Robert R. Belknap

pMassena: Robert R. Belknap, 75, of Massena peacefully passed away on September 10, 2016 at Massena Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. There will be no public calling hours. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held on October 15, 2016 at the Italian American Club, Beach Street, Massena from 12:00, noon until 6:00 pm./ppRobert was born on April 13, 1941 in Syracuse, NY, the son of the late Robert and Mary (Briggs) Belknap. He attended schools in the Central Square, Brewerton area. Robert joined the Marines where he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC and was honorably discharged after four years. Upon returning home from the service, Robert went to work at Alcoa in the Pot Rooms, retiring in 1990 after working over 26 years. He married Darla Rupert on October 31, 1964 in Massena, NY. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying the time he spent with his cousin on Croil Island. He also loved watching NASCAR and following his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. /ppRobert is survived by his children, Thomas and wife Nancy Belknap of Rochester, Robert and wife Tracy Belknap of Winthrop, NY, Richard and wife Lori Belknap of Auburn, NY and June Drake of Massena; grandchildren, Brianna (Matthew) Bowers, Jessica (Chris) Jones, David Belknap, Jacqueline and Erin Drake, Tia Andrews and Andrew Belknap; great-grandchildren, Lucy and Eleanor Bowers, Alexander and Owen Rush, Harper Jones and Natalya Newton; a sister, Sue and husband John Porter of Ogdensburg; several cousins and a nephew./ppBesides his parents, Robert is predeceased by his wife Darla, who passed in 2014./ppMemorial contributions in Robert’s memory can be made to the Marine Corps League, 166 Maple Street, Massena, NY 136 62. Brown, 83, formerly of Cape Vincent, N.Y., passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, N.Y. /ppCalling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service in Watertown on Thursday, September 15, from 6:00-8:00pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 16, at 11:00am with Msgr. Robert Aucoin presiding. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Vincent of Paul Cemetery in Cape Vincent, N.Y. /ppJim was born in Allegany, NY, on July 28, 1933, the son of Walter L. and Marguerite Brunner Brown. He graduated from Olean High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma Engineering School./ppOn May 11, 1953, Jim entered the US Army. He received the Korean Service Medal, the Good Conduct, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service medal. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on May 12, 1955./ppOn September 8, 1962, Jim married Doris A. Votra at the St. Vincent of Paul Church in Cape Vincent, N.Y./ppAs an engineer, Jim worked for Eastman Kodak Company, American Standard, and Xerox. He also owned and operated The Company Store in Cape Vincent, N.Y., during the summer tourist season. /ppJim was a communicant in mass celebrations and sang in the choirs at both St. Vincent Of Paul Church in Cape Vincent and of St. Mary’s Church in Clayton. He was also a member of the Colon-Couch American Legion Post 821 in Clayton. Jim enjoyed reading books on history, took great pleasure in nature, and had a beautiful and wonderful singing voice. The couple had lived in Warsaw, N.Y. for a number of years, but then returned to Cape Vincent in the late 1970’s./ppBesides his wife, Doris, Jim is survived by his four children and their spouses, James R. and Donna Brown, Towanda, PA, Joseph A. and Meg Brown, Camillus, NY, Marybeth and Trevor Famulare, Shippensburg, PA, and Janine and Donald Johnson, Watertown; eight grandchildren; brother, Walter L. and sister in law Nancy Brown, Stanley, NY; sister, Patricia McGuirl, New Bern, NC; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Field at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and he passed on January 26, 1986. She then married Henry E. Herrick in Norfolk, VA on November 12, 2005 and he died June 12, 2009./ppShe worked as a secretary for Wm. T. Field Assoc. and then for Attorney Donald Palmer. She was a teacher’s assistant for BOCES. Doris was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and a member of its Altar & Rosary Society. She enjoyed volunteering for the USO, reading, and sewing. She was a Parent Representative for BOCES Exceptional Program./ppDoris is survived by her two children, Brian P. Field, St. Louis, MO and Kelly M. O’Brien and husband, Tim, Venice, FL; four grandchildren, Morgan, Logan, Kallyn, and Hollyn O’Brien; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. pVernon F. Taylor, 87, formerly of Watertown, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2016 at his home in Hamburg, NY, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice./ppMr. Taylor was one of ten children born to the late Ambrose W. Taylor and Mary Ward Taylor on October 13, 1928. He attended Watertown schools, later joining the Air Force and was stationed in Germany, Alaska and Alabama. Upon his discharge, he joined the Watertown Police Force. On March 2nd, 1957, Vernon was married to Alice M Blair. They were married for 59 years./ppHe then worked for Roy Seeber Roofing until he and his brother Jim established Taylor Brothers Painting and Sandblasting, often joined by brother Tom. He later started his own business, Vern Taylor Painting. Throughout his life he donated his time and talent to various church and community projects. In 1974 he and his brothers received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Paul VI for their work done on St. Patrick’s Church. /ppMr. Taylor and his wife began their journey in the Watertown area. In 2007 they moved to Jonestown, PA where they resided until this past June when they moved to Hamburg, NY to be closer to their children. They were both communicants of Holy Family Church and, more recently, of St. Francis Church in Hamburg, NY./ppVernon was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club. He loved riding motorcycles and racing stock cars in his younger years. He was a dedicated golfer and bowler, playing on area leagues. His personality was full of life. He and his brothers often provided skits and musical entertainment for the older residents of area high rises, under their mother’s direction. Vernon was well known to break into an Elvis Presley or John Wayne impersonation to the delight of all who knew him. He enjoyed singing so much, he’d entertain students at a local school./ppHis last years were filled with fun and laughter with his beloved grandchildren. He left his loved ones with his uncompromising faith in God and fierce love of family, and his ability to laugh through the toughest of times. For this his family will be forever grateful./ppHe is survived (and greatly missed) by his wife and six children, Sheela Marie and her companion Timothy Canaan of Watertown, Leigh Ann (Robert) Lawrence and Kelly Cook of Oldsmar, FL, Greg Taylor of Jonestown, PA, Julia Santoro of Hamburg, NY and Michelle Lammers of Fairbanks, AK. He was blessed with 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 dogs, Missy and Jordan, who enriched his later years./ppAlso surviving him are sisters Olga M. Sennett of Watertown, Margaret A. Sexton of Palm Harbor, FL and Katherine Doe Johnson and husband Donald of Watertown, a brother James P, Taylor of Palm Harbor FL, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Harvey A., John F., William A. and Thomas L. pMADRID – Mr. Alfred A. White, 86, passed away at home on Saturday, September 10, 2016, surrounded by his loving family./ppAlfred was born on April 10, 1930 in Bombay, the son of the late Arthur and Stella (Goodman) White. On May 6, 1950, Alfred was united in marriage with Charlotte Rookey. Charlotte passed away on December 1, 2013./ppAlfred is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Darlene White and two daughters, Rita and Connie White, also AC, his four-legged companion, all of Madrid; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Art, Milton, and Larry and four sisters, Estella, Joyce, Gloria, and Beverly./ppHe was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, George and Victor and one sister, Ella./ppAlfred worked for Watson’s Chevrolet in Madrid for 38 years. He was also a life member, as well as a Past Chief of the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid New York Yankees Baseball fan. /ppGraveside services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Madrid Cemetery. He graduated from Rome Central School for the Deaf. He was married to Navella L. VanDuser on Oct. 13, 1956 in St. Peter’s Church in Rome. They lived in Sandy Creek for over 50 years. He was a retired typesetter from Holstein Fresian World and Corse Press in Sandy Creek. Roberts, age 63, passed away peacefully, September 6th, at his home at 114 Kieff Drive, Watertown surrounded by his loving family and friends./ppHe was born, June 17, 1953, in Watertown, a son of the late Frederick W. and Geraldine C. Bigelow Roberts. Gary was a member of the Watertown High School Class of 1972. Following graduation he joined the United States Air Force serving from 1973 to 1974 as an Air Conditioning Mechanic at which time he received an honorable discharge and returned to Watertown to care for his mother whose health was failing. /ppGary moved to Ohio and took employment at MTD as a Die Casting Operator where he remained employed until he became disabled in 1996./ppHe married Jeanne Scyoc in 1994. The marriage ended in divorce in 2002. They have two children, Gary F. Jr. of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Katherine (Katye) Roberts of Claremont, New Hampshire; plus 3 grandchildren./ppGary enjoyed playing softball, bowling and spending time with his family. He also loved the songs “Proud to be an American” and “Spirit in the Sky” which he played every day. A Graveside service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Bixby Cemetery in Norfolk. Nancy passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at her home. She is survived by her companion, David Tessier, Norfolk; two sons, Jason Woodward and Gina Berry, Massena; Christopher Murcray, Norfolk; her two grandchildren, Jayden and Riley Woodward; a brother, Stephen and Debra Gravlin, Madrid; her sister, Tracy LaShomb, Massena as well as several nieces and nephews. Nancy was pre-deceased by her brothers James, Raymond “Butch” and Thomas Gravlin./pp Born in Potsdam on October 4, 1958 to the late Raymond and Francis Dunn Gravlin, Nancy worked at the Massena Memorial Hospital in the Housekeeping Department for 20 years, retiring in 2010. She loved Tigers, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and traveling to Florida to see family as well. Nancy was more concerned with helping others than caring for herself. pCassondra Lynn James, June 8, 1967- September 11, 2016./ppCassondra Lynn James (Mangan) of Champion, New York, went to be with her Lord September 11, 2016 surrounded by her family. She had a fought and very courageous fight with Multiple Myeloma for two years and passed away from the complications of the disease. /ppShe will be dearly missed by her husband of 29 years, Fr. Thomas James, her children, Isaac, Alice, Philip, Jenni, Christian, Thomas, Eben, and Noah all of Champion, New York. Priscilla Mulligan (James) and her husband, Nicholas Mulligan, their children, Sean and Isabelle Lynn. Also her siblings, Denessa Glassford, twin brother, Charles Mangan, Alissa Mulligan, Micah Mangan, and David Mangan; all of their spouses and 90 nieces and nephews. Also two aunts, Sr. Sandra Voight and Sr. Michelle LaGesse./ppCassondra was a beautiful wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandma, and teacher. She lived a very full and busy life: marrying her husband Thomas in Marshfield, Vermont, where they were blessed with six children. She followed her husband to New York when he was called by God to become a priest in the Anglican Catholic Church. In New York they were blessed with three more children and she was very instrumental in helping her husband plant Christ Anglican Church in Carthage, New York. /ppCassondra gave her life freely to her children as a stay-at-home mother and also to the church as a priest’s wife. She raised her children to love and serve the Lord. She loved the simple life that she lived with her family as well as raising them and baking their food. /ppShe enjoyed playing board games and cards, going for walks, bicycle riding, swimming and traveling together and also tending to her vegetable and flower gardens before she became ill./ppAs a priest’s wife, she made many beautiful vestments and banners, started a summer bake sale, pancake breakfast, taught Sunday School, volunteered with the local village ecumenical ministries’ “Angel Tree” program during Christmas time, and made many beautiful gifts for her church family./ppDuring Cassondra’s illness, she always strove to press on to live her life even through her pain and exhaustion. She spent many hours praying for others on her prayer list and always had a smile ready. She was a witness to all of God’s love and made many new friends. She very much appreciated the staff of SUNY Upstate Cancer and Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. /ppA mass and burial service will be held at Christ Church, 167 Creamery Street Marshfield, Vermont 05658 on September 17, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with viewing starting at 9:30 A.M. /pp“Who can find a virtuous woman? Harold passed away on January 26, 2011. She worked at the Harlem Valley State Hospital and the Binghamton State Hospital as a staff attendant.
