceased by five brothers, Esbon, Elmer, Harland, Wayne, and Roger Worden and two sisters, Joy Showen and Alta Niski.

The family wishes to thank the staff at United Helpers Adult Residence, Rehabilitation and Nursing Home along with the staff at S. Joseph’s Nursing Home for the wonderful care provided. A Memorial Service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Waddington on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM followed by a burial service for immediate family only at the White Church Cemetery in Lisbon New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Helpers of Ogdensburg, St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Ogdensburg, or the Waddington Concert Series.

MANCHESTER - Harrisville- Duane W. Manchester, 70, of 14170 Church Street, died on Wednesday Evening, April 4, 2018 at Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse, New York. He was born on March 25, 1948 in West Carthage, a son of the late Loren F. and Fern A. (Thomas) Manchester. He graduated from Harrisville Central School and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Bethany Wesleyan College, Allentown, PA. A Memorial Service will be held on May 19, 2018 at 11:00am at the Harrisville Christian Church, Located on Route 3 in Harrisville. Gouverneur - Garnet A. Hills, 86, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 5th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Gouverneur American Legion. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

Garnet was born in DeKalb on June 5, 1931, the son of Albert and Vivian Lucus Hills.

He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and worked at Groveton Paper Mill for nearly 20 years before working for the Town of Gouverneur, retiring as town superintendent in 1992.

Garnet married Mary K. Casey on June 10, 1961 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church with Rev. Stanley E. Brown officiating.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping, especially at Westcott Beach, but most of all, enjoyed spending time with family.

Garnet is survived by his wife of 56 years Mary, his 2 daughters Janet E. and Carl Rivers Jr. of Calcium, Sharon A. Liscum of Gouverneur, his son Brian Hills of Gouverneur, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandsons, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, a brother William Hills, a sister Marjorie Morse, and a son-in-law Kurt Liscum.
