Marjorie E. Farr

pHailesboro - Marjorie E. Farr, 85, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley./ppA funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 26th at 11:00 am at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev Beth Benham, pastor of the Gouverneur First United Methodist Church officiating and burial in Hailesboro Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm./ppMarjorie was born on September 30, 1930 in Pitcairn, the daughter of Arnold W. and Agnes Guinup Hubbard./ppMarjorie married Roger G. Farr on August 29, 1948 at her parents’ home in Hailesboro with Rev. Ward H. Crawford officiating./ppThe couple resided on Dublin Avenue since 1960. Mr. Farr, a retired employee of St. Joe Mineral Co, passed away May 17, 2004./ppMarjorie was very active in local events and activities. She was a member of the Gouverneur Una Rebekah Lodge and a past secretary/treasurer, the Gouverneur VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she was awarded member of the year in 2004, and the Black River Valley Fiddlers. Marjorie was also past secretary/treasurer of the Hickory Lake Association, the St. Lawrence Gas and Steam Engine Association in Canton, the Flywheels and Pulleys Club of Constableville, and past president of the Fowler PTA. She was a member of the Oxbow Historical Association, the Home Bureau, Hands and Hearts, and was recently honored by the Town of Fowler for her commitment to community service./ppMarjorie’s true love was the care of the local children and the young of many local families. She provided childcare for many parents for over 50 years./ppShe was deeply interested in the history of the area and has an extensive scrapbook collection detailing the stories of the local mines. The couple enjoyed the adventures in their RV, dancing, and spending time on the water at Hickory Lake. Marjorie was known for her cake decorating skills and donated dozens and dozens of doughnuts to the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs for their stands at the St. Lawrence County Fair./ppShe is survived by her daughter Annette C. Meade of Hailesboro, William A. Farr of Gouverneur, Tommie G. and Judith Farr of Mexico, Roger Jr. and Donna Farr of Richville, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a brother Robert Hubbard of Pennsylvania, nieces and nephews. Isaiah L. Serviss

pGouverneur - Isaiah L. “Ike” Serviss, 72, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016 in Florida./ppA celebration of life will be held Sunday January 31st starting at 12:00 noon and a luncheon to be served at 1:00 pm at the Gouverneur VFW./ppIsaiah was born December 20, 1943 in Gouverneur, the son of Isaiah and Laura Mae Liscum Serviss./ppHe graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1962 and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy in which he served from 1962 until 1966. He served overseas in Vietnam in the Seabees and was a recipient of a Purple Heart medal./ppIke married Roxanne Prashaw on October 15, 1962./ppUpon his honorable discharge from the service, Ike was employed at CIVES Steel in the maintenance department and eventually became a supervisor. He worked at Viking CIVES in Harrisville as a plant manager and more recently served as superintendant of building and grounds for Gouverneur Central School district, retiring in July 2010./ppIke was a life member of the Gouverneur Rod & Gun Club and was past president of the Marble City Muzzleloaders. He served on the Gouverneur Central School Board of Education, Gouverneur Village Board, St. Lawrence County Fair Board, was a member of the Hook & Ladder Company of the Gouverneur Vol. Fire Department and the Exempts of the department./ppHe enjoyed the outdoors, where he could be found hunting in the woods, fishing on the lakes and rivers, or weeding in the garden. Ike also was known for his cooking talents, liked playing cards with the boys, spending winters in Florida, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his grandkids./ppIke is survived by his wife Roxanne, his children Martin and Catherine Serviss, Stephen Serviss, Natalie and Steven Young, Laura Mae Serviss, Suzanne and Darren Isereau, his grandkids Julia, Martin Jr., Stephen, and Staci Serviss, Isaiah Young, Daniel, Leesa, and Ryan Isereau, great grandkids Toni, Kori, and William, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his siblings George Serviss, Curt Serviss, Laura Slate, and Virginia Cummings./p

Anthony Zach

pAnthony “Andy” Zach, 89, of Clayton passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday morning, January 23, 2016./ppCalling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Tuesday, January 26, from 4 - 7PM. A prayer service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 27, at 10:15AM followed by the funeral mass celebrated at St. Mary’s Church at 11AM with Rev. Vincent T. Freeh, MSC officiating. The burial will be in the spring in Clayton Cemetery . /ppAndy was born in Theresa on December 21, 1926, son of Henry and Johanna Ritter Zach and he graduated from LaFargeville High School in 1944. He worked on the family farm in LaFargeville and then as a truck driver for Smith Transport until 1951. He then entered the US Army, serving with the 59th Engineering Construction Co. He was honorably discharged, in Alaska , as a Staff Sergeant in 1953. After his discharge he worked for a construction company in Alaska ./ppOn July 22, 1952 he married Pauline Norton in Brownville. Mrs. Zach passed on July 4, 2011. /ppIn 1954 he moved to Clayton where he operated a service station, which sold and serviced small engines and sold foreign sport cars. From 1965 until his retirement in 1991 he was a mobile tool distributor, first for MAC Tools and later for MATCO Tools. After his retirement he was a real estate salesman./ppFor all of his life, Andy had a love of family and community. He was a charter member of the Clayton Lions Club where he served as president from 1961 - 1962 and as secretary from 1992 - 2007. He also served as cabinet secretary-treasurer for district 20W for the 1996 - 1997 year. In 1996 he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship by the Club and in 1998 he received an award from the Lions 20W district. He served as president of the Clayton Chamber of Commerce from 1957 - 1958 and was a member of both the Clayton Hockey Hall of Fame and American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821. Andy was one of the founders of Thousand Island Go-Kart Club in Clayton, had served as its president, and was a New York State karting champion in his class./ppAndy enjoyed reading, history, working on small engines and after his retirement, golf. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Antique Boat Museum and for the Village of Clayton with their walking tours. He was a driver for Jefferson County Volunteer Transport and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church./ppHe is survived by his four children and their spouses, his twin daughters Tonia Z. and James H. Thirtle and Marcia J. Zach and husband, Michael E. Tomb, all of Rochester, Amy Z. and Stephen J. Turcotte, Clayton and Kyle A. and Vicki M. Zach, Rochester; three grandchildren, Matthew S. Turcotte, Nolan A. Zach, and Nadia M. Zach; his brother and his wife, Frederick W. and Jean Zach, Kenniwich, WA; one niece, two nephews, and cousins. Frederic R. Sawyer

pWATERTOWN- Frederic Raymond Sawyer, 78, passed away on Friday January 22, 2016, at Samaritan Summit Village. He had been in failing health for the past few years. /ppArrangements have been entrusted with Cleveland Funeral Home. /ppBorn in Watertown on August 8, 1937, Fred was the first-born son of prominent dairy family, Raymond and Effie Brown Sawyer of Burrville. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1955, and attended Cornell University. In 1956, Fred entered the U.S. Army Reserves, serving at Fort Knox in Kentucky and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He continued reserve training for two weeks in the summer and one night a week for the next six years./ppIn 1969, Fred bought one of his father’s farms in Burrville and became active in many farm related activities as a member of the Farm Bureau and Holstein Friesian Club Association. He was never married. /ppFred was a member of the Burrville Congregational Church./ppFred is survived by his brother, Donald H. (Kayrena) Sawyer of Burrville and his sister, Nancy R. (Ronald) Stay of Rochester; his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. /ppBurial will be at the convenience of the family at the Brookside Cemetery. Freda Menard Gladle

pFreda Menard Gladle of 1810 Ford Street, Ogdensburg, NY, passed away on January 24, 2016 at approximately 7:45AM, where she was staying at the Vermont Respite House in Williston, Vermont./ppShe was welcomed into this world in Ogdensburg on October 10, 1934 by parents Emmett and Lila Bresett Menard and brother Charles. She is survived by daughters Karen Gladle (Ogdensburg,) Andrea Dority and husband Gary (North Carolina;) grandchildren Nathan Gladle (Ogdensburg,) Jacob Friot (North Carolina,) Sammantha Kelley (North Carolina;) and great grandchildren Cole and Riley Kelley (North Carolina.) She is predeceased by her parents, brother Charles, nephews David and Donald Menard, stepfather Jodie Van Cleave, and husband Myron Gladle Jr./ppFreda attended local schools, and took classes at SUNY Canton and Mater Dei College. She retired 1990 from St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg. She often volunteered in community programs. For thirteen years she was elected chairman of the advisory board for the Ogdensburg Neighborhood Center. /ppFreda was a well known international medium, clairvoyant, psychic and energetic healer, author, and teacher of metaphysics. In 1978 she was credentialed and registered as a Reverend in the Spiritual Advisory Council and Church. In 1993 she opened up the North Country to the metaphysical world, teaching and sharing her experiences and abilities through a group that met monthly in Canton, and continues now in Massena. She was founder and editor of Metaphysically Speaking Newsletter./ppFreda taught that “We do not die. Life continues in a different dimension. She will be waiting others’ return, to assist with their transition to the Spirit World, until we meet again, and we shall.”/ppFreda donated her body to the University of Vermont Medical Center. A service will be held at a later time, at the Spiritualist Church in Malone, NY. Rita C. (LeGault) (Murray) Murdock

pRita Claire (LeGault) (Murray) Murdock was taken by God at age 93 at her home on 1/22/2016 in New Smyrna Beach, FL after a lengthy illness. She was born August 16, 1922 to Archie and Alma LeGault in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY. She married Christopher James Murray at Sacred Heart Church in Watertown on October 5, 1940. They had 3 children, Gail Patricia, Kathryn Theresa and Christopher James. Chris died on July 17, 1961./ppIn July 1963 she married Francis Russell Murdock of Schroon Lake, NY. They moved to NSB, FL in 1997. She was predeceased by her 1st husband, Chris, 2nd husband, Francis, son Christopher Murray, SIL Jeffrey Beynon, and two grandsons. She is survived by; daughters, Gail Murray Beynon; Kathryn Murray Belles (Arthur); DIL, Lutfiya Murray and stepson, Bruce Murdock. It was Rita’s request to be cremated and no formal services held. Norma K. Miller

pLOWVILLE - Norma K. Miller, 87, formerly of Watson, died Sunday afternoon, January 24, 2016 at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility with her family at her side./ppShe was born June 10, 1928 in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Jacob P. and Delia M. (Bloodgood) Kratz. Norma graduated from Oswego State University with Bachelors in Education in 1949. Norma was united in marriage with Carl G. Miller on March 7, 1953 at Mt. Taber Lutheran Church in Syracuse. Carl Miller died on February 23, 1997. /ppMrs. Miller taught school first in Gloversville and then in Liverpool when the couple moved to Watson in 1962. Norma and Carl bought Henry and Alice Saunders General Store in 1962, which became Miller’s Meat Market. She was active in the business making her own salads, donuts, and started a bakery. They sold the store to their son Daniel in 1978. She returned to teaching for her church at the Bible Baptist Christian School./ppShe is survived by six children and their spouses, Daniel and Charlene of Watson; Elaine and Rodney Cannan of Glenfield; Joan and John Bruno of Pittsburgh, PA; Stephen and Nok of Gig Harbor, WA; Anne and Randy Newell of Glenfield; Janiece and Brian Paap of Warrenton, VA; 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, her brother David Kratz of Syracuse. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Carol Baldwin and Dorine Watson./ppThe funeral will be on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Naumburg Mennonite Church, with Rev. Her family encourages all to wear something purple, Bonnie’s favorite color./ppBonnie was born on April 18, 1966 in Gouverneur to Cynthia (Boney) Fuller and the late James “Fuzz” Fuller. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1984. Upon graduation, she and 10 other girls of the Thousand Islands Girl Scout council toured Europe. /ppBonnie married Floyd D. Moore. They had been together for over 20 years. They enjoyed making maple syrup together with the Moore family. Bonnie was a happy person who loved animals, helping other people and was a caregiver to many. She often thought of others before she thought of herself, especially her mother, Cindy, her grandmother, Elaine and her mother-in-law, Bev. She enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, collecting coins and working on crossword and word search puzzles. She has been a member of the Girl Scouts for 40 years and is a former Troop Leader. She was also a member of TOPS in Fowler and was a Minnesota Vikings fan./ppBonnie had been a clerk for Kinney Drugs, a cashier for the former P&C, bartended at The Meadows in Fowler, and was employed by OWD Plastics in Tupper Lake./ppHer survivors include her husband, Floyd Moore; her mother, Cynthia Fuller; maternal grandmother, Elaine Boney; son, Cory Fuller; daughter, Christy Fuller and her fiancé, Ryan Trombly; step-son, Paul Weigand; and her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and William Finnie and nephew, Brandon. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Zachary Fuller, Hollie Trombly, and has one more grandchild, Logan, on the way. Her family meant everything to her, especially her grandchildren. They brought an abundance of joy to her life. She was a pillar of strength for many. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. /ppBonnie is predeceased by her father, James “Fuzz” Fuller on January 18, 2016 six days prior to Bonnie’s death. Her father-in-law Floyd C. Ronald G. Quencer

pAdams- Ronald G. Quencer, Tyler Texas, formally of Adams, New York went to heaven to be with the Lord on January 20, 2016. /ppThe funeral will be held at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home in Belleville, New York, Saturday, January 30th at 11 am with Matt Forrester officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Friday, January 29th from 2-4 and 7-9./ppRon was born on June 16, 1958 in Watertown, New York the son of Kathryn (Quencer) Dobbin and the late Gerald R. Quencer./ppRon graduated from South Jefferson Center School in Adams, after graduation he joined the Air Force and while stationed in Plattsburg Air Force Base, he graduated from Clinton Community College. Ron retired from the Air Force in 1986, he then worked for Jones Motor Express and was a trainer for J.B. Hunt while in Texas. It was also in Texas that he met the love of his life Lesa Zimmerman McCarrell, they were married on February 14, 1993. Ron and Lesa started Elite Appraisal Service. Ron and his family moved back to Adams to help his step-father Gordon Dobbin with the wrecker service, returning to Tyler after three years. /ppRon enjoyed living life, especially in the fast lane, including hobbies in dirt track racing, snowmobiling, motorcycles, and the Civil Air Patrol. /ppHe is survived by his loving wife of almost 23 years, Lesa; daughters, Shelby Quencer, Tyler, and Carmen Flowers ,Possum Kingdom Lake; mother, Kathryn Quencer Dobbin, Adams; 2 granddaughter, Emily Miles, Brooklyn Smith; 3 grandsons, Collin Miles, Brandon Geer and Zachary Graham-Flowers; a brother Robert J. (Pam) Quencer, Ocala, Florida; sister, Barbara (Alan) Ayotte, Cogan Station, Pa.; 2 nephews, Robert and Jordan Rendell; stepmother, Diane Quencer; 4 stepsisters, Dorene Dobbins, Robin Alvarez, Tammy Austin and Terry Wheeler; stepbrother, Ricky Haven. Vernon H. Peck

pCHAMPION – Vernon H. Peck, 92, formerly of 31920 NYS Route 126, died Tuesday morning, January 26, 2016 at the Lewis County Residential Care Facility, where he had been a resident for a short time./ppBorn at Lake Bonaparte on November 25, 1923, the son of Vernon Peck, Sr. & Bessie Sampson Peck, he attended the former West Carthage High School. He married Harriet Healy on August 23, 1948 at the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. Mrs. Peck died on December 24, 2015; he didn’t want to be away from his wife of 68 years and now joins her in heaven. Verne served overseas in the United States Army during World War II. He was with the 15th Infantry Division, 3rd Recon and later with BTRY A 216th, an anti-aircraft battalion. Mr. Peck worked as a truck driver, who was employed by Northern Haulers and various local companies./ppHe was a member of the Teamsters Union, the Copenhagen Fire Department and Drill Team, the Black River American Legion, the Disabled Veterans Organization, the VFW in Lowville and was an avid hunter and fisherman./ppHe is survived by his children; Mike Peck, Carthage, Linda LaClair, Carthage, Sally Green, Black River, Tom Peck, Copenhagen, Randy Peck and his wife, Sandy, Copenhagen and Ron Peck and his wife, Jo Ann, Champion. /ppAlso surviving are his brother and his wife, Dave and Joy Peck, his nephews; Sherrie, Gary and Ronnie Perkins, his grandchildren; Eric, Christy, Dean, Charrie, Lynsey, Tyler, Phillip, Dana, Cade, Andy, Amanda, Andrea, Maria, RJ, along with her great-grandchildren Herbie, Devlyn, and Caleb and her great-great-grandchildren./ppHe is predeceased by his wife, Harriet, a son, Tim Peck and his siblings; Jane Richardson, Paul Peck, Evelyn Perkins and Dorothy Huntley./ppThere will be no public funeral service or visitation. She graduated from the Clifton-Fine Central School in 1964 and married Lawrence David Riley on August 2, 1969. Mr. Riley passed away on March 26, 1999./ppBelva loved animals, especially her cats. pJune E. Huttemann, Watertown, passed away at her home she had lived in for 93 years Sunday, January 24th surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County. She was 96 years old./ppBorn in Watertown June 29, 1919 June was a daughter to Henry and Ethel Reid Bisnett. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1936 where she was a member of the basketball team, tumbling team, and track team specializing in the broad & high jump. /ppOn March 26, 1938 June married Thomas J. Huttemann in Belleville, Reverend Miles Hutchinson officiating. Mr. Huttemann passed away May 9, 2002./ppAs a young women, June worked at Spies Manufacturing and the Agricultural Insurance Company in Watertown. In her later years June took care of her family. She enjoyed spending summers at Knobby Knoll in Sackets Harbor, holiday dinners with her family, and spending time with her children & grandchildren and great grandchildren./ppFor 75 years, June sent birthday and anniversary cards to her entire family, never missing an occasion./ppJune is survived by her daughter, Carol R. Schofield of Watertown; her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J. “Skip” and Sharon Huttemann of Outer Banks, NC; 7 grandchildren, Mary Jo Schofield, Todd Schofield, Kevin & wife Lynn Schofield, Eric & wife Sonya Schofield, Aaron & wife Sarah Schofield, Greg & wife Jill Grant, Keith & wife Corey Grant; 14 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Jordan, Kevin, Andrew, Olivia, Michael, Tommy, Tabiana, Ethan, Tori, Jacob, Francesca, Leah, and Cole; a son-in-law, Jon Grant; 3 nephews, Pete Outwater, Rick Outwater, Dallas Bisnett; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed spending time with her extended family & friends. Howard Maxson, pastor of the Fowler Baptist Church, officiating and a Masonic Lodge service will follow. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Edwards and calling hours will be held prior to the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm./ppKenneth was born in Gouverneur on November 2, 1931, the son of Lyle and Edna Meldrim./ppHe graduated from Edwards Central School in 1948 and from Canton A.T.I. in 1950./ppIn 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy in which he served until 1955, including time served on a submarine./ppKen married Dolores Young on May 12, 1956 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church parsonage./ppDolores passed away on January 12, 2006./ppKen worked with his father Lyle for a number of years at Hughes Garage in Edwards and was employed as a rural letter carrier for 26 years, retiring in 1989./ppHe was a member of the Wildwood Masonic Lodge #477 for over 50 years, past member and chief of the Edwards Vol. Fire Department, past member and president of the Edwards Central School board of education, and member of the NYS Rural Letter Carriers Association./ppKen enjoyed hunting, reading, working and restoring his Willys Jeep./ppKen is survived by his 5 children Gary and Rushteen Hughes of Gouverneur, Patrick and Patricia Hughes of Pennsylvania, Kendra and Randy Pitts of Indiana, Ellen and Roger Bacon of Gouverneur, Lura Hughes of Edwards, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
