John W. Buckland

pThere will be no services or calling hours for John W. Buckland per his final wishes. Mr. Buckland died at the Samaritan Medical Center on April 18, 2016. He was 78./ppHe was born on July 4, 1397 in Anstead, WV the son of Herbert Lewis and Hetty Skaggs Buckland, Sr. He left high school in Marlington, WV to enter the military and was in the first class of graduates in the Air Force to receive his GED./ppHe enlisted in the US Navy in March 1955 and was honorably discharged in July 1958. He then entered the US Air Force in July 1958 where he worked on hydraulic missiles. He was honorably discharged in September 1966./ppAfter leaving the military, Mr. Buckland worked for Union Oil Co. as a crane and drill operator. He also worked for Faulkwire Construction as an equipment operator. Later he worked for several years for the New York Air Brake as a foundry worker until the foundry closed. He then worked as an ammunition security guard for Fort Drum until 2005 when he retired./ppSurviving is his wife Donna Buckland of Watertown, his children Mrs. James (Yvonne “Bonnie”) Wharmby of Rochester, NY, Teresa Cowort of Liverpool, NY, Carl E. Buckland of Watertown, John and Tasha Buckland of Denver Colorado, and John W. Buckland of Salem, Massachusetts, his three sisters Patricia “Pat” Fox of Ritman, Ohio, Mrs. Richard (Louise) Whitting of Texas and Gloria Jean Newhouse of California. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A son Shirley Louis Buckland, and a brother Herbert L. Buckland, Jr. died before him. /ppThe family would like to thank the staff of Samaritan Medical Center and also the nurses in the ICU and on the 5th floor for their compassionate and personal touch when caring for our father, husband and grandfather. Carman, 67, of Van Buren Street died Friday, April 15, 2015 at Emerald Coast Hospice, Fort Walton Beach, Florida./ppBorn April 17, 1948 in Watertown, NY, he was the son of the late John W. and the late Gladys Wadsworth Carman./ppHe graduated from Indian River High School in 1966./ppMr. Carman served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970 overseas in Vietnam and was honorably discharged./ppFollowing his discharge he was an auto worker at Ford Motor Company in Louisville, KY for thirty years, moving to Antwerp in 2001./ppHe was a member of the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) and enjoyed his Ford Mustangs, his Harley motorcycle, football, FOX News and target shooting./ppSurvivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Charles Smart, Antwerp; a niece and her husband, Christine and Paul Everett, Antwerp; two nephews, Andrew Smart and his wife, Dani, Felton,DE and Bill Smart, Watertown; a great nephew, Michael Everett; and two great nieces, Meghan and Macy Everett./ppThe will be no services./ppArrangements are with Frederick Bros. Calling hours will be at the church Friday, April 22nd from 2:00-4:00pm & 6:00-8:00pm./ppCharmaine passed away at her home Tuesday, April 19th surrounded by her children and some of her grandchildren. She had been in the hospital and came home with Hospice the previous day./ppBorn August 11, 1924 in Harrisburg, NY, Charmaine was a daughter of Bertie L. and Lila Mae (Neidle) Chambers. She was educated by Mrs. Ingallhart in Copenhagen’s one room schoolhouse, and graduated high school in 1941 from Lowville Academy./ppCharmaine worked primarily as a homemaker, although she was employed as a seamstress at Olga Knitting Mill & Model Homes in Watertown, also. She also had other “odd” jobs which include being the lunchroom monitor at Ohio Street School, and caring for a blind person./ppCharmaine was a member of Emmanuel Congregational Church in Watertown for 58 years where she sang in the choir for many years, and taught Sunday school for 37 years. She was also very active in the women’s church groups. /ppShe donated her spare time as a literacy volunteer teaching reading and English as a second language, and was involved with various community services in Watertown. She enjoyed sewing, working in her flower gardens, reading, crossword puzzles, drawing, painting, & other crafts./ppA marriage to Stanley Hutton from 1942-1957 ended in divorce. a marriage to Peter G. Sacchetti from 1958-1988 ended when Mr. Sacchetti passed away./ppShe is survived by her children, Norris Thomas Hutton of Watertown, Gloria Lydia Longamore of Black River, Monica Laurel and Paul Boudreau of Eastford, CT, Joseph Peter Sacchetti of Watertown; a step-daughter, Nancy Lee Perkins of Florida; her siblings, Elsie Mae, Elizabeth Joanne, Doris Louise; 2 son-in-laws, James Perkins & Frederick Longamore; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews./ppBesides her husband, Peter, Charmaine is predeceased by 2 granddaughters, Amy Boudreau, Shanna Sacchetti; a great-granddaughter, Alexandria L. Kirch, 82, of the Number Four Rd., Lowville, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, in the emergency room of Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, where he was taken after being stricken at home. /ppHe was born on January 3, 1934 in Dexter, the son of Lawrence and Lenore (Hilts) Kirch. A lifelong resident of the area, he attended the one room school house in Belfort./ppOn June 28, 1958 he married Carol Lortie. After a brief time in Dexter, they settled in Watertown and started their loving family of five children./ppBernard worked in numerous jobs, and eventually began an approximate 40-year career in the paper industry, retiring from the Brownville Specialty Paper Company in 1996./ppAs a gifted wood worker and craftsman, Bernard especially took pride in the construction of the log cabin that he personally built as their home after he retired in 1996. He also loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed the outdoors. Hampson and his family moved to the Gouverneur area in 1973 to start a dairy business. Drew, 102, formerly of Massena, peacefully passed away early Saturday morning, April 9, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Home, in Ogdensburg./ppMargaret was born November 14, 1913 in Potsdam, daughter of the late Charles and Isabel Bix Andrus. She attended Carthage Schools, and was employed as a presser at Potsdam Laundry and Massena Laundry until retiring in 1976. She married Melvin J. Drew on April 10, 1946 at the Methodist Church in Potsdam with Rev. Roy officiating. Melvin predeceased her on September 5, 1977./ppShe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton. Margaret was an avid reader and enjoyed embroidery sitting on her porch. She enjoyed traveling and lived in Arizona for a while. She loved her cats and dogs./ppMargaret is survived by several nieces and nephews, including her caregiver, Carter Houk of Canton./ppBesides her husband and parents, Margaret was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Esseltine; Geraldine Searles; and Irene McDonald; and her brother, William Andrus./ppAs per Margaret’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. White on October 12, 1968 at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit with the Reverend Robert M. Hoag officiating. She left her social work position with Lackawanna County prior to the joyful adoption of their daughter, Valerie in September 1971. She and Joseph relocated to St. Lawrence County in June 2003 in order to be close to their daughter. /ppRoberta loved to knit, travel, and grow flowers. pLyons Falls – Ronald L. Farr, 75, longtime resident of Rumble Road, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 21, 2016. /ppRonald was born on September 6, 1940 in Lowville a son of Lewis and Anna Congdon Farr. A lifelong resident of the Town of Lyonsdale, he attended rural schools before completing his education at the Greig Schoolhouse. On February 3, 1961 he was united in marriage with Nancy S. Van Buskirk at the Boonville United Methodist Church. Following their marriage the couple settled on the Rumble Road./ppFor a time Ronald was employed at Chicago Pneumatic, Utica, before he began the fulltime operation of his sawmill business. Ronald was an avid outdoorsman, deer hunter and fisherman. Together with his wife they enjoyed the operation of a deer and fox farm, known as Twin Ponds Deer Farm, which they operated at their residence. Mrs. Farr, a retiree of A.M. F. Co. Lowville, passed away on July 14, 2010./ppRonald is survived by his three sons: Robert Farr and Donna Finster, and Forest and Michelle Farr, both of Lyons Falls, and Ronald Farr, Mississippi, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a sister Janet Bourgeois, Boonville. He was predeceased by his grandson, David Finster, in 2003, and by his brothers Richard and Guy./ppFuneral Services will be held on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
